Soup Making Experience
I'm cooking my mother's recipes. So I ask Carl what
soups his mom cooked.
What I had got for the experience, fresh ingredients!
We looked at the cookbook together and decided which
soup to make.
In the end we layed out the vegetables so Carl could
take a photo.
I got Carl to chop his favourite veggies. He
stirred the pot.
I kept checking in with Carl, like asking what kind of stove he has at home.

Drumming Experience
I started out talking about listening to the soundscape
around us.
I had Owen and his mom listen to the world live on
headphones
I showed Owen how to stretch his hands for
drumming as a warm-up
Everyone took turns drumming together. Owen
took a video of his mom drumming.
I showed Owen some drum patterns and had him
drum along
I spoke about tempo and dynamics. Kept checking in
with Owen about which drums he wanted to try.

Here's why
Sensory engagement is a
form of experiential learning
Making is a way of applying new
information, using body memory
Learning new information is key
for long term growth
Sharing stories brings significance to new knowledge
and skills
Recording sights and sounds helps
recall and reflection
