Mission Statement

We, the parishioners of St. Anthony-Kalihi bonded in faith and love of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, give faithful witness to the love of Jesus

Christ in proclaiming the good news of salvation. We commit to the evangelization of the parish through spiritual renewal and formation. We promote justice, peace and respect for human life by caring and serving the poor, the sick and the needy. We firmly resolve to

further the mission for the glory and reign of God on earth.

Family Resources

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

• Nurturing growth and goodness is one way to overcome evil. Name the evil that you see in society around you. Discuss how you as a family can provide an example of kindness and how you can nurture growth in your neighborhood, school, parish, community, or world.

• Like the weeds and wheat in today’s parable, good and evil exist together in our world. Discuss the values in today’s world that might be considered weeds.

• The main concern of the landowner in this week’s Gospel is to nurture the growth of the wheat rather than to eliminate the weeds. Remind your children that you love them, even when you dislike their actions.

• Check the newspaper and magazines for examples of people who are doing good and overcoming evil. Talk about what is being done. Pray for these people.

Journal

• What is the most difficult part about being a Christian?

• Why is it difficult to be a

Christian? • What is one way you have had to

grow in the past year to become a better person? Was this challenging? Why? Was it worth it? Why?

• What is one way you need to grow

this coming month to become holier?

Challenge for the Week

Take ten minutes to write out a specific prayer asking God to help you grow this next year to become a better person. Pray this prayer every day this next week. LifeTeen Ascend

A Stewardship Moment Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s second reading, Saint Paul bids us to take comfort in knowing that when God invites us to pray to him, he knows our true needs, even if we do not. The Holy Spirit intercedes and prays for us even if we can’t come up with appropriate words; even when we don’t have a clue what to ask for. We are not left alone. Good stewards know that prayer is an important part of living a life in Christ. The important thing is to make space for God. Do we let God into our hearts? Do we make room for the Holy Spirit to pray within us? International Catholic Stewardship Council July e-bulletin
