The TCL European Data Centre Price Tracker is a subscription service published once every 3 months (January, April, July & October) and provides average rack space pricing for 14 European Countries (including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain Sweden, Switzerland and the UK). To date some 35 editions have been published.

The European Data Centre Price Tracker uses updated pricing information from TCL’s database based on 151 Data Centre providers with 227 facilities and includes over 420 price points.

It provides aggregated average pricing for Carrier Based & Carrier Neutral Data Centre segments and an overall Country Average tracked year on year with historical pricing trends since April 2007.

It also tracks key Data capacity developments since 2009 - with average growth of almost 8,200 m2 in new Data Centre space per month over the past six year period.

The main changes by Data Centre Country Market Czech Data Centre pricing – 2 Czech Data Centre average pricing over the last

quarter period has increased by Euro €22 per month from Euro €535 per month to Euro €557 per month – a increase of 4 per cent in pricing for the last Quarter period – currency exchange rates have remained constant over the period.

The increase in Czech Republic average Data Centre pricing has been in part due to the introduction of high cost bundles – with higher pricing being imposed by selected providers.

Average Czech Republic Data Centre pricing has fluctuated with a huge range of rack space pricing - from Euro €185 per month up to Euro €834 per month.

Year on Year average Czech Republic Data Centre rack space rates have increased by 9 per cent - from Euro €513 per month (October 2014) up to Euro €557 per month (October 2015).

Swiss Data Centre average pricing over the last quarter period has fallen by Euro €60 per month from Euro €1,196 per month to Euro €1,136 per month – a decrease of 5 per cent in average monthly rack space pricing for the last Quarter period.

The decrease in Swiss average Data Centre pricing has been in large part due to the devaluation of the Swiss Franc against the Euro, with the Swiss Franc declining over the last quarter by 3.8 per cent – which accounts for some three-quarters of the quarterly decrease in pricing over the period.

Data Centre pricing has also declined in part due to the launch of new low cost Data Centre facilities such as DataHub (Winterthur) for CHF 790 (Euro €731) per month per rack.

Year on Year average Swiss rack space Data Centre rates has increased by 4 per cent - from Euro €1,119 per month (October 2014) up to Euro €1,174 per month (October 2015).

UK Data Centre average pricing over the last quarter period has decreased by Euro €27 per month - from Euro €1,174 per month to Euro €1,201 per month – an decrease of more than 2 per cent over the period.

Selected UK Data Centre pricing has increased over time as a result of the introduction of higher specification facilities. But the average price levels in the UK are being affected by the introduction of discounted pricing with new Data Centre facilities – which are also suppressing average market rates.

Pricing for UK Data Centres has also been affected by currency fluctuations, with the GBP falling by almost 4.2 per cent over the last quarter against the Euro (from GBP 0.71/Euro to GBP 0.74/Euro) accounting for all of the average Data Centre price increase during the last Quarter period.

Although year on year average UK Data Centre rack space rates (from October 2014 to October 2015) has increased by 5 per cent over the period - in GBP terms UK Data Centre rack space price levels remain constant.


New Data Centre raised floor space growth from July 2009 until October 2015 – in square metres

Data Centre capacity continues to be built out across the 14 country markets in Europe with an emphasis on Carrier Neutral, Wholesale & Premium Data Centre capacity in all of the key markets.

Average space in the 14 Country Markets is being built out at a rate of almost 8,200 square metres per month (based on the 6 year monthly average).

Changes in the 14 Country Market average rack space prices year on year (in per cent)

For the year to October 2015 - some 11 out of the 14 Country Markets has seen an increase in average rack space pricing, the main increase (Switzerland) has been in part due to a depreciation of the Swiss Franc against the Euro, with the UK also seeing an increase in Euro terms - in large part due to currency fluctuations.

Average Data Centre pricing in the 14 countries surveyed is broken into 5 tiers, with the Euro 1,100+ tier (Denmark, Switzerland & the UK) followed by Ireland, then the Euro 800-900 tier (the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, France & Portugal), the Euro 700-800 tier (Italy, Sweden, Germany & Spain) & the Euro sub-600 tier (the Czech Republic).
