OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As Catholics in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis under the patronage of

Saint Joseph, in communion with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and

Archbishop Carlson, we are called by our Lord Jesus Christ to be His

Church and live His Gospel. With joy, we strive to fulfill our Baptismal

calling by fervent prayer and worship, sound teaching and sharing our

faith, serving others and fostering unity in diversity. Guided by the Holy

Spirit, we commit ourselves to be responsible stewards of all God's

gifts.

If you have been inactive in the practice of your Catholic Faith, we

encourage you to come home. If you would like to speak with someone

please do not hesitate to contact us.

If a previous marriage has kept you from receiving the Sacraments, we

invite you to contact one of the priests. In many cases we can work with

you toward a favorable solution so you can again receive the

Sacraments in the Catholic Church.

From the Pastor

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thank you all for your commitment to St. Joseph Parish. Your generosity is a sign of your deep commitment to the Church, and I am grateful for all that you have done in Christ’s name.

The gifts and pledges continue to come and I'm delighted, humbled, and excited by the response of so many of you to our latest big push as we meet our Challenge goal. We really just need participation; it’s all about “buy in” and participation. The goal is to get to 600 pledges/gifts by June 30. We are currently at 518 pledges/gifts. I don't care if it is only $10; your family's support of this campaign is crucial. I deeply appreciate any pledge you can make. Your support would mean a tremendous amount to the future of our parish community.

Please join us as we plan for the future. We want everyone in this parish community to be part of this most exciting project. Please know of my continued prayers for you and your family in all you do to serve those around us. Thank you for your ongoing support. God’s blessings to all of you! Fr. Shaughnessy

$One for the Children

St. Joseph School students are taking the initiative to support the parish Capital Campaign. They are asking all parish students

in PSR and those who are in the parish, to join them in “$One for the Children”, a student effort to take ownership for the

new playground.

Sister Carol introduced the idea recently as a way for the students to become involved and say “thank you” to St. Joseph

Parish. If a minimum of 500 school and parish students combined each enroll 10 donors who commit to $1 a month (or more)

for 12 months, we will raise $60,000 for the new playground. Students who reach their goal will have their names listed on a

plaque in the playground.

Parishioner Mike Price has been researching area

playgrounds and will be sharing some exciting

pictures soon. Mike is assisting Fr. Shaughnessy

in gathering information for Sr. Carol and student

committee members, Kaylie, Briana, Maria and

Erica. What a beautiful addition this playground

will be for our parish children!

If you are a student and wish to participate in

“$One for the Children,” simply submit your

name to the school office. It is important that

your name and phone number are clearly written

and submitted with your donations. Your

donations may be sent monthly or all at one time.

Print clearly so we will have your name properly

recognized for the student donor board.

Thank you. More information will be coming

soon!

A retreat at White House is the perfect opportunity to find the peace, quiet and inspiration your soul is looking for. It’s like a 3-day vacation with God! Join the women of our parish on our annual retreat from July 26 to July 29. Retreats at White House are silent, guided retreats based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Fr. Gary’s Chaplain Trip to France this Fall!! Our new Senior Associate, Fr. Gary Vollmer is leading this

trip with Golden Frontier and Paul Halfmann of our parish.

My bucket list has always included a trip to the Shrine of Our

Lady of Lourdes in France. Please help to make this wish

come true and join myself and other pilgrims for our

pilgrimage trip to France October 15-25, 2018. This eleven-

day trip includes roundtrip airfare to Paris, hotels, sightseeing,

dinners (2 lunches) and breakfasts. Major sites include the

Eiffel Tower, Arch de Triumph, Notre Dame Cathedral,

Shrine of Miraculous Medal , Little Flower Shrine, Omaha

Beach, and, most importantly, the Shrine of Our Lady of

Lourdes. I just saw on the Dynamic Catholic website that they

are offering almost exactly the same tour this August but only

9 days and almost a $1000 more. Please go to the website

at www.goldenfrontier.org for the full itinerary or see Fr.

Gary. This trip will be a belated gift for my 40th Ordination

Anniversary (May 21, 2017) and an early birthday present

(Oct. 30). Right now it looks like we are getting close to the

number we need for this trip to become a reality and not just a

dream. This is for anyone interested in a pilgrimage to sacred

shrines in France but especially Our Lady of Lourdes shrine,

so you might know of a relative or friend who might be

interested. Also, they can fly out of St. Louis, Chicago,

Indianapolis, or Kansas City. There will be another info day

about this trip on Sunday, June 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. at St.

Geraard Magella Parish in Room 224 to answer questions you

might have. Gratefully in Christ, Fr. Gary

Maximize Your Gift to St. Joseph Parish One excellent way to make a meaningful gift is with a gift of stock. As the stock market reaches one new record high after

another, a gift of stock becomes a more and more compelling choice for many donors. Here’s how it works:

You bought 10 shares of XYZ stock for $100 more than a year ago. The stock is now worth $1,200. You donate the 10 shares

of XYZ to the Faithful and Wise Steward Campaign. You then receive your charitable tax letter reflecting the value on the

day the transfer takes place ($1,200 +/-).

Therefore, you made a $1,200 gift to the campaign, with an actual cost of only $100!

Gifts of stock are often recommended by financial advisers because the donor is able to make a much more significant gift

than by simply writing a check! For more information or If you would like to make a gift of stock to St. Joseph Parish, please contact Pat Griffaw at the

Archdiocesan Finance Office at 314-792-7123. If you would like to make a gift of stock to our Capital Campaign, please

contact the Roman Catholic Foundation at 314-918-2890.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “This is how it is with

the reign of God. A man scatters seed on the

ground. He goes to bed and gets up day after

day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows

without his knowing how it happens.” Thank you

for your continued gifts to the Society of St.

Vincent de Paul. You are sowing seeds that grow

far greater than you can imagine and bring

Christ’s love and compassion to our Neighbors in

Need. Did you know that our Society of St.

Vincent de Paul can serve those in need with rent,

utilities, car repairs, a car purchase, beds,

mattresses, clothing, furniture, and so much

more? Please call our parish’s Society of St.

Sunday, June 17th 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! - Are you Humble?

Are you humble? What a tough question to answer! When

we look at our Catholic history and tradition, we see that all

the great saints were humble people who understood just

how weak and sinful they were. In response, they

continued to rely on the grace of God to overcome their

weaknesses and to make them a new creation, capable of

spreading the love and joy of Christ to others. Think about

St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, or St. Teresa of

Calcutta. Are they not some of the most humble people you

could ever imagine? This humility we are called to

involves understanding where sin remains in our lives and

seeking to overcome it. It involves walking the journey of

life with sinners and not becoming self-righteousness. It

means that we must be quick to listen and slow to anger.

How can you grow in humility to become a better witness

for the Kingdom of God? archstl.org/dynamic
