The support frame is made ofangular metal profiles andstandard profiles. There are threebore holes at different heights forthe lower linkage. As an extra,Amazone offers a quick-couplingsystem with a coupling triangle.The sprayer is parked on castors.The frame also comprisesextendable stands to prevent theparked sprayer from tipping over.The tanks with a nominal volumeof 1500 l (UF 1501) and 1800 l(UF1801) are made ofpolyethylene.

Description of sprayer

The level indicator has an indirectscale (floating rod with indicatorscale) on the front left (scalegraduations of 50 l). The volumeof liquid in the tank is alsodisplayed by the on-boardcomputer, AMATRON+. The tankcan be filled either using the fillingopening (405 mm innerdiameter) or otherwise, via anoptional filling connection (Kam-lok coupling on the left side of thesprayer).

The plant protection product isintroduced either via the tankopening for filling on the top ofthe sprayer or the induction bowlon the left. The induction bowl ismade of polyethylene with acircular rinsing pipe and three flatfan nozzles for introducing theproduct and also for rinsing offany product residues on the sidesof the bowl.The induction bowl is equippedwith a spring-loaded rotatingrinsing nozzle for cleaning theproduct cans. For cleaning theoutside of the sprayer, a specialcleaning set is available as an ex-tra, consisting of a hose drum with1/2“ hose and a spray gun. Thehose drum is situated behind thesprayer on the boom support. Itis activated by a 5-way ball valveat the operating controls.

This model has decentralisedcontrols comprising electromotivesection valves on the boomsupport, pressure regulationvalve (flow distribution regulatorwith fixed settings for cross-distribution) on the left of thesprayer and two flow meters inthe pressure and reflux pipe, andthe operator terminal,AMATRON+, with a job counter(on the boom frame). The entiresprayer is controlled by theoperator terminal (hydraulics andspray functions).

The tractor must be equipped witha connection for hydraulicpressure and a free reflux.In addition, the AMATRON+ Ter-minal gathers specific data on therespective application andprocesses these. It also hasaccess to other special functions.AMATRON+ calculates the currentspeed, application rate (l/ha), theremaining distance until the tankis empty, the actual contents level,the spray pressure and the po-wer take-off shaft speed (optio-nal). The spray pressure isdisplayed both manually using alarger pressure gauge at the frontof the sprayer and electronicallyvia a pressure sensor. This takesaway the pressure directly in frontof the section valves. A largegraphic-compatible display makesentering the data for the operatoreasier with its four menus („job“,„machine data“, „set-up“ and„operation“) before beginningwork or operating the sprayer inthe spray setting.

The functions of the sprayer arecontrolled in the menus by so-called „soft keys“ (switches withvarying functions).

Spray booms for UF sprayers.Q-plus series: this boom folds atthe back and is available in theoperating width dimensions 12m, 12.5 m and 15 m. It is onlypossible to adjust the standardversion of the Q-plus boom todifferent terrains via the boomsuspension.

and dampers whichcompensate for hori-zontal and verticalmovements of theboom.

Both series have incommon that theboom construction ismade of welded steelplate profiles.The boom is foldedand unfolded via theoperator terminalAMATRON+ from the

tractor cab. Once the boom hasbeen released from its transportposition and the appropriatefolding function has beenselected, the boom is unfoldedand folded by a series of hydraulicfunctions which are automaticallytriggered.The Q-plus booms have singlenozzle bodies which are clampedto the boom. The Super-S boomsare equipped with single andmulti-nozzle bodies which arefixed to the boom with stainlesssteel screws.All nozzle bodies have diaphragmreflux valves and bayonet caps(TeeJet system). Alternatively,the operator can order the boomwith a pressure circulationsystem. The circulation pipe isactivated by closed boomsections and ensures that thespray liquid is distributed evenly.

There is no slope compensationsystem included; this ishowever optional and can beordered. Springs and shockabsorbers contribute to aneffective pendulum suspensionbehaviour. Alternatively, a boomfrom the Super-S series can beused. These booms are foldedvertically and are available in theoperating widths 15, 18, 20, 21,24, 27 and 28 m. The Super-Sboom has a central pendulumsuspension.Slope compensation is effectedeither by electro-spindle driveor hydraulically and activated bya switch on the AMATRON+. Theposition of the boom (horizontalor at an angle) can be seen onthe graphic display. The Super-S boom is connected to thesupport frame using springs

The 15 m boom from the Q-plusseries was tested. Like all theother booms in this series, it ishydraulic and folded at the back.The hydraulic control valves arepositioned on the boom. Theboom is attached to thependulum frame of the sprayer-via a lifting frame. The pendulumframe has a pendulum range ofup to 14 ° to the horizontal. It isnot possible to adjust thependulum effect to sloping terrain(centrally pivoted suspensionsystem). Springs on the sides ofthe pendulum frame keep theboom parallel to the sprayer.Horizontal shocksare compensatedfor and absorbed bysprings and rubberelements andvertical shocks viathe heightadjustment springsand shockabsorbers. For thistype of boom,plastic hoses withfabric ply and aninterior diameter of15 mm and a wallthickness of 3.5 mmare used for the pressurised pipesystem.Amongst other parts, the 15 mboom was tested for the Super-S series. It folds vertically andhydraulically as all booms in theseries do. The hydraulic

control valves are situated onthe boom frame. The boom isattached to the pendulum framevia a lifting frame. The pendulumframe has a pendulum range ofup to 8 ° to the horizontal. Theelectric slope compensation via

spindle drive isactivated using aswitch on the on-board computerand ensures slopecompensation upto a gradient of 18%. On thecontrary, the 18 mSuper-S boomhas hydraulic slopecompensation (upto 18 %). The 24m, 27 m and 28 mSuper-S boomshave a pendulum range of 10 °due to their larger operatingwidths and can compensate forgradients of up to 14 %.

Assessment

The conclusion of the test wasthat all ENTAM test requirementsare fulfilled.There are three bore holes ofvarious sizes for assembling thelower links. This makes itpossible to adjust the position formounting the sprayer to therespective tractor. Alternatively,Amazone can offer a quickcoupling system with a couplingtriangle. The sprayer has wheelsfor transport. However, due to theweight and dimensions of thesprayer, it is difficult for oneperson alone to move it, and itcan only be moved on even andhard surfaces. Care must betaken due to the weight of thesprayer when the tank is full thatthe front of the tractor issufficiently ballasted and that theaxles and tyres are able to copewith the load.The spray tank is made ofpolyethylene. It is sufficientlysmooth on the inside and outsideand is rounded off well in general.Both the sump area and thebottom of the tank have anadequate cant so that the tankcan be used until it is completelyempty. The filling hole is adequatein size and the tank lid sealsproperly. For filling, in addition toa kamlok clutch on the left side -for a suction hose - the sprayerhas a swivelling induction bowl

with lid, circular pipe system andcontainer rinsing nozzle. Afterswivelling out the induction bowlit is easily accessible and can(when the sprayer is semi-mounted in normal transportposition) be filled comfortably atan opening height of approx. 85cm. If the filling connection on theside is used, the sprayer can befilled with a pump capacity of upto 265 l/min. Care must be takenthat only filling hoses with refluxvalves are used. Alternatively, themanufacturer can also offerfilling connections with a Storzclutch for filling via hydrants.

Thanks to its favourable shape,the tank has no protrudingrecesses and can be cleaned wellon the inside due to the standardrotating cleaning nozzle. Both thetank volume indicator scales andthe electronic display aresufficiently accurate. With anoversize of 15.1 % (UF 1501) /8.3 % (UF 1801), the tanks havesufficient reserves for any foamwhich may occur. The mountedinjection agitator is effective. Theagitator capacity can be set tovarious speeds via a valve (returnflow from the self-cleaningpressure filter). To avoid largeamounts of residues, both theagitator and the return flow to thetank can be switched off.

The clean water tank which ispositioned underneath the spraytank is easily accessible for filling(on the right) and the 190 lvolume is adequate. The cleanwater tank is connected so thatthe pipes, pump and boom canalso be rinsed when the spraytank is full. Clean water can alsobe fed through the optionalexterior cleaning system,including the spray gun and hosereel.

The spray boom is extended andfolded using Amatron+ via ahydraulic sequence functionwhich is control led bycorresponding hydraulic valves onthe boom. The operator merelyhas to extend the boom from itstransport position and select thefolding function.

The Super-S booms have acentrally pivoted suspensionsystem. Slope compensation isachieved either by electric spindledrive or hydraulically driven andactivated by a switch on theAmatron+. The position of theboom (horizontal or inclined) canbe seen very clearly on thegraphic display. The Super-Sbooms are connected to thesupport frame by springs ainddampers which compensateeffectively for horizontal andvertical shocks. Alternatively, theboom is available with a pressurecirculation system (DUS). Thiscirculation system is activatedwhen the valve sections areclosed and ensures an evendistribution of the spray liquid.This means that the ful lconcentration of spray fluid isimmediately available to thenozzles before they are evenswitched on.

The Q-plus booms are somewhatsimpler as far as the constructionof the pendulum frame isconcerned. The centrally pivotedsuspension system can only beadjusted to a limited extent todifferent use conditions. Slopecompensation is not included asa standard but is available as anextra. However, springs andshock absorbers make for anadequate pendulum suspensionsystem.

The continuous circulation meansthat sedimentation is avoided andit is much easier to clean thesprayer following operation. Thecirculation system can beswitched off if necessary.Pressure build-up and release isrelatively fast. Up to a width of20 m the booms have 5 spraysections each. The 21 m Super-S boom is available either with 5or 7 boom sections. The 24 mboom always has 7 sections andthe 27 or 28 m booms have either7 or 9 sections. The boomsections are never wider than 4.5m (the Super-S 21 m boom has5 sections and the Super-S 27 has7 sections). The nozzles areprotected against damage by theboom construction which is madeof angular sheet steel. Analuminium pipe on the endelement of the boom offers thenozzles extra protection fromtouching the ground. The endelement is also flexible and is builtto avoid obstacles to the front andthe back. The nozzles can beexchanged quickly and withoutthe need for addit ionaladjustment aids through the useof multi-nozzle bodies withbayonet caps.

Using the terminal, both the flowof liquid can be switched offquickly and the pressure adjustedrapidly. The integrated control unitalso makes it possible to apply thespray depending on the respectivespeed. Changes such as openingand closing section valves, speedchanges within the same gear orchanging gears are compensatedfor rapidly by the control unit. Thedescription of the control unit, theon-board computer and theircalibration is clear and detailed.Before using for the first time,and also several times during theseason, the accuracy of the flowmeter should be checked andcalibrated anew if necessary.

Safety Tests

The sprayer is equipped withsafety pictograms (stickers) onthe sprayer and operatinginstructions in the operator’s na-tive language, which include furt-her safety information. Thesprayer carries a CE-mark and avehicle identification plate.

The CE-mark shows that theproduct fulfils the requirementsdefined for the respective EC-directives and that the supplierhas carried out the appropriateprocedures to achieve conformity.The CE-mark is placed on theequipment by the manufacturer.The manufacturer confirms bydoing so that the sprayer hasbeen designed and built inaccordance with harmonised ECDirective 98/37/EEC and thatstandard EN 907 has been met.

Explanation on testing:Testing takes place according to the Technical Instructions forENTAM-Tests of Filed crop sprayers. This procedure was developedby the competent testing authorities of the European countriesparticipating in ENTAM and is based on the CEN standard EN 12761„Agricultural and forestry machinery – Plant protection equipment forthe application of plant protection products and liquid fertilisers“. Thistest is only a technical performance test which takes place withoutan accompanying field test. The test results apply only to the testedappurtenances of the sprayer. Statements on the behaviour of thesprayer with different appurtenances cannot be derived from theseresults.
