The communication of time based information; capturing an accurate representation of pedestrian awareness. The crosswalk examined was located across Campus Drive Road, to the right of Campus Place Road and adjacent to the University LRT Station. On Wednesday September 23, 2014, the crosswalk was documented in three five minute intervals. The pedestrians were broken down into: those wearing headphones, those using cell phones and those attentive.

assignment 05 - tectonics and intention

The tectonic exploration of an assigned prece-dent, Office Da. The manipulation of a traditionally perceived rigid material into an airy, soft, flexible looking structure through the assemblage of smaller parts into a larger whole; visually akin to fabric. The 1:10 model was produced by shaping thin birch plywood, creating incisions and interweaving individual panels.

assignment 06 - surface articulation

The design of an articulated surface following one of Antoine Picon’s three features of contemporary ornament: texture, pattern, or topology. In this project I articulated the surface of an object by manipulating control points to create a form of topological ornament. The ornament is projected from the surface itself, produced by an arrangement of curvature.

The production of a 20”x30” board layout and a two page 8.5”x11” spread of a previous project.

Riley Park - A Locational Framework

This intervention serves to frame Riley Park both on the micro and macro scale by framing the park as a whole, while situating it within a larger aggregate. Located in the middle of the park, the structure becomes a vertical extension of the park itself, lifting the viewer to heights otherwise unattainable. Providing the user with experiential views of adjacent park life and defining surrounding areas, this intervention creates a locational framework, situating the user both within, and outside park boundaries.

Riley Park - A Tectonic Exploration

Project

The transformation of the tectonic intentions of an assigned precedent into the creation of a framing mechanism that captured a phenomenon, and or, phenomena, within Riley Park, Calgary, AB.

Precedent - Signal Box, 1995

The Herzog and de Meuron Signal Box houses electronic equipment that regulates the signals for trains entering and leaving the rail yard. Enwrapped in a copper architectural skin, the twisting of the copper cladding gives an organic quality to a rigid piece of techincal equipment. The tectonic intentions of the Signal Box reflects that of solidity to void space, in essence, dematerializing a material.
