EVALUATION:QUESTION 1

Page 2: Evaluation - Question 1 (Katie Anderson Media AS)

Q1IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

The first indent shows ‘Priory Productions’ which is simple and fits with the scenes of the film, making it easy for the audience to understand and be aware of the genre and route of the film. The text enters in a way in front of the dark gloomy time lapse scene in which leaves questions such as ‘What is this film about’ and ‘I wonder how this film will relate to horror’ And this is what we wanted our audience to think, for the thriller/horror genre to leave our audience on the edge of their seats and curious.

NARRATIVE

Our entire film opening is all related to our narrative structure. We used establishing shots beginning with scenes from inside the house, progressing to a shot of the outside setting of the house. This created enigmas like: Where is this? What is in there? The narrative structure is one in which creates curiosity and thrills, throughout the lead up to the entry of the house and the actual storyline in which takes place within the house. The actions the 2 characters take part in such as treading lightly throughout the house and looking slowly through the belongings of the past owner along side the skeptical speech creates high levels of wonder from the audiences point of view. Also we allowed cross overs between the antagonist and protagonist to create wonder.

CAMERA WORK

The first frame we see after the indent is the introduction to the 2 main characters, being the vulnerable girls in the film. This is at a low angle aswell as a medium shot to capture both girls and their movement. Throughout our film we used a number of

different angles and shots to show diversity in the different situations. This includes extreme close ups, medium shots, long shots, establishing shots, low and high angles.

Not only did we use a tripod to capture our film, we also used an Iphone 6 camera to incorperate the POV shots for example when using an app to create a vintage style filming.

SOUND

• Throughout our entire film a soundtrack runs through consisting of creepy slow music, along side ambient sounds. This music was copyright free, therefore allowing us to use it.

• We used sound effects to emphasis movements to show they are important and to create further intensity. We took inspiration when creating these sound effects from films such as ‘Scream’ and ‘House at the end of the street’ and other films that put emphasis on the mabient sounds to build up tension.
