Welcome Message Dear Perioperative Colleagues,
On behalf of EORNA and its Organising Committee, it is a great
pleasure for us to invite you to attend the 9th biennial congress of the
European Operating Room Nurses Association. The congress will be
held in The Netherlands in the beautiful city of The Hague from 16 to 19
May 2019. It will be a great moment bringing together all committed
nurses, leaders and perioperative professionals.
The scientific programme will offer delegates a wide range of innovative
and interesting topics, with oral presentations, poster sessions and
workshops. During the last congress held in Greece in 2017, EORNA
welcomed delegates from over 40 countries. It is a huge opportunity
to learn and to share knowledge with colleagues from around the world.
The first call for abstracts will be in January 2018.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands, also called Holland, is famous for
many things such as tulips, architecture, windmills, famous painters
like Rembrandt, Van Gogh and many others. You will discover the
international city of The Hague with its longstanding buildings where
its history was forged, and a modern, world-class architecture.
The Hague is the third largest city in the Netherlands, the residence of
the Royal Family, the seat of the Dutch government and the city of
storks. The stork appears on the coat of arms and the logo of the
municipality. The Hague is also an international city of peace and justice.
The congress theme is “ON THE MOVE”. With this title we indicate
that our profession is constantly moving forward to enhance
perioperative care, with more advanced technology for quality and
safety of patient care in operating theaters. All these developments
require the attention and commitment of the entire surgical team.
Besides that, it is not only the operating room environment which is
moving, but also the world around us. Thus, we know how essential it
is to have up-to-date knowledge and to be prepared for any
eventuality.
The Dutch Association LVO is very proud to host the 9th EORNA
Congress in The Netherlands and to organise a warm welcome for
all delegates.
We are sure to offer you a fantastic and unforgettable congress.

Congress Run
The Congress Run will take place on Friday, 17 May 2019 at 7:00 am
before the sessions start. All delegates, family and friends are welcome!
The run consists of a warming up of about 6 minutes, a dynamic
workout, the course and a final stretch.
The entrance fee is 5 EUR (including a t-shirt) and will be donated to
Juliana‘s Children‘s Hospital, The Hague.
Hospital Visits
On Saturday morning, 18 May 2019, delegates will have the possibility
to visit two of the three hospitals of the Haaglanden Medisch Centrum
(HMC) free of charge: HMC Antoniushove and HMC Bronovo. A bus
transfer will be organised.
HMC operates in the heart of Haaglanden from 3 locations:
HMC Antoniushove, HMC Bronovo and HMC Westeinde.
HMC is a top clinical hospital. This means they also provide complex
care, in addition to basic care. They are specialised in:
• Highly complex acute care
• Oncological care
• Female and pediatric care
• Elderly care
• Infectious diseases
Acute careHMC has an Accident&Emergency at two locations: HMC Bronovo and
HMC Westeinde, both of which have recently been renovated.
Oncological careMost of their care for cancer patients takes place at HMC Antoniushove.
Female and pediatric careThey have HMC Westeinde’s birth clinic or the delivery rooms of HMC
Bronovo. The facilities are comparable.
The OR’s in all the locations are recently renovated.

The EORNA Congress 2019 is taking place in World Forum. World Forum
is an international conference venue located in The Hague between the
city centre and the beach.
World Forum was officially opened in 1969 and was originally known
as het Nederlands Congresgebouw. The opening was attended
by dignitaries including His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard of the
Netherlands. The building was designed by architect Jacobus Johannes
Pieter Oud in the style of Dutch functionalism, which was ultramodern in
the 1960s.
Het Nederlandse Congresgebouw became extremely well known
internationally as the venue for the North Sea Jazz Festival from 1976
through 2005. Artists such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton
and Candy Dulfer performed at the venue. Other leading world figures
including Neil Armstrong, Kofi Annan, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton and
Barack Obama also spoke at large top-level international conferences
held at World Forum.
