Aiming HighGiving girls a leading edge At Bromley High School we teach girls to be properly ambitious: to aspire not simply to excel but to innovate and to lead.

The education we offer is one of all round opportunity but perhaps the greatest inheritance from Bromley High’s long history has been the tradition of challenging girls to take on significant leadership roles. Fundamental to this philosophy, at the pinnacle of the school, is our Head Girls’ Team, sixth-formers who provide role models of creative, fun and dynamic female leadership which sometimes run counter to the representations of women which girls encounter in modern media.

This year, our youngest pupils can look up to Prefects who row or run at National Level, who are applying for Sports Scholarships at Princeton, Politics at Oxford, Languages at Cambridge, who dance at a professional level, who sing and play to an exceptional standard. These impressive young women are at

the heart of our school chairing the School Council; captaining sports teams; leading assemblies; organising our charitable, entrepreneurial and environmental initiatives.

Enterprising, enthusiastic and outward looking, we believe that it is not just exceptional examination results which give Bromley High girls the leading edge. Angela Drew, Headmistress, Bromley High School.

Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes are swinging across Kent!Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes are planning to open centres in three new locations in early 2015 – Chislehurst, Dartford and Tunbridge Wells.

With over 12 centres already up and running in SW and SE London and very popular centres in Sevenoaks and Bromley, Founder and Director Ali Edwards is on a mission to get kids into learning an instrument the Funky Monkey way throughout Kent.

In the classes, children between 4-8 years are taught the electronic keyboard in small groups, but crucially the unique ‘Funky Monkey’ scheme teaches children how to read and write music, giving them the skills they require not just for the keyboard but for any instrument they choose later in life. It’s a fun-packed, enjoyable and hugely educational music lesson that will set them up with an excellent grounding in music theory and keyboard skills to first grade.

To read more about us, visit www.funkymonkey.info and to register your interest use the enquiry form online or email Ali at [email protected] or call 0800 107 7949.

If you are a music teacher in the area and feel this sort of class is for you, then please also get in touch via the website – we’d love to hear from you too!

Jigsaw Performing Arts School is offering a FREE scholarship place at their Sevenoaks, Chislehurst and Bexleyheath schools for the Spring term 2015.

Classes take place at the weekend for students aged 3-18 years. A term’s scholarship is worth between £150 for 3-6 years and £280 for 7-18 years. For more details go to www.jigsaw-arts.co.uk

To be entered into the Prize Draw, simply email your name, address, telephone number and your child’s name and age to [email protected] quoting FAMILIES SCHOLARSHIP in the subject box.

20 years! Where has the time gone? Many ask how did Aquakids start and its been really interesting reliving the start of Aquakids on their website blog.

It really all began as a mums desire to want the best for her child. Lorna was unable to find lessons that catered for 3 year olds, which had the teacher in the water and were of a high quality and while moaning about this on the August bank holiday 1994 over a glass of wine and a friend said why not use my school pool and do it yourself. So a small ad in the local new shopper and word of mouth Aquakids began with Lorna teaching 4 classes over 2 hours following the ethos that still exists today; small classes, teacher in the water and a personalservice to parents - a swim school that cared. Over the years as the demand grew more classes were added, introduced gymnastics and then football, organised holiday intensive weeks which at times also involved trampoline and sport activities as well as branching out and using pools in the Sevenoaks area.

20 years on and Aquakids is still going strong with happy swimmers although sadly a long waiting list but the Intensives are an excellent way of experiencing Aquakids and view our testimonials for feedback on these weeks. The 2nd of November is their celebration day with an Anniversary Gala for the advanced swimmers followed by a sponsored swim for everybody to raise money for local special school Marjorie McClure who are also celebrating an anniversary of 40 years.

Heres to the next 20 years!!

Pilates for Breast CancerIsmini Phillips is a Pilates teacher and Pink Ribbon Program teacher offering post operative rehabilitative Pilates for breast cancer patients on a one to one and group basis. Exercise may be the last thing you feel like doing after breast cancer surgery. You’re probably exhausted, your arm may be painful and swollen, and the adjuvant treatments can make you feel even worse. All you want to do is rest and in the past, that’s exactly what the doctors recommended.

However, more and more studies indicate a link between moderate physical exercise and improved quality of life for breast cancer patients, in fact for everyone! You may recall that exercise as a form of medicine has frequented the media in recent months.

At the Ismini Phillips’ Pilates & Body Movement Studio in Chislehurst, we are dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle and positive bidy image to all breast cancer surviviors. The Pink Ribbon Program will help patients on a journey to a new lifestyle by stretching and strengthening the shoulder, chest, back and abdominal muscles, allowing them to regain full range of motion to those areas affected by breast cancer surgery. This program is suitable whether your surgery was recent or several years ago and accommodates all fitness levels. Once completing the Program we hope that you will join one of our other classes ranging from Pilates, High Intensity Interval Pilates and Booty Barre classes that are on offer.

For full details of the Pink Ribbon Program or any of our classes please email [email protected] or call her on 07711 906750 | www.isminiphillips.com

Feeling stressed? Tired all the time?  There’s something you can do...Changes in hormone levels throughout our lives - puberty, PMT, during pregnancy and the menopause, coupled with high stress levels can leave you feeling as if you need something extra to strengthen your health and reduce stress. Reflexology is a safe and gentle holistic therapy based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower legs and hands correspond to different areas of the body. Working these points during a treatment aids relaxation, improves well-being and strengthens your immune system.
