Almabani’s Head of Programming Department celebrated the birth of his son with his office colleagues and teammates. Cake was on the menu.

Dear Colleagues,

With the end of the first quarter of 2018 drawing near, I have the pleasure to bring to you issue number 20 of The Almabani Journal. In this new issue we are introducing a 4 page new section from the IT Help Desk, to provide our readers using iOS11 and the new iPhone X with some useful tips. It's worth noting that this year marks the 45th anniversary for the birth of the Internet, the worldwide web's 27th, while the ageing personal computer already in his late 30s is morphing into the tablets and smartphones implementation. So it's time we stopped yammering about "new" technology and took a long hard look at what it's doing to improve our way of life and the productivity in our work.

During the 1st Quarter of 2018, the Media Department embarked on the challenge of unifying Almabani’s Corporate Identity, initiating the design and in-house production of the new Almabani’s Corporate Letterheads. During the 2nd Quarter of the year 2018, we will be producing in-house all our Corporate Business Cards.

Above The Line productions are becoming more streamlined and concise. This fueled our Social Media Platforms taking an unprecedented level of traction presently exceeding 20K in followers.

Guest of the JournalAn Interview with the Director of Corporate Accounting Mr. Ahmad Abdullatif

Interviewed by: John El Khoury

John El Khoury: Thank you for giving us the time to conduct this interview with your good self. At the beginning, please introduce yourself, going over your academic background and your professional journey.Ahmad Abdullatif: I graduated from Ain Shams University (Egypt) in the year 1974. Following my graduation I worked as an auditor in Egypt. 1980 was the year that I moved to Saudi Arabia joining Almabani General Contractors as an accountant. Today, after 38 years of employment I am the Director of Corporate Accounting for Almabani.

JK: Brief us about how the Accounting operation, run in Almabani, covering all projects around the Kingdom.AA: Accounting is often called “The Language of Business.” It communicates financial information and performance that owners, managers and investors need to evaluate. Our Accounting system in Almabani was developed in-house to cater for our needs, linking our different sites transactions with the HQ Accounts, therefore having an updated position on the morning of each business day. This advancement is the result the hard work our IT programmers and our vision to elevate our company to higher levels of development.

HEAD OF ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT MR. AHMAD ABDULLATIF GRANTED THE ALMABANI JOURNAL READERS AN INSIGHT INTO THE CORPORATE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT, TALKING ABOUT HIS BACKGROUND.

Guest of the JournalAn Interview with the Director of Corporate Accounting Mr. Ahmad Abdullatif

JK: What was the biggest challenge you faced over the years of your service at Almabani and how did you overcome this challenge?AA: The biggest challenge faced in our accounting department is the shifting from booking our accounting entries manually to computerized accounting, and then the online consolidations of the transactions. Before it took us too much time and efforts to record the transactions manually. This also required a large number of employees, while today to perform more complicated transactions we have a lesser number of employees.

JK: What is the realization about Almabani that you are most proud of?AA: The family spirit that we instilled in the minds of all our employees.

JK: If we want to tackle the present day situation within the Saudi market and the introduction of VAT, how do you compare the early days in Almabani with the current situation?AA: As everyone knows that continuous professional development is vital in this field, so you’ll have to be prepared to keep learning throughout your career, updating on self on the changes in Accounting and Auditing standards. It's worth mentioning that we are shifting in 2018 from the local accounting Saudi Standards law (SOCPA) to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in addition to the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT). This is a big challenge to all members of the Accounting team, and cannot be achieved smoothly without having a strong team that can cope with the change and face these challenges.

JK: What is your advice for the upcoming and young generation at Almabani?AA: Coming to the Company with a strong academic knowledge is not enough. Hands on experience and learning on the job, as well as attending professional seminars is a must. The coming years in our profession will be tougher and need strong individuals that are constantly trying to improve themselves. There’s always something that you can work on or a new skill to master, be sure to keep your mind open to new ideas and possibilities.

JK: Last, I leave the final words to you.AA: I appreciate having the opportunity to work for such a great company, and I wish my colleagues and the company continued success.

IT Help Desk TipsHow To Share a Wi-Fi Password With a Nearby Device in iOS 11

Sharing a Wi-Fi password just became a whole lot easier with the introduction of iOS 11. In previous operating systems, if you wanted to share your Wi-Fi password you'd need to give it out so visitors could enter it in their device and join your network. This could get complicated if your devices had stayed logged in to

• Hold your iPhone near another iOS device that is already connected to the Wi-Fi network you wish to join, or the router itself.

• Tap on the network you wish to join.

• A screen will pop up prompting you to enter the Wi-Fi password.

• Now a prompt pops up on the network owner's device asking permission to connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.

• Network owner taps "Share Password."

• From your Home Screen, tap on Settings.

• Scroll down to Wi-Fi and make sure the button is toggled on.

For this feature to work, the device you want to include in your network must already be in your contacts. If they're not, go ahead and add them now. The devices sharing and receiving Wi-Fi access must also both be updated to iOS 11.

your Wi-Fi for so long that you found yourself asking, "wait, what is my Wi-Fi password again?" But with iOS 11, iPhone owners no longer have to remember and share their password, the new system allows you to share your Wi-Fi with friends with one tap. Let's get started learning how to share Wi-Fi in iOS 11!

IT Help Desk TipsHow To Open The App Switcher on iPhone X

12

The iPhone X has an app switcher that’s nearly identical to the App Switcher on all other iPhones. There are two major differences: how you access the App Switcher and how you remove apps from the app switcher.

• Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, stopping about a third to half of the way up.

• You’ll feel a little haptic feedback buzz to let you know you’ve engaged the App Switcher.

• Lift your finger and the App Switcher you know will appear.

• For a visual cue, locate the bar the very bottom of your screen.

• If you swipe right over that bar (or do a little bunny hop over it with your finger), your most recent app will open.

• You can continue to swipe along the bar in either direction, easily toggling between the apps.

A favorite iPhone X software feature is the ability to swipe between apps without opening the App Switcher.

Here’s how to open the App Switcher on an iPhone X. We’ll also cover a really cool feature on the iPhone X that allows you to quickly swipe between apps without ever opening the App Switcher. Let’s get into it.

IT Help Desk TipsHow to Schedule Do Not Disturb on Your iPhone

The Almabani Journal . Issue No.20 . January - March, 2018

Scheduling Do Not Disturb Times:

It’s wonderful to be constantly connected to friends, family, and coworkers… until it’s not. An iPhone can make you more available and productive, able to pick up last minute items at the grocery store, or help you lend expertise to a client halfway

• Go to Settings and scroll down to Do Not Disturb.• Toggle the Scheduled switch.

around the world; but it can also encroach on time set aside for family, rest, and relaxation. Fortunately, you can utilize Do Not Disturb on your iPhone to mute intrusive calls, texts, and notifications.

Change the From and To settings to your bedtime and wake up time, family dinner time, or whatever regularly scheduled event you’d like your phone to leave you alone during.

With the Schedule set and turned on, your Do Not Disturb will automatically engage at the times you’ve set. Do Not Disturb has been around quite some time on iPhone, which means this tip will work for any iPhone model running any iOS.

IT Help Desk TipsHow to Find AirDrop in iOS 11

14The Almabani Journal . Issue No.20 . January - March, 2018

Before iOS 11 changed the layout of Control Center, the AirDrop options were clearly visible within Control Center. With iOS 11, AirDrop is still there but hidden. If you’re wondering what happened to AirDrop, we’ll help you locate it. AirDrop in Control

• On iPhone X, swipe down from the top right of your screen.

• On every other model of iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of your screen.

• 3D Touch or long press the Wi-Fi icon. This will open up a whole other menu that reveals quick access to your Personal Hotspot and, of course, AirDrop.

Center is where you choose who can find you and send you things via AirDrop. Of course, even if anyone can find you, you still have the option to decline. But it’s good to know where AirDrop has disappeared to in Control Center with iOS 11.

Here’s how to find AirDrop in iOS 11 on iPhone:

Open Control Center:

Tap on AirDrop. Select who can find and send you stuff via AirDrop: Receiving Off, Contacts Only, or Everyone.

Generally leave AirDrop on “Everyone”, because rarely is someone near trying to send you something they haven’t discussed. And by setting it to “Everyone”, you never really need to change this setting. But of course, you’ll want to select the option that works best for you.
