Ensemble Theatre presents  FRANKENSTEIN  By Nick Dear

16th ‐ 18th MAY Forced to survive in the real world, a man‐made creature soon loses his child‐like innocence and transforms into an adult being ‐ an adult with bitterness, lust, vengeance and deadly reasoning. The Creature is cast out by his creator (the young doctor Frankenstein) and unleashed upon the world. He is shunned for his grotesque appearance and spurned by society wherever he goes. When a blind man takes Frankenstein's monstrous creation under his wing and educates him, the Creature begins to question his existence and to yearn for a future without loneliness. His search for a lifelong partner brings him back to his maker, with vengeance foremost in his mind. Mary Shelly's classic tale is re‐imagined in this spine‐tingling new version of Frankenstein by British playwright Nick Dear. This astonishing adaptation was a huge hit for the National Theatre, London, in 2011 ‐ soon you'll know why. An exciting and exhilarating experience!

Wednesday 22 May 6:30-8:00pm Waurn Ponds Library 140 Pioneer Road The Rosie Project is the highly acclaimed debut novel by author Graeme Simsion. It’s a heady mix of comedy and romance, as academic Don Tillman sets out on a strategic quest to find himself a wife. Instead, he finds himself side-tracked by Rosie Jarman, who smokes, drinks, always arrives late and who is on her own quest, to find her biological father - a search that Don, a professor of genetics, might just be able to help her with. A classic screwball romance with a twist that asks why, despite your best scientific efforts, you don’t find love: love finds you? Don’t miss this chance to meet the author and hear him discuss his journey to publication and the flood of interest that this book has created around the world. Bookings essential via website www.grlc.vic.gov.au or phone on 5272 6010

Alick Tipoti + David Bosun + Glen Mackie Printmakers from the Torres Strait Islands

16 May – 1 June 2013

Zugubal 2006

Alick Tipoti, David Bosun and Glen Mackie are members of an important group of

contemporary Torres Strait Islander artists. Traditionally, small Islander audiences

experienced culture through storytelling and dance. Tipoti, Bosun and Mackie are

translating the knowledge and techniques derived from traditional skills as carvers

into a contemporary visual art form, based on the fine incising of complex narrative

images and symbolic pattern-making into linoleum blocks and printing onto archival

paper. Exhibitions like this give their culture a wider audience and exemplify the

strong contemporary linocut practice of the Torres Strait printmakers.
