“LOVING GOD, SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS”

Phone: 419-447-6748 Email: [email protected]

May 2017

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:19b-20

“He Lives”

Still experiencing some of the joy and glow of Easter morning? I have had the words and music of Alfred H. Ackley’s hymn He Lives running through my mind since Sunday! It is one of those times it has been really hard to shut it off! But, I could certainly have worse things repeated over and over and over again in my mind! So, I pulled the hymnal out to read through it. I did that because even though the music rolls through my mind just fine, I found myself mind-mumbling some of the words I couldn’t remember!

I decided to put them in for you to read as well. My hope and prayer is that you enjoy this prayer put to music and continue to savor the good news within them!

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today; I know that He is living whatever men may say; I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, And just the time I need Him, He's always near. C

In all the world around me I see His loving care, And tho' my heart grows weary I never will despair; I know that He is leading thro' all the stormy blast, The day of His appearing will come at last. C

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King! The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find, None other is so loving, so good and kind. C

Chorus He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me Along life's narrow way. He lives, He lives, Salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

May Christ continue to live and work within you for God’s good pleasure!

Grace & peace,

Pastor Jeff

We worship you, O God, Creator of all things seen and unseen!

The family of Dorothy A. Dundore want to thank everyone for all of their prayers and good wishes. We appreciate all those that visited, came to the funeral, donated to Faith Church Choir or Community Hospice Care in Dorothy's name.

We want to give an extra thank you to Rich and Andrea Traunero for their professionalism and compassion that made all of this easier, Nancy Ferguson for her musical talent that enhanced the service, Rev. Jeff Lanzer for his thoughtful and comforting words at the funeral and the grave sight, and everyone that assisted in any way with the luncheon.

In appreciation,

Charles P. Dundore, Gary & Jan Dundore and Family, Sharon & Jeff Wadelin and Family

Thank You to everyone who purchased Easter flowers that decorated our sanctuary so beautifully.

Thank You to everyone who donated candy, Easter eggs and helped with the Easter egg hunt. You

helped make some wonderful memories for the children.

Thank You to everyone who helped with the Easter breakfast.

Confirmation Sunday—Confirmation is a time of intentional faith formation. For 18 weeks participants are exposed to common Christian beliefs and practices as well as ones unique to the United Methodist tradition. The intent is to lead the participants, in response to God’s grace, to make a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as well as commit to faithful service through His body, the Church. This year’s class is Ryan Dietrich, Maximus Fortney, Carson Mellott, Nico Vittorio, Haley Welter, and Bradley Willman. They will be confirmed, during the worship service on Pentecost Sunday June 4. Please note we will have one combined worship service on this day, at 10:15, due to the special nature of receiving this group of confirm-ands. This is a special time in their life and the life of the church. There will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall, after the service.

CAMP—Did you know that there are two camps held at Lakeside? Both camps are in July. One is Reach Out. It’s for youth

going in grade 8—high school graduates.(2017) It’s all about our mission as a church. Camp is centered around an off-site

mission trip and small group faith study, worship, fellowship and fun.

The second one is Lakeside Institute. It’s for youth going into grade 9 to age 20 in fall of 2017. Join for a week of

worship, fun and fellowship. There is prayer time, small group activities and free time. Come have fun and make new

friends at the Lake. There is also camp at Aldersgate, Camp Asbury and Camp Wanake. There’s something for everyone.

The church is again helping out with the camp fee. For more information contact Jane Schubert 419-448-8267

CAMP FUND - A big THANK YOU to all that have donated to the camp fund. It is really appreciated and money well

invested. The church helps pay our youth’s camp fee. If you would like to donate, just put it in an envelope, mark it camp

fund and put it in the offering plate or give it to Bonnie Scherger or Jane Schubert. Thanks again, Jane Schubert

Beginning April 30, the Friends in Faith Adult Sunday School class will begin a study that lasts

for five weeks. In Adam Hamilton's "Forgiveness: Finding Peace Through Letting Go" we will

learn how to receive the freedom that comes with forgiving—even if the person needing

forgiven is ourself. The study is led by Carol Lanzer and meets during the Sunday School

hour in the lower level of the church.

UMCOR Health Kits - Our Missions project for May will be Health Kits. Health Kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster. Health Kits are also used as learning tools in personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes. The Health kit value is $12 per kit.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

It was unanimously decided at the VBS meeting on April 19, that due to a lack of interest and commitment, VBS will not be held at Faith UMC this summer. Thank you to all who did show up to try and make this much needed ministry possible.

Peanut Butter Mission: During the month of March, we collected 103 Jars of Peanut Butter. These jars along with many others from our neighboring counties have been sent to Haiti to help give nourishment to starving families. Thank you for your generosity.

United Methodist Women Five of our U.M.W. members went to the Spring District Meeting at Rust United Methodist Church in Oberlin. The program was presented by two ladies who work at a place in Lorain that houses, feeds, finds jobs for people out of work and offers help with dealing with drug and alcohol addiction and also provides transportation or directions to local churhes. We were all asked to bring rolls of toilet paper to help provide for approximately 80 people living there at a time. As with so many other things in our country, budgets to help places like these have been cut. There are so many who need our help. Our unit received a Certificate of Recognition that we completed the criteria for being a Mission Today Unit of United Methodist Women and also a certificate recognizing that we were a Rainbow Unit in 2016. ======================================================================= The United Methodist Women would like to invite the daughters in our church and in your family to our annual All Daughters Luncheon on Saturday, May 13, at 12:00 noon. Please bring a dish to share of either a salad or dessert and we will provide the drinks. Entertainment will be provided by Paul Grover on the key board. Come join the fun and fellowship. A sign up sheet is in the Narthex. We would like to thank Amy Vittorio and all who participated in the UMW Sunday service.
