Frequently law enforcement is tasked with investigating offenses involving the same individual(s) over and over, which leads to minimal or no prosecution. This course focuses on technology that can be exploited during these investigations with specific emphasis on utilizing various federal statutes to maximize sentences for violent offenders. The entire course is built and taught using real life case. Initiation of an investigation, building the case, roadblocks you may encounter, and how to work around them will all be discussed. Numerous electronic surveillance techniques will be demonstrated that are applicable to criminal investigations and fugitive apprehensions. The investigative techniques taught in this class apply to Patrol Officers, Detectives, VICE, NARC, Gang Unit, Crime Analysts, etc. TOPICS INCLUDE: Starting an Organized Crime Investigation Interview techniques/tactics to maximize sentencing Exploiting technology in identifying, locating and apprehending suspects (PRTT social media warrants, phone pings & social media analysis etc.) Utilizing IP records from social media accounts to obtain locations and phone numbers for suspects Prosecution challenges with Organized Crime cases Full overview of leading and filing federal cases from initial arrest through final sentencing Students will be given a FREE list of investigative resources in the class and shown numerous free databases/resources during the class. INSTRUCTOR: Eric Wilson is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division at a large agency in the State of Texas. Eric has lead and supervised the federal prosecution of 200+ white supremacist gang members and associates. These cases have received multiple awards from the Department of Justice. He is a highly commended officer in the use of electronic surveillance to successfully arrest and prosecute violent offenders for various offenses. Eric has served on a federal fugitive task force for 12 years. He assisted with developing a curriculum for his agency to teach new investigators how to successfully lead large-scale federal conspiracy investigations and maintains current knowledge regarding the use of technology in law enforcement.
