Summer 2018
Dear Partners in Ministry:
Greetings in the name of our risen Lord and Savior!
Summer is a special season for many, especially following a cold winter
and confusing spring weather. But now, many find themselves on a more
relaxing schedule. With beautiful sunny days, you gather up the family for trips
to mountains and lakes and the shore. Vacations give us the opportunity to
see our extended families and other parts of our beautiful country. Leisure
days during the summer give us a respite from our hectic lifestyles.
God has given us summers so we can enjoy the beauty of his creation; however, we are never to
lose focus on who and whose we are. Whether we are gardening, swimming, biking, walking, or
cutting the grass, we should be fixing our eyes on Jesus.
As wonderful as the summer season is, it can be a distraction to fixing our eyes on Jesus and
cause us to take our eyes and thoughts away from him. Rather than focusing on Jesus, we can let
our activities interfere with our spiritual growth and nourishment. With God’s strength, we can enjoy
our summers and still keep on our focus on him.
Remember that the ministries of Faith Lutheran continue during the summer. Yes, we only have
one service on a Sunday morning, but that time of worship and sharing in Holy Communion continues
to be important in our lives. There is more info in the newsletter about our July “Shipwrecked” VBS
program, for which we need your support. Our Iron Chefs will be providing several breakfasts after
worship during the summer, offering opportunities for fellowship with one another. There will be
several other opportunities for our youth, including CR’s “Mary Poppins Jr.” Zumba continues for the
summer, so you can keep in shape; Weight Watchers will assist you in monitoring that! And, of
course, summer will draw to a close with our annual Car Show & Craft Fair!
As we enjoy the days of summer, please keep me and the others of our church staff in your
prayers. Please also continue to be faithful in your worship attendance, either here at home or
wherever you find yourselves during summer vacations. I encourage you to bring in or send in your
weekly summer offerings, so that the Word of God might be proclaimed year round.
May God grant that all of us will find ourselves refreshed and renewed during these summer days
and months. May he give us a safe and enjoyable summer. May God bless us that we might
continue our faithful stewardship of the blessings he has entrusted to us.
In Christ,
Pastor Bodnyk
P.S.- If you worship elsewhere during the summer, bring me bulletins from other churches. I like to
see what’s going on in other places and see how they are doing ministry.

Dear Friends;
Thank you for all you did to make us feel so welcomed. You provided a
comfortable place, wonderful snacks, and a delicious lunch, all of which
took care of our needs while we attempted to become more faithful in the
work we do. Please know that your ministry of hospitality was greatly
appreciated. Gods continued blessings. Pastor Gade,
Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod
Leona and I, Catherine, would like to thank
Pastor Bodnyk and our church family for
the sympathy and cards offered to us on the
death of our beloved brother George
Seyfried. Thank you.

Dear Rev. Bodnyk;
Thank you for your recent donation of food boxes for the Easter holiday. Your generosity will continue
to help Valley Youth House in its mission to become the catalyst for youth to achieve their desired
future through genuine relationships that support families, ensure safe places, and build community
connections. Fulfilling our vision of a world in which every young person belongs to a nurturing
community would not be possible without the support of thoughtful people like you. On behalf of the
Valley Youth House and the youth we serve, thank you for your help in expanding our reach to the
most vulnerable within our community. Christina J. Schowmaker, M.B.A. Vice President,
Development and Marketing, Valley Youth
House
Many thanks to our wonderful choir for the beautiful music
they provide for us during the year! Hope you enjoy your
summer! We look forward to having you back to sing for us
in the fall. Although they are staff, Linda Eberhart and
Jennifer Kishbaugh know their talents in providing music all
year long are greatly appreciated. We also look forward to
hearing those persons that provide music during the
summer while the choir enjoys their vacation. May God be
with you all and bless you always!

UPDATE ON ROOF FUND, ORGAN FUND, LOWER PARKING LOT
In the May Newsletter, we wanted to give an update on the status of the Roof Fund and advise the congregation of upcoming repairs that will be made to the pipe organ. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the electronic version and it did not contain the update. However, the mailed version did include the information. Since that time, there are new developments which are currently being analyzed and investigated. First, we have successfully returned all the funds “borrowed” from FELC investments that were required to repair and upgrade the roof in 2015. Thank you to all who contributed to that endeavor. We achieved this with several large donations and many who contributed $3-5 additional per week over a 3 years period. Second, we have had three companies review the current condition of the 50+ years old pipe organ. Other than routine annual maintenance, nothing of substance has been done to the organ during its life span. We have decided to proceed with a local company, Emery Brothers of Salisbury Township, who will provide a plan to repair, improve and upgrade the organ. One initial repair will take place in July and a detailed long term plan is forthcoming by the end of June. In the interim, we have established an “Organ Fund” to hold contributions side marked to organ repairs, just as we did for the Roof Fund. Third, the Property Committee has determined that the lower/north parking lot is in need of repair and repaving to improve safety concerns of water and ice accumulating in low spots around the building. We have reviewed the situation with two contractors and solicited bids for work to be done prior to winter. When all of the information, bids and plans are gathered and discussed by Council, a special meeting will be called to inform the congregation and to vote on recommendations.
