Eve Teasing

Eve teasing is normally meant as teasing a girl or woman, refers to public sexual harassment or street harassment to a girl by a boy, when it turns into a serious issue. Eve teasing is a very common term in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan.

History Though the problem received public and media

attention in 1960s, it was in the following decades, when more and more women started going out to colleges and work independently, which means they are often no longer accompanied by a male escort as had been a norm in traditional society, that the problem grew to an alarming proportion.

One statistics has revealed that during January-July 2008 period only, about 13,000 women became victims of eve teasing of different forms across the country.

History As reported in the newspapers in the recent

past Nurina, Elora, Simi, Trisha, Tonni, Swapna, Tithi, Rumi committed suicide to escape the cruelty of stalkers' repression.

Over the last four months, as reported in The Daily Star, fourteen girls, due to repression of stalkers, opted for ultimate destiny of their lives finding no other alternatives.

One statistics has revealed, in hole India every one hour 28 more girls were raped.

Cause of eve teasing Scoundrel and naughty boys, who did

not respect their parents and other. A drug addicted man. A women dressing out of gear. Negative representation of female in

media, etc. Electronic media, especially some

movies,as a behaviour for men indulged in some fun.

Cure for eve teasing A ban on dressing in a certain way to

solution for eve teasing. The authorities should arrive at better

ways to fight eve teasing. Jeans and short tops can also be

considered decent dressing. College years are the ideal time to learn

how to fight against their own problems.

Cure for eve teasing Psychological problems and lack of

lack of Counseling Centers to cure eve teasers.

Passiveness of society people to strict actions and punishment towards eve teasers.

Put down eve teaser with a heavy hand.

Negate and Law : In our country, yet now there is no strict

law that can effectively curb eve teasing. Article 76 of the Dhaka Metropolitan

Police Ordinance 1976 of the Penal Code of 1860 affirms that any acts,that are used to disgrace women are punishable by law.

However, these provisions seem minor compared with the crimes they commit.

Recently, the government is planning to introduce a strict law against eve teasing. No doubt, this is a timely step to move forward.

Considering eve teasing as a serious crime, some states in India have introduced stringent laws.

So, if we want to reduce this crime, we must launch a social movement against this crime

Peaceful Settlement : First of all we need to reduce the

gender segregation in the society so that children of both genders can know each other well.

We also need to formulate a mass awareness programme in this context.

Media, NGOs and other social organisations may play pivotal role in this respect.

Peaceful settlement :

We have two suggestions; One for the girls, PLEASE be brave and face the stalkers.

And last one for Rab, beat the stalkers so that they don't even dare to think of doing it.
