OVERVIEW OFMONTHLY ACTIVITIES,EVENTS,ENGAGEMENTS

ENTITY SPOTLIGHT-BLACK STUDENTCOMMISSION

Office of Opportunities and Involvement OOI’swork this year focused on engaging withstudents and bringing them into the ASUW.They work hard to create new opportunities forstudents to get involved. OOI also partnered forthe first time with the ASUW Shell House tohost their volunteer retreat which they hope tomake an annual event that helps connectvolunteers with each other and provideprofessional development training andresources.

This month BSC will be runningBlack History Month programming,Evolve! During Evolve, the goal is tospotlight events by both thecommission and constituentorganizations that celebrate, educate, and take a look atblackness on the UW campus, thelarger Seattle community, and eventhe world. Some of the events thisyear are discussions around Blackincarceration, Black feminism, organizations celebrating 50 yearson campus, and ending the monthoff with a collaboration with RainyDawg Radio to celebrate Blackmusic. Evolve is a time for Blackstudents and allies to come togetherand learn more about the Blackexperience and how they cansupport and grow it beyond justBlack History Month.

Innovation Fund  As a result of circumstancesthat presented themselves this year, the ASUWwas able to establish an “Innovation Fund” forentities and employees to apply to as a way tofund new, creative programs that reach out tostudents not already involved or familiar withASUW. We are excited to use this fund topromote the ASUW as a resource andcommunity for students on campus throughinnovative outreach and involvement ideas.

FALL QUARTEROVERVIEW

Throughout Fall Quarter we are super proud ofour entities and the events that they have heldfor our student body. A+E had a wildlysuccessful Fall Fling regardless of the rain andbrought in some super cool performers likeCoin and Omar Apollo. Students were able toenjoy the campus and spend time with friendsbefore school started!

The Womxn’s Action Commission and RainyDawg Radio had their first collaborative show. This show was held on campus in Parnassuscafe and it highlighted three amazing womxnartists, a lot of whom were from our area. Thewhole space was packed with students and wehope to see this collaboration continue!

Additionally, during fall quarter we passed thelegislative agenda through Student Senateand our Board. A few weeks later, the Office ofGovernment Relations had their largestlegislative reception ever! They did an amazingjob discussing our legislative agenda withstudents and senators and giving students theability to discuss issues on the agenda thatthey supported.

Lastly, our Board of Directors have been hardat work chairing different task forces, workingon campus outreach campaigns, working ondifferent advisory boards on campus, andincreasing ASUW visibility on campus. Overall,we are really proud of all the hard work ourASUW directors, employees and volunteershave been putting into providing spaces, events, and services for our students oncampus!
