Day of Service — Sunday, October 29
Sunday, October 29 after worship we will have a day of service and then a potluck. We will be making
cards for the Mobile Meals program that operates out of our building. We will be making 4 kinds of kits
(school bags, birthing, health kits & cleaning buckets) for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
that will be delivered to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Illinois. We will be making
Christmas shoebox gifts for Spirit Lake Ministry Center which serves the reservations in the Dakotas and Red
Lake in Minnesota.
To help us prepare for the day of service we need your help to bring items for the kits and shoebox gifts
we will be making that day. We are making four kinds of kits that will be sent through United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to places in need. We will also be making Christmas Shoebox gifts to reser-
vations there.
The cleaning buckets (formerly flood buckets) are needed in Texas & Houston. We are going to try to
make 3 of them.
Below are the items that are especially needed for each area:
Health kits: hand towel (15”x25’ to 17’x27’), washcloths, metal nail file or clipper, Band-Aids
Birthing kits: receiving blankets
School kits: ruler, eraser (2” or larger), pads of paper, crayons
Shoebox gifts: small toys or gifts for various ages, candy, hat, mittens, Christmas wrapping paper, shoe-
boxes (either paper or plastic with separate tops)
Cleaning Buckets: 5-gallon round bucket with re-sealable lid, liquid laundry detergent (One 50-oz. or
two 25-oz. bottle(s) only), liquid household cleaner (12‐16 oz. liquid cleaner that can be mixed with wa-
ter), dish soap (16‐28 oz. bottle any brand), 1 can air freshener, 1 insect repellant spray (6‐14 oz. aerosol
or spray pump with protective cover), 1 scrub brush, 18 cleaning wipes (Handi Wipes or reusable wipes
- no terry cleaning towels), 7 sponges (No cellulose sponges due to mold issues), 5 scouring pads (no
stainless steel, Brillo pads, or SOS pads [nothing with soap built in]), 50 clothespins, clothesline (one 100-
ft. or two 50-ft. lines), 24-roll heavy-duty trash bags (33‐ to 45-gallon sizes), 5 dust masks, 2 pairs kitchen
dishwashing gloves (should be durable enough for multiple uses), and 1 pair work gloves.
Please bring the items to church before October 29 if possible and place them under the table outside Pastor Gail’s office.
Thank you for your help.

King of Kings and
Word of words When Jesus Christ utters a word, he opens his mouth so wide that it embraces all heaven and earth, even though that word be but in a whisper. The word of the emperor is powerful, but that of Jesus Christ governs the whole universe.

♥ The Money Pot welcomes your
donations to help support the offering
of the month. October’s money goes
for Refugee Resettlement. The money
will go to the Minnesota Council of Churches for the
refugee resettlement program. There are still refu-
gees coming to Minnesota who are in need of assis-
tance to get started. This program helps people get
settled and get basic supplies to begin their new life.
The Money Pot is located in the church lobby/
narthex.
Name the Room!!!
This fall we will be taking suggestions for naming the
rooms in the education wing. Right now we refer to
them by their past uses. It is time to give them name
so people can find them regardless of how they are
being used. Maybe you think we should use num-
bers, or colors or names of famous people, put on
your thinking caps be creative. There will be a box
outside the church office for suggestions or you can
send them to [email protected] with the tag line
“room names”.
Name suggestion will be received until October 20. The Trustees will make a decision at their November meeting and the new names will be
revealed in December.
Congregational Care Concerns:
Lynn Bonkowske had surgery in September
Liz Chun had eye surgery
Care Centers:
Elsie Brown – Norris Square, Cottage Grove
Colleen Spadaccini – White Pine, Mendota Hgts.
Jerry Lach – White Pine, Inver Grove Hgts.
Ongoing Concerns: (these will be listed for 3 months
and then removed. If you wish for them to remain on the list
longer, please contact the church office.) Benjamin Brummund, son of Ron Brummund,
Jr., continues to struggle with health problems.
Concerns Beyond our Doors:
Those being persecuted for their faith
Those separated from family
Those living with degenerative conditions
Those who are hungry
Those who have lost jobs or their homes
Those who struggle due to natural disasters
Those who grieve
Those who are uncertain about the future
The Prayer Chain is active. If you have a prayer concern, contact Sharon Yekaldo at
651-455-4770. If she is not available, contact Carol Schuldt, 651-306-0542. Please make sure
the pastor also knows of the prayer request, so that she can respond to pastoral care needs.
Pastor needs to know about telephone prayer chain requests in order to share the concern
on the e-mail prayer chain as well. If you wish to be involved in this ministry by being a part
of either the telephone chain or the e-mail chain, please speak to Pastor Gail.
Hospital Calls: If you learn someone is hospitalized, please contact the church office or Pastor Gail. With
new privacy laws, hospitals no longer call when a member is admitted. We would rather have several calls
telling us of someone’s hospitalization than not to know. Thank you.
FOR YOUR TIMES OF DEVOTION: Remember to pick up the NEWEST issue of the devotional The Upper
Room (daily readings in regular or large print). This booklet is found on the table by the parking lot door.

Extra Help Rolling in & out of Food Shelf
Do you have a large rolling suitcase sitting around picking up dust? Why not donate it to help a family in need. With each family receiving a week’s supply of food, it can sometimes be difficult to transport all the food if a client is walking or taking the bus. Help out today by donating your old large rolling suitcase to the Neighbors, Inc. food shelf.
The Gathering
Would you like to make an impact in someone’s life while meeting people from your community and having fun at the same time? If so, consider volunteering for The Gathering, a group respite for those still living in the community who have dementia. Visit www.lyngblomsten.org/thegathering. Be one of the many partners volunteering with The Gathering held at Salem Lutheran Church in West Saint Paul. Training is provided by Lyngblomsten. For more information, call or email Betsy Hoffman at 651-414-5291 or [email protected]
Church Lawn Mowing
Even as we move into cooler temperatures the
church lawn still needs to be mowed. We have
two riding lawn mowers so you and a friend or
spouse can mow together if you wish. To volunteer,
contact Collette Peterson at 651-224-6819.
Anniversary Offering
Each October we receive an anniversary offering
in celebration of the continuing faithfulness of this
congregation. This year the offering will go to
replace the last of the wooden tables at the
church and the remainder will be placed in the
capital improvement fund for future projects.
Adult Sunday School The Adult Sunday School class has begun a new
study on Bible, Culture & Community. Dr. Dana
Scopatz is leading this class in the Fireside Lounge.
Please join us!
Umbrellas
The welcome team is looking for some large
(golf size) umbrellas that we can place by the
doors so they are available for helping people
to come in when it is raining. If you have one
or know where we can buy them for a reason-
able price please let the welcome team or
Pastor Gail know.
Bible Survey Class
This October we are going to begin a survey
of the Bible class. In the year 2017-2018 we
will cover the Old Testament and next year
the New Testament. We will meet every other
Wednesday from 12 -1:30 p.m. beginning
October 18. This is an overview class to begin
to see how the Bible flows together and what
each part of the Bible is talking about. At this
time, the people who have indicated an inter-
est are available during the day; if you are in-
terested, but this day or time does not work,
please talk to Pastor Gail immediately. It may
be possible to move the day or the time or
add another section. The only thing you need
is to bring your Bible (if possible), a lunch if you
wish and an open heart and mind.
Soup & Salad is Coming
October 21st is Faith's Soup, Salad, and Bazaar
event. The Craft Group is hard working but
small so we are asking for help. If you have
any handmade items to donate for the sale
we would so appreciate your kindness. We
also are looking for used items that are in good
condition for our " Grandma's Attic " garage
sale table. In addition, there will be a bake
sale and any donations you would consider
bringing for the sale would be a big help. If
you would like to talk to a Craft Group mem-
ber you could call Liz Chun at 651-453-1999 or
Karen Cohoes at 651-456-0388. Judy Turk
at 651-343-8027 will be coordinating the Soup
and Salad meal and will welcome help with
soups, salads, and bars. Please speak with her
if you can help. Let's make this an awesome,
yummy, fun day for all!

2018 Faith Church Finance Campaign
”Live Generously”
This year the theme of our 2018 finance Cam-
paign is “Living Generously”. What does gen-
erosity look like? How do we learn to practice
it? Beginning on Sunday, October 22 we will
begin our intentional thinking about how we
share our money and the power of money in
our lives. What is the commitment you are
willing to make to help Faith Church continue
to move into God’s future for us. For the 2017
year we received 97 commitments for sup-
port, for the 2018 year we have set a goal of
receiving 105 commitments for prayer, pres-
ence and gifts. Please begin to think and
pray about your commitment to Faith Church
for 2018. The stewardship committee is look-
ing for someone or a group of people to pre-
pare our celebration meal together on Sun-
day, November 12. If you are interested in
helping prepare the meal or have a group of
friends who like to prepare it together please
let a member of the committee (George
Brown, Lynn Bonkowske, Carol Schuldt or Bob
Scopatz) or Pastor Gail know right away.
End of Life Packet
We have put together a packet of informa-
tion related to end-of-life issues. It contains
basic information as well as information
related to Faith Church. There is a section for
personal information that you can copy and
share with your family and pastor. There are
samples of documents to be considered as
well as a resource guide for your use. These
packets are available on the table outside
the offices.

Discipleship Ministries
Our offering and the payment of apportion-
ments empowers ministry within our congrega-
tion and in response to the needs of our com-
munity. The payment of apportionments helps
support the work of ministries beyond the local
church that reach people who are in desper-
ate need to feel the touch of God’s love and
reconciliation. Through our connectional giv-
ing, we support the work of our global agen-
cies such as the Discipleship Ministries, whose
purpose is to resource local churches in devel-
oping effective disciple-making systems. This
includes ministries of nurture and growth at all
age levels, from the oldest to the youngest.
By your support, the first “All In! Children’s Faith
Formation Intensive” was held in August in the
Atlanta area. The event helped equip those
who work with children in areas such as identi-
fying intentional ways of including children’s
faith formation in the disciple-making system
of the local church; creating a plan for having
courageous conversations with children, par-
ents, and church leadership; and developing
practices of pastoral care of children in our
congregations and our communities. This minis-
try happens thanks to the generous support of
United Methodists like you. Once again we
thank you for your generosity.

DARTS CONNECTIONS
Most older adults want to remain in their own homes and in the community where they have roots. With a little help from all of us, that is possible.
Volunteers are mowing 27 of 74 client lawns this summer. Fall is approaching and over 100 clients will request help getting their yards ready for winter. A group of 4-7 people can complete in a couple of hours work that is nearly impossible for those unsteady on their feet or without nearby family to help with chores.
Assisted Living costs start at $4,000/month and rise quickly. To an older adult living mortgage-free, that number is frightening, further driving the desire to stay living at home as long as possible.
Sign up to volunteer today through https://www.darts1.org/volunteer or by phoning Darts at 651-234-2254.
UMC Market
The UMC Market website is waiting for you!
If you shop online, you can go through the
UMC Market portal/website, where a percent-
age of your purchase can be designated to
Faith UMC. Signing up is free. Most churches
are already listed on UMCmarket. When you go
to UMCmarket.org, you will click on the get
“Get Started” button. You will then simply sign-
up with your email, or through Facebook, find
your church, and start shopping and donating.
