How do customers implement the simplified licensing updates?

There are six steps that customers must follow precisely to ensure a smooth transition to the new simplified licensing. These steps are detailed below.

Steps 1 – 3 should be performed by all customers to take advantage of the new enhancements in each component. Note that these updates are required by Citrix Technical Support.

1. Step 1 – Apply HRP01 to your Presentation Servers. After applying this update, Application Streaming will consume either Presentation Server Platinum Edition or Enterprise Edition licenses.

2. Step 2 – Update your users to Presentation Server Streaming Client version 1.1. This update is needed to allow Application Streaming to share the Presentation Server license.

3. Step 3 – Update Access Management Console Extensions. This update allows Platinum customers to set the server edition to Platinum Edition.

Presentation Server Platinum Edition customers must also perform Steps 4 – 6 in sequence when ready to take advantage of future Platinum features:

4. Step 4 – Go to MyCitrix to receive new Platinum license(s).

5. Step 5 – Apply new license file(s) to the Presentation Server farm.

6. Step 6 – Change server edition to “Citrix Presentation Server, Platinum Edition”.

In order to take advantage of all Platinum features and to meet the requirements of the EULA introduced with Presentation Server 4.5, Platinum customers will need to perform all six steps (Enterprise customers need to perform only steps 1-3). No steps should be skipped!

What do I do with the individual licenses left on my license server after I perform the six transition steps?

You can remove the individual licenses that were received with a Presentation Server 4.5 purchase or you can leave them on the license server. They won’t be utilized and the EULA prohibits any further use of these licenses. Using these licenses would mean that your system would be non-compliant.

If I’m a Platinum customer, do I need to perform all six transition steps?

Yes; however, steps 4-6 can be done separately from steps 1-3. Note: Steps 4-6 are required before the new Platinum features and newly delivered Platinum licenses can be used.

If I’m an Advanced Edition customer, do I need a new license?

No. Only Platinum customers need to perform the licensing updates.

If I’m an Enterprise Edition customer, do I need a new license?

No; however, Enterprise customers must perform steps 1-3, so that the Application Streaming feature will use the Presentation Server Enterprise Edition license and ensure compliance.

Can I apply HRP01 if I haven’t gone to MyCitrix to get the new Platinum license?

Yes. Citrix encourages you to do so. These are two separate events that are not dependent on each other. However, if you are a Platinum customer, you may want to plan to execute all six steps at one time.

How are add-on licenses affected by HRP01 and the simplified licensing updates?

HRP01 has no significant impact to add-on licenses.

How will the new simplified licensing work for family edition upgrades to Platinum Edition from Advanced or Enterprise Edition?

A family edition upgrade is the movement between product editions (for example, an Enterprise to Platinum upgrade). For any upgrades to Platinum, customers will receive a new Platinum entitlement for the upgrade quantity purchased.

Just as customers do today, they will receive a rescission letter that reiterates the fact that they can no longer use the Advanced or Enterprise license that they upgraded. This will in turn start a process in the Citrix back-end systems to deprecate the old Presentation Server Advanced or Enterprise records so that customers cannot perform any further transactions with those licenses (for example, rehost, renew, etc.).

Note: As per the existing process, customers who wish to upgrade only a portion of their licenses must first call Customer Care or their authorized Citrix partner for assistance.

When I purchased an upgrade to Platinum, I received new Platinum licenses. What do I do with the old Presentation Server licenses that remain on my license server?

You can remove the licenses from the license server or you can leave them there. Regardless, the signed rescission letter and EULA prohibits the use of the old Presentation Server licenses.

If I only want to upgrade some of my licenses what do I need to do?

In North America or Pacific, you must call Customer Care for assistance. In EMEA, contact your authorized Citrix partner.

If I configure offline users for Application Streaming, will they release the Presentation Server license when they disconnect from the server?

No. Application Streaming for offline users will hold the Presentation Server license for the duration of the lease period set by the administrator. Add-on licenses can be purchased separately for exclusive offline users.

Why does the SmartAccess feature still require a separate license?

Because the appliance is installed in the DMZ, it is recommended that a separate license server reside there as well; therefore, it requires separate SmartAccess licenses.

What happens if I perform all of the transition steps, but forget to retrieve the new Platinum license from MyCitrix?

If you’ve already changed your servers to be Platinum servers, all connections will fail because you won’t have Platinum licenses available for check-out. All steps must be performed in order to remove the risk of interruption.
