HAIRCARE AUSTRALIA PRESENTS, PRESTIGE EDUCATION ROAD SHOW
THE SESSION
HAIRCARE AUSTRALIA PRESENTS, PRESTIGE PARTNERSNEW YORK STUDY TOUR
Our stable of key creative across evo and Cloud
Nine assembled for an all out hair ‘jam session’-
cut, colour, styling and every possible combination
of the three. Staying true to our company ethos
we wanted to create something off the beaten
path and inspiring. Something experimental,
progressive and entirely interesting from the
vanguard at the front of the industry.
Combining the talents of Jules Tognini,
Lauren McCowan, Grant Norton and Leonard
Newton, two shows were staged in Melbourne
and Adelaide to showcase evo, Cloud Nine,
FABULOSO Pro and introduce our Prestige
Partner program.
Prestige Partners is a concept where a stockist
can carry multiple lines from Haircare Australia
built around colour and combine their spend to
build their business with marketing, business
support, access to our top educators and creative
opportunity. We want to create a collective culture
that supports and creatively drives the stockists
and Prestige ambassadors who support us.
We kicked off in Melbourne with Lauren,
Grant and Jules.
Haircare Australia is known for creating and representing the very best brands across every facet of our industry. We thrive on education, inspiration and innovation. Part of the promise we make to our industry is that we are constantly striving to create opportunities that inspire our stockists to push themselves further across business, education and creative boundaries.

FEATURES
Cosmoprof North America is an annual trade
show covering all the essentials of the beauty and
cosmetic industry. This year the event was held
on July 14th- 16th July at the stunning Mandalay
Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The event
is a wonderland for beauty professionals to come
together and discuss innovative ideas and new
creations, in particular a fantastic way to introduce
the new FABULOSO pro range.
FABULOSO pro was launched as the new in-salon
‘colour refresh and customised retail system’ that
enables salons to revive, intensify and maintain
their clients’ hair colour in between full colour
services - a necessary extra for salons.
The FABULOSO pro presentation was conducted
by evo’s talented colour technical manager,
Melanie Fahey and education director, Grant
Norton. The presentation covered the innovative
colour and after colour services available, the
customised retail system of colour enhancing
A fleet of Audis delivered some of Australia’s
most influential, motivated and talented women to
the star studded event which included Miranda
Kerr, Lara Bingle, Carrie Bickmore, Kerri-Anne
Kennerley and Michelle Bridges. The group of
nominees hail from diverse backgrounds including
arts, entertainment, fashion and the environment,
proving they have an abundance of both style
and substance.
The winners of the awards were presented with
personalised Waterford Crystal trophies as an
acknowledgment of their achievements, and all
conditioners and the tremendous professional
and commercial opportunity for salons. Using
FABULOSO pro, salons can now: (a) create
unlimited semi colours which will refresh, fill, tone,
pastelise, accent and enhance any colour; and
(b) customise unlimited colour conditioners, which
can then be taken home by clients, to perfectly
match and maintain colour. The FABULOSO pro
range offers salons the ability to provide unique,
prescriptive services and products that can only
purchase from them. This allows for significant
new business in salon services and retail and
ensures repeat business to the salon.
Importantly, evo is keeping it simple true to its
nature. FABULOSO pro is supported by an ipad
app which enables the user to add and store
clients, add and store recipes as well as guiding
them through the formulation process. The line
is the perfect partner to complement any salon’s
professional colour portfolio.
FABULOSO PROLAUNCH AT COSMOPROF
THE INSTYLE WOMEN OF STYLE AWARDS
Excitement filled the air with the highly anticipated launch of the FABULOSO pro range at Cosmoprof in Las Vegas. Set to be a game changer in the hair and beauty industry it did not disappoint.
guests received a generous Women of Style
goodie bag featuring a bottle of Moroccanoil
Original Treatment.
As the event’s official hairstylist and hair care
provider, Moroccanoil dressed the tresses of the
elegant Women of Style guest list. A dedicated
Hair Studio was set up at the Langham in Sydney,
where guests were invited to have their hair styled
by New York based Moroccanoil Educator
Kevin Hughes.
Moroccanoil was a proud sponsor of the prestigious 2013 Women of Style Awards in May. The annual event is held to celebrate inspirational women, doing inspirational things, and this year there was no shortage of talent.
Kevin and the team were on hand with their
collection of turquoise brushes, signature
Moroccanoil Treatment and luxe styling products
from the range. Each person styled also received
a Moroccanoil pack which included products
specifically chosen to suit their hair type.
Celebrated actress Susie Porter was thrilled
when she emerged from her Moroccanoil session
with her strawberry blonde hair arranged in an
impressively lofty ’60s beehive. An assortment of
cut-glass bobs and sleek barrel curls followed, and
perfectly glamorous ‘Moroccanoil’ hair became a
talking point of the evening.

Q: What is the Lakmè new
seasonal Collection?
A: Lakmè, together with International Creative
Director Carlos Vidal, have launched
FUTURE based around the brand’s new
ammonia free permanent hair colour range,
Chroma. FUTURE is an interactive technical
workshop that takes our hairdressers on a
comprehensive journey through the different
realms of creative colouring using ammonia
free permanent intensive colour. For further
information, or to reserve your place, please
contact [email protected]
Q: How does Chroma differ from other
ammonia free permanent colours?
A: Chroma works with a unique VibraRiche™
high-performance technology that delivers
intense, vibrant, long lasting colour that
respects the hair’s fibre during the
colouring process.
Q: What is the mixing and timing ratio
for Chroma?
A. Chroma is a 1:1 mixing ratio and can be timed
for 30 minutes for normal hair colouring, or up
to 45 minutes for additional coverage on non-
pigmented hair.
Q: What are some of the key benefits
of Chroma?
A. • Chroma has 32 shades including
two mix tones
• Chroma offers 100% coverage on non-
pigmented hair
• Chroma contains VibraRiche™, H.A.S.,
Pyrazol and PMP technology
• Chroma works with two unique designated
developers; 18 Volume and 28 Volume
Crème Developer. These contain Betafin,
which ensures optimum client comfort
during the colour service.
Q: My Client has coarse resistant 100%
grey coverage and we usually work with
Collage permanent hair colour to obtain
uniform coverage. Could I swap her to
Chroma colour instead?
A: Because Chroma is a multi-reflective
colouring tool rather than a uniform result,
such as Collage or Collage+, it would be
advisable to continue using the Collage recipe
when looking for 100% coverage on resistant
non-pigmented hair. Chroma is a completely
different type of colour to Collage,
and both have unique roles within the
colouring spectrum.

TIPS & TRICKS TALKING TECHNICALTECH TALK
With the launch of the new Lakmé colour range Chroma, We take a look at why Chroma is different to other ammonia free permanent hair colours and some of its key benefits.
Q: What is FABULOSO Pro by evo®
A: Ammonia free, peroxide free, deposit only
colour intensifiers used for in salon professional
services as well as customised bespoke take
home retail conditioners.
Q: What can you do with FABULOSO Pro?
A: FABULOSO Pro has 3 Options:
Option 1 – In Salon Colour Service
• Colour Refresh
• Colour Fill
• Colour Tone/Pastels
• Colour Accent
• Colour Enhance
Option 2 - In Salon Treatment Service
• Shine Treatment
Option 3 – Take home
customised conditioners
• Retail Colour Intensifying Conditioner
Q: Explain the Mixologist Menu.
A: The Mixologist Menu is a tool which the salon
can utilise to formulate and identify options
they have selected to work with in the salon.
The recipes are a guideline to formulate with
and the chart is a diagnosis for where and
how to use FABULOSO Pro.
Q: Explain how to use the Temptress
Shine Treatment.
A: The Temptress Shine
Treatment can be used
directly after FABULOSO
Pro, after any in salon colour
service or when a client
comes in for a hair cut and
style. The hair is left looking
fabulously SHINY and glass
like and it seals in any fresh
colour service as well as conditions and
nourishes the hair.
N.B: TEMPTRESS SHINE TREATMENT
CANNOT BE USED TOGETHER WITH
FABULOSO PRO COLOUR INTENSIFIERS –
They do not mix.
Q: Explain the difference between a Soft
Pastel and a Metallic Pastel.
A: A Soft Pastel is working with either of the 2
base conditioners of Volume and Repair to
dilute the intensifiers within to create very soft
pastels. The results are soft, diluted and are
conditioned into the hair and left on for 3 to
5 minutes. Soft Pastels are mixed to visual
results. What you see in the base conditioner
or shaker is the result you will get on the hair.
Metallic Pastels work best in accent piecing
and are created working directly with the
colour intensifiers and our tertiary intensifier
Platinum. There are specific mixing ratios for
the Metallic Pastels and generally their timing
on hair is up to 3 minutes.
Q: What is the timing for a colour refresh?
A: A colour refresh is generally left on the hair for
up to 20 minutes.
Q: How long does FABULOSO Pro in
salon colour service with Option 1 last in
the hair?
A: Depending on the client’s porosity levels and
the general heath and condition of their hair.
FABULOSO Pro can last in the hair from 6
to 16 washes. However, if you send your
client home with the signature conditioning
intensifiers you are able to keep your client’s
colour fresh and the pigment extended in
between their regular colouring services.

FRONT COVER | FABULOSO
I wanted to detail the red tones and massive shine that FABULOSO purple red can give to the hair when used to refresh the hair. We wanted to achieve simple natural volume and movement giving a sexy image. To achieve this we used evo and a Cloud Nine waving wand. Simple styling and make up for a soft complement to the total look. I really wanted to move away from the over done looks.

TALKING TECHNICAL
Q: What is FABuLOSO pro by evo®
A: Ammonia free, peroxide free, deposit only
colour intensifiers used for in salon professional
services as well as customised bespoke take
home retail conditioners.
Q: What can you do with FABuLOSO pro?
A: FABULOSO pro has 3 Options:
Option 1 – In Salon Colour Service
• Colour Refresh
• Colour Fill
• Colour Tone/Pastels
• Colour Accent
• Colour Enhance
Option 2 - In Salon Treatment Service
• Shine Treatment
Option 3 – Take home
customised conditioners
• Retail Colour Intensifying Conditioner
Q: Explain the Mixologist Menu.
A: The Mixologist Menu is a tool which the salon
can utilise to formulate and identify options
they have selected to work with in the salon.
The recipes are a guideline to formulate with
and the chart is a diagnosis for where and
how to use FABULOSO pro.
Q: Explain how to use the Temptress
Shine Treatment.
A: The Temptress Shine
Treatment can be used
directly after FABULOSO
pro, after any in salon colour
service or when a client
comes in for a hair cut and
style. The hair is left looking
fabulously SHINY and glass
like and it seals in any fresh
colour service as well as conditions and
nourishes the hair.
N.B: TEMPTRESS SHINE TREATMENT
CANNOT BE USED TOGETHER WITH
FABULOSO PRO COLOUR INTENSIFIERS –
They do not mix.
Q: Explain the difference between a Soft
Pastel and a Metallic Pastel.
A: A Soft Pastel is working with either of the 2
base conditioners of Volume and Repair to
dilute the intensifiers within to create very soft
pastels. The results are soft, diluted and are
conditioned into the hair and left on for 3 to
5 minutes. Soft Pastels are mixed to visual
results. What you see in the base conditioner
or shaker is the result you will get on the hair.
Metallic Pastels work best in accent piecing
and are created working directly with the
colour intensifiers and our tertiary intensifier
Platinum. There are specific mixing ratios for
the Metallic Pastels and generally their timing
on hair is up to 3 minutes.
Q: What is the timing for a colour refresh?
A: A colour refresh is generally left on the hair for
up to 20 minutes.
Q: How long does FABuLOSO pro in
salon colour service with Option 1 last in
the hair?
A: Depending on the client’s porosity levels and
the general heath and condition of their hair.
FABULOSO pro can last in the hair from 6
to 16 washes. However, if you send your
client home with the signature conditioning
intensifiers you are able to keep your client’s
colour fresh and the pigment extended in
between their regular colouring services.

Cosmoprof North America is an annual trade
show covering all the essentials of the beauty and
cosmetic industry. This year the event was held
on July 14th- 16th July at the stunning Mandalay
Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The event
is a wonderland for beauty professionals to come
together and discuss innovative ideas and new
creations, in particular a fantastic way to introduce
the new FABULOSO pro range.
FABULOSO pro was launched as the new in-salon
‘colour refresh and customised retail system’ that
enables salons to revive, intensify and maintain
their clients’ hair colour in between full colour
services - a necessary extra for salons.
The FABULOSO pro presentation was conducted
by evo’s talented colour technical manager,
Melanie Fahey and education director, Grant
Norton. The presentation covered the innovative
colour and after colour services available, the
customised retail system of colour enhancing
conditioners and the tremendous professional
and commercial opportunity for salons. Using
FABULOSO pro, salons can now: (a) create
unlimited semi colours which will refresh, fill, tone,
pastelise, accent and enhance any colour; and
(b) customise unlimited colour conditioners, which
can then be taken home by clients, to perfectly
match and maintain colour. The FABULOSO pro
range offers salons the ability to provide unique,
prescriptive services and products that can only
purchase from them. This allows for significant
new business in salon services and retail and
ensures repeat business to the salon.
Importantly, evo is keeping it simple true to its
nature. FABULOSO pro is supported by an ipad
app which enables the user to add and store
clients, add and store recipes as well as guiding
them through the formulation process. The line
is the perfect partner to complement any salon’s
professional colour portfolio.
FAbuLOSO PrOLAUNCH AT COSMOPROF Excitement filled the air with the highly anticipated launch of the FABULOSO pro range at Cosmoprof in Las Vegas. Set to be a game changer in the hair and beauty industry it did not disappoint.

I am thrilled to announce the winners from The
Cloud Nine Great Gatsby competition. The
worldwide success of the ‘The Great Gatsby’ has
seen the renaissance of hair inspired by the Jazz
age and this competition was designed to equip
stylists with a creative tool that will allow them to
create looks inspired by the film and the period it is
set in. The Cloud Nine Micro Wand makes setting
the hair for these styles quick, easy and effective-
without compromising on the quality of the hair.
The competition proved very popular and we
received entries from all over the country! The
conditions for entry were simple- purchase a Micro
Wand for professional use and as your entry. Then
style a creative look using the Micro Wand and
photograph it, along with a before shot and a step
by step. We did not judge the competition based
on styling, photography or makeup. We wanted to
create an easy, creative competition that would not
alienate any young stylists financially and bring it
back to the hair work. This competition was judged
The Great Gatsby cLOuD NINe mIcrO wAND cOmPetItION
purely on the hair, hence the before photos and
the requirements of a step by step.
The standard of work across the board was
amazing and it was what I have come to expect
from our Cloud Nine stockists- excellence and
innovation. Extremely difficult to judge!
Our winners of the Great Gatsby, Cloud Nine Micro Wand Competition are:
1St PLAce- SAm JAmeS ORBE HAIRDRESSING - ADELAIDE.Sam’s entry was classic and beautiful. I loved how
much depth her fingerwave had and the amount of
curl and body she created through the lengths of
her model. The hair wasn’t too overdone and still
had a nice amount of life and movement to keep
a modern feel to it. All in all a fantastic example of
the capabilities of the Micro Wand.
2ND PLAce-- ZOwIe evANS ZOWIE EvANS HAIR - MELBOURNE.Zowies entry was soft, fresh and a modern take
on a classic waved bob. The dressing of her set
was lovely and the waves sat symmetrically and
still had enough movement to look fresh while still
retaining that alluring Jazz age glamour.
3rD PLAce - KArLA SmIth MASCI HAIR - MELBOURNE.Carla’s entry was a modern clash of sleek and
streamlined with a fantastic curled wedge that
showed off the versatility of the Micro Wand. She
created a beautiful shape with her wedge and the
shape and composition of her look was effortless
and right on the trend mark.
Congratulations to all the entrants, I look forward
to working with Sam on her editorial prize and
creating more creative competitions for the
industry in the future!!

Ensure you have a feel for hair The first traditional and essential skill is having a
'feel' for hair. Whether you're creating a modern
look or a classic style, your understanding here
needs to be rock solid. Today there's a lot
of emphasis on technique, which naturally is
important. However, in order to know what looks
can be achieved with an individual head of hair,
you have to initially learn about die feel - something
that is becoming a lost art.
There are many ways to strengthen this skill.
When I was running three salons and training my
team, I personally found that learning the art of
pin curling was great for mastering how to handle
hair. This is an invaluable talent as it allows you to
fully understand what its capable of, so that if a
client requests a particular style, you can avoid any
potential disasters, as you'll instinctively know (and
can politely explain) whether it is achievable.
Understanding hair's shape also helps. At the
beginning of my career, I was fortunate enough to
be trained by the legendary Silvio Camillo. Before
we picked up a pair of scissors, comb or dressing
brush, he first walked us around London to look at
buildings and shapes. It may sound old fashioned,
but he taught me one thing that still remains true
today; the shape of hair is an 'S' and that's what
we should always aim for in hairdressing. Whether
it's a bob, crop, or long hair, when it's moved, it
should fall back into the same shape. Even straight
hair should have some movement- not necessarily
a curl or wave - just movement.
These early lessons are still useful to me today. If
you take time to truly appreciate the feel, shape
and movement of hair, it can really take your skills
to another level.
Brush up on your blow-dry If you want to move your column and your
business forward, don't underestimate the power
of a good old, classic blow-dry. In countries such
as France, there's an emphasis not just on cut and
finish clientele, but also on the weekly blow-dry
customer. A client visiting for a £25 blow-dry once
a week (or even twice a month) will be far more
profitable in the long run than someone who visits
for a £50 haircut every eight weeks. But to keep
them coming back, the foundations of a good
blow-dry can’t be forgotten. You have to go back
to basics.
Historically, a classic blow-dry was about more
than just drying the hair. When done well with
a hairdryer and a great brush, you could create
lift, movement and polish too. The invention and
popularity of straightening irons (for which I know
I am partly responsible for) has meant that some
hairdressers instead blast the hair with a hairdryer
and then let the irons do the heavy lifting. However,
give a client a truly great blow-dry first and the
irons then only need to be run through lightly at a
temperature suited to their individual hair type to
finish the look.
To get clients addicted to visiting your salon
for a blow-dry rather than doing it at home, the
trick is to use the right tools. This starts with a
high quality brush and that's why we invested in
creating our own range. The new hand-made
Cloud Nine Radial Brush has a ceramic barrel
to reduce blow-drying time combined with boar
bristles which gently polish the shaft to produce
a classic, professional blow-dry. Getting both
the foundations and the finish right will not only
promote a long-lasting blow-dry but also
help ensure that the client will want to come
back for more.
Perfect the art of dressing Knowing how to dress hair is another traditional
method that is underrated yet can really help
elevate your skills. Take the humble roller. One of
the reasons I invented our roller system, The0,
which heats up rollers in four seconds was
because I recognised their value and importance
in creating volume and movement for modern, as
well as classic styles and wanted to simplify the
process. Despite this, I've come across some
hairdressers who are unsure how to put rollers
in, or how to dress the hair when they have been
taken out.
Whilst I am confident that the vast majority of
professionals in our industry will have learnt how
to use rollers and pin curl for example, how often
are these skills revisited? Whilst Mrs. Smith may
always request ‘the usual' when she comes in for
appointments, as experts we have to be prepared
for when she wants that glamorous look for a
special occasion too. If you 're well rehearsed on
classic dressing skills because you worked on
them in a recent training session, you'll be able to
handle her request much more confidently than if
you're trying to remember what you learnt when
you were a trainee fifteen years ago.
I'm not saying we should all go back to using pin
curling every day. However, I believe that having
the ability to pin curl gives you more of a tactile feel
for hair and regularly brushing up on your traditional
dressing skills will mean you’re always prepared for
the unexpected.
Make time for extra training Mastering all of the skills I've mentioned such as
developing a feel for and dressing hair all relate to
something that I'm passionate about; consistent
training. It's not just about going on a course a few
times a year. To truly progress, training outside of
salon hours is required.
Having worked in the industry for over 50 years as a hairdresser, session stylist, salon owner and
inventor, Cloud Nine founder Robert Powls has amassed a wealth of knowledge on how to succeed in
hairdressing. Robert shares his expert advice on how to hone your hairdressing skills and help take your
business to the next level focusing on the importance of going back to basics.
With new techniques and trends being developed at lightning speed, as hairdressers it's easy to
lose sight of traditional methods. However, if you want to move your career forward, it's important
to go back to basics.
To be a rounded hairdresser, knowing how to execute old-school skills such as pin-curling, dressing
hair and even classic blow-drying are vital. Whilst all of these methods may not be required every day,
whether you're a hairdresser performing a makeover on live television, working backstage at Fashion
Week or in the salon , having these foundation skills in your arsenal will enable you to handle any request
quickly and confidently. Here are my tips for using traditional methods to help your skills and your
business blossom.

For The Rachel Zoe Collection for Spring/Summer 2014, runway stylist Antonio Corral Calero, Moroccanoil Artistic Director, created a deconstructed modern take on the braid, with a contrasting and overlapping tangled textural effect that looked as if hair was styled on-the-go. The look was achieved by taking random parts of pre-textured strands, crisscrossing them (like macramé) and tucking them into the back and inside of a low braid.
GET THIS LOOK
rAcheL ZOeSPRING/SUMMER 2014
STEP BY STEP:1. Moroccanoil Original Treatment was used on
dry hair to condition, strengthen and smooth.
The hair was then sprayed with Moroccanoil
Root Boost (available 2014) at the roots
starting at the nape, and working up.
2. Moroccanoil Molding Cream (available 2014)
was then worked in from roots to ends,
giving the hair a semi-matte texture and a
healthy looking shine.
3. The hair was then blow dried from
underneath and lifted at the roots using
fingers, letting it dance and tangle under the
air flow.
4. When almost dry, and with model’s head
bent over, the hair was finger massaged
and lifted at the root to intensify the tangled
texture. From here, the hair was sectioned
from ear to ear and pinned up while a braid
was created with the remaining strands at the
nape of the neck.
5. The top hair was then released and various
parts of the different strands were tucked into
the braid like macramé. The various strands
were then blended in waves to create a
loose inverse-pyramid shape that was wider
on top. Following this, the palm was softly
rotated over the hair to make it lie naturally.
To add a tribal vibe, several little braids were
placed randomly at the sides.
6. Finally, the shorter hairs at the hairline were
pulled out so that the style appeared loose
and natural.

TOME is an Australian design duo based out of
New York, and have a well-documented history of
taking inspiration from thoughtful, unlikely places
for their collections. Spring 2014 was no exception
for Tome, with designers Ryan Lobo and Ramon
Martin looking to Cuban-American pagan artist
Ana Mendieta as an aesthetic foundation for their
new ready-to-wear range, whose presentation
was given creative direction by cult stylist, Michelle
Jank. With a palette of dreamy pastels — creams,
rose hues and sandy earth tones — the well-
deserved CDFA finalists took a deconstructionist
approach to their pieces; the floaty slip dresses,
trenches and oversized culottes featuring
shredded tweed, tulle, python skin, delicate lace
and even high-shine plastics.
evo is fast developing a reputation for unparalleled styling ability and performance. Session stylists from all over the world are connecting with the brand and the product’s styling prowess. One of these stylists is the inimitable Sophie Roberts, who directed the hair for evo on the TOME show at New York Fashion Week on September 5.
The final day of the HCA Prestige Partners NYC
Study Tour, the TOME show was a highlight for the
tour team, who all worked backstage with Sophie
Roberts and Lauren McCowan at one of the
most anticipated shows of the season. The team
was made up of Mel Gesualdo, Freda Rossidis,
Natalie Depasquale, Mark Bailey, Sarah Sollazo,
Lisa Pace, Anna Ntaliianis, Kara Layton, Rachel
Beswick, Kate Donald and Tina Kothris.
The hair look, developed by Sophie, was a
deconstructed rope braid, with multiple product
mixing to give a separated, built up finish to the
hair. The idea behind the hair look was to bring
the soft colour palette and structural shapes in the
collection back to an androgynous strength that
defines the modern woman.
1. Spray hair down with Day of Grace leave in
conditioner for an even dampness.
2. Mix Gangsta grip with Love Perpetua and
Shape vixen in even proportions and work
through hair until evenly coated.
3. Comb the hair straight back with a wide tooth
comb and split into two vertical sections.
4. Twist hair into two ropes at the nape of the
neck and diffuse dry hair.
5. Drying will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
Occasionally aerate the hair and then retwist
into shape so that the middle of the twists
dry evenly.
6. Once hair is dry, gently break apart twists
and shake hair out.
7. Using Helmut spray, shape the front
of the hairline and clip with setting clips to
hold shape.
8. Gather hair into two sections at the nape
and start tying together into knots to create a
rope like braid.
9. Pick the sides of the hair up and detail style
for a square, masculine shape through the
back, by pinning strands and pulling out
pieces of the braid.
10. Once you are happy with the shape, spritz
with Helmut to hold and remove all clips.

EDUCATION
Haircare Australia is known for bringing together the best brands across every facet of hairdressing. This also means having the very best educators and creatives to represent these brands. We asked ourselves what would happen if we threw our best and brightest on the stage together? The answer was ‘Who knows but we’ll find out.’
HAIRCARE AUSTRALIA PRESENTS, PRESTIGE EDUCATION ROAD SHOW
THE SESSION
Our stable of key creative across evo and Cloud
Nine assembled for an all out hair ‘jam session’-
cut, colour, styling and every possible combination
of the three. Staying true to our company ethos
we wanted to create something off the beaten
path and inspiring. Something experimental,
progressive and entirely interesting from the
vanguard at the front of the industry.
Combining the talents of Jules Tognini,
Lauren McCowan, Grant Norton and Leonard
Newton, two shows were staged in Melbourne
and Adelaide to showcase evo, Cloud Nine,
FABULOSO Pro and introduce our Prestige
Partner program.
Prestige Partners is a concept where a stockist
can carry multiple lines from Haircare Australia
built around colour and combine their spend to
build their business with marketing, business
support, access to our top educators and creative
opportunity. We want to create a collective culture
that supports and creatively drives the stockists
and Prestige ambassadors who support us.
We kicked off in Melbourne with Lauren,
Grant and Jules.

SALON FEATURE
Sheek Hair Design, located in the beach side
suburb of Mordialloc, offers on trend, cutting edge
styling and colour services. Salon owner, Katie
d’Offay, believes that great colour compliments
a great cut and prides herself on offering an
exceptional salon experience by providing
personalised client services.
Adopting the mantra that ‘happy hair is healthy
hair’, the talented team of six are attuned to
popular trends and believe in using the best
products to ensure best results. In order to tailor
their services to individual clients, Sheek stocks
a wide range of Haircare Australia products,
including Moroccanoil, evo, Alterna, Lakmé and
Cloud Nine. When quizzed on their favourite
product the staff at Sheek were quick to cite
Alterna’s luxurious, affordable and certifiably
organic Bamboo range; ‘We love it, and our clients
love it because it is versatile and delivers for all hair
types. It literally walks out the door’.
Katie asserts that to be a good hairdresser,
you need to thrive on all things hair. As a stylist,
Katie recognises that being both passionate and
adaptable is the key to success in a continually
evolving industry such as hairdressing. She also
understands the need for continued study and
education, and by partaking in one course a
month Katie and her team stay on top of
upcoming trends and keep their passion burning
for all things ‘hair’. Katie is so committed to
continued study that when asked what she would
do for Sheek if given any amount of money Katie
replied; ‘This one is easy, I would take my entire
team to the United States, home of Alterna, creator
of our favourite Bamboo, and soak up product
information like a sponge’.
With their finger on the pulse of hair trends
and fashion, Sheek Hair Design run a yearly
photoshoot and use their images as a salon
window display. This year, the shoot was focussed
around Cloud Nine products and featured both
a feminine waved look and a raw straight look to
demonstrate the tools’ versatility.
Katie predicts that big hair with soft, feminine
waves and a touch of 1920s glamour will
characterise 2014’s style trend, and recommends
using Cloud Nine’s Big O and Micro Wand to
create these looks. She also expects that we’re
going to see more vanilla and champagne tones
for blondes and rich, glossy, chocolate and
chestnut browns for brunettes. She is looking
forward to using the Lakmé Chroma to craft these
beautiful glossy colours.

SALON FEATURE
Gravity Hair Boutique, located in Kalgoorlie,
Western Australia, offers clients an exceptional,
tailored salon service that is centred around on-
trend, superior styling. The team of eight also have
a strong focus on colour correction and prescribe
an at home treatment retail program that assists in
producing exceptional finishes.
Customer service is Gravity’s first priority, which is
why Amanda and her team go above and beyond
to offer clients superior products and styles. They
are firm believers that study and education is
what makes good hairdressers great and thus
provide excellent training programs and continuous
development courses for their staff.
As stockists of Lakmé, Alterna, Moroccanoil,
Cloud Nine, and the full evo and FABULOSO pro
range, good products are always close at hand.
With such a versatile range, it is little wonder the
team find it difficult to choose just one product
to recommend, preferring instead to prescribe
a range of brands to individuals based on their
specific style and hair requirements.
Whilst ambiguous about a favourite wet product,
Gravity’s staff unanimously agree that Cloud Nine
offers the most superior styling capability. The
team use the entire range, however they favour the
Micro Wand due to its versatility and ease of use.
Their clients also love the Micro Wand as it allows
them to recreate salon styles at home.
When asked what the most popular cut and style
requests were, the team agreed that textured
longer bobs and soft, feminine curls have
dominated this season.

GRAvITY HAIR BOUTIqUE
When offering colour services, Gravity is proud to
offer the Lakmé Chroma range, which they state
has completely changed their approach to colour.
Lakmé allows Gravity to meet consumer demands
for ppd and ammonia free colour, while providing
them with exceptional results. Amanda and her
clients also appreciate that Chroma is far more
time efficient than other brands they’ve used in the
past. Gravity’s favourite 2013 colours range from
multi tonal colours that create the illusion of one
tone, to warm rich tones for brunettes and golden
hues for blondes.

STYLIST SPOTLIGHT
Jules’ collection ‘Chicks Dig Beards and Scars’
was inspired by ‘real guys’ - real guys doing real
guy things; swearing, scratching, and drinking from
the milk container.
Jules captured the rugged reality of man, using
styling that was raw and untamed to create a
quintessentially masculine look.
As a finalist for four years running, Jules is ecstatic
about achieving his win using this collection. “This
is a huge win for me and my gang,” says Jules.
“We are all so chuffed and have worked so hard
to get here. Being recognised for the work I do
feels totally rad!”
2013 is proving to be another great year for Jules,
with the super stylist walking away with the title
of ‘Visionary’ at the annual Australian HotShots
Awards in March.
With this early string of success behind him,
it‘s clear this 29 year old is only set to continue
spreading his talent, passion and enthusiasm
for the hair industry on both the national and
international stage.
