BrochureAn informational brochure to interest college students in an 8-week study abroad trip to Marseille, France.

Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

3.28.2015

Communication 130 Section 5

Set up a brochure of any topic, creating a new logo and incorporating all three Adobe programs. Use at least four images and one clipped image from Photoshop. Full bleed, front and back, and at least 250 words of body copy in separate paragraphs and titles.

I decided to go with a trifold layout brochure, and sketched out each thing I wanted on each panel. I edited the woman with the suitcase in Photoshop, using a brush and coverup to make her dress longer. I clipped her out of the full image. I used InDesign to design the brochure, and used a triadic color scheme throughout the design. I chose 7 different images of Marseille. I used the rule of thirds to break up each category on each panel. I created the program “Le Bon Sense” and designed a simple logo using Illustrator.

A spiritual montage involving three different images masked together with text and layering.

Communication 130 Section 5

Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message.Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks.Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image. Apply typography principles. Select good quality images.

I began my finding my pictures from websites online linked to pinterest and google. I started with an 11 x 8.5 document and put on my picture of Christ. I brought the saturation down to bring in neutral tones and lighter colors. I then cut out the scripture block and brought it over, masking it and outlining around Christ so it seemed as though a background of Him. I faded it at the bottom to look more professionally masked. I added one texture with a rust look to it, and I put it over the entire design and brought the opacity down and left the edges harder to give a vignette feel. I then added in my text and brought it down in the left corner to play off the rule of thirds.

LetterheadA letterhead design for a cosmetics company, Katemay.

Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Communication 130 Section 5

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image, not imitating any old logos created. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a letterhead. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Apply typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space. Include contact information.

I went for repeating circles in threes to appeal to the eye. I put an asymmetrical pattern on the letterhead. I chose a complimentary color scheme and chose a hue of pink and lighter green. I created a watermark on my letterhead of the logo and brought the opacity down to 4%.

Business CardA business card design for a cosmetics company, Katemay.

I used Adobe Illustrator to create my logos and pictures, and then copied them over and placed them in Adobe InDesign. I went for repeating circles in threes to appeal to the eye. I put an asymmetrical pattern on the letterhead. I brought each of the longer portions of the letters down onto the other side of my business card and brought the opacity down to 15% to make it look like the letters continuously go through. I chose a complimentary color scheme and chose a hue of pink and lighter green. I created a watermark on my letterhead of the logo on the front of the business card and brought the opacity down to 4% to make it readable.

Event Ad

Objective

Process

1.31.2015

Ad to promote the annual Model Runway Event for East Idaho.

Microsoft Word

Communication 130 Section 5

I scanned in a picture from “Time” Magazine of Jessica Alba at 300 pi/in. I went with a blue monochromatic color scheme and chose to create a circle on the right side to bring in some shape in the picture. I put most of the information in alignment on the circle and created two rectangles at the bottom- one dark blue and one transparent blue over- to bring in another shape and more information regarding the event.

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together). Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience. Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

WebpageA webpage designed to describe my process of creating a logo.

Notepad++, CSS, Adobe Photoshop

3.14.2015

Communication 130 Section 5

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. Include all required tags. Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. Change at least the following: The h1 text color & h1 background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, font families and add at least one css comment. Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.

I chose to keep the exact color scheme of the teal and pink and light grey that I have in my logo. I used Notepad++ to code out the entire HTML and CSS. I created a table with the logo on the left and my first description on the right, and then in HTML I created a new class within the table. This allowed me to be able to put an outline around just the description on the right and not on my logo. I chose to do the dotted border to add to the repetition of the circles in my logo. I used Adobe Photoshop to pick the colors directly from my logo using the eyedrop tool and took the code of those colors to put into the CSS style.

A photodesign project incoporating both photography skills and skills in Photoshop and with color schemes.

Adobe Photoshop

2.10.2015

Communication 130 Section 5

Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers. Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.5×11 page layout. Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

I captured a long-distance shot of the piano keys with cut up hearts that I placed on different keys. I played around with the levels in Photoshop to bring in more contrast and lighten the keys and darken the black piano. I changed the color of the reflections of the window so it fit with my color scheme more. I chose one of my favorite piano quotes to go along with the photograph, and I created different sized rectangles to add shapes to put with my caption. I decided to do my color scheme in the upper right hand corner of the piano, so all the colors could be seen against the black.

LogosThree logos promoting Katie Anderson Photography.

Adobe Illustrator

2.21.2015

Communication 130 Section 5

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.

I began by sketching out different designs and picking my favorite ones to play around with. I chose to do three separate target audiences for each of my logos, and based on that I picked coordinating color schemes and fonts. I wanted the word “photography” incorporated in each of my designs. I then decided to create shapes in the form of initials for my last design, and separated the shapes out by the “divide” and “minus” tool under the pathfinder window. I used the eyedrop tool to bring in all the same colors so it all matched up.

FlierA black and white flier to promote students graduating to attend the Graduate Leadership Conference.

Adobe InDesign

1.24.2015

Communication 130 Section 5

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

I sketched out four possible designs with differente emphases on certain messages of the flier. I went with a rectangular repetition scheme, bringing out more black squares and rectangles through borders of pictures and words. I contrasted white letters with black backgrounds to put more emphasis on the title of the flier. I focused on the word “leadership” on my title by spreading out the letters and spacing differently between the rest of the words. I kept a small body copy and made the date, time, and place a larger font size to catch the eye of the reader to know the information.
