"When I was 17, I decided to do my overseas study through

ELS. I couldn’t speak English well at the time.

The ELS class on campus had students from about 20

countries, speaking about 15 different languages. The ELS

teachers were very experienced in teaching these kinds of

students. By the end of the day, I’d be looking forward to going back the next day. After nine months, I received my

certificate from ELS.

I think I matured a lot through my experience at ELS and

university. At university, when I see my former ELS classmates

working hard and trying to achieve something big and pursue

their dreams, it makes me want to work hard too. I feel

grateful for these important friendships; they give me a lot

of motivation.

I’m majoring in biomedical engineering right now. I’m

planning to take a year off to do an internship to gain

experience working in a company and then apply for graduate

school. I want to learn more about the medical field and

then go and help people in my home country."

Ali, Yemen

ELS Graduate

Current California Lutheran University Student

NTNTELS WORKS.

"In 1976 I myself was a student at ELS in Oakland, California, and

since then, the English language has become an important part

of my daily life, helping me a lot in my duties as a doctor.

That is why when my kids Carlos and Ana Grecia were the

right age to leave Mexico in order to learn English, I did not hesitate to send them to ELS because I knew the quality and the prestige of your school.

My wife and I are happy to have left in your hands the

English learning of our youngsters.

You did a very good job because they both speak and

write the language very well, and it is helping them in their

professional careers. Please receive our appreciation!"

Dr. Arriola, Mexico

Former ELS Student

Parent of Current ELS Students

"The ELS Center in Garden City is a nice place not only for

studying English but also for learning different cultures. I

made a lot of friends who came from different countries such

as Turkey, Poland, and so on. Studying at ELS, experiencing

multiple cultures can help you understand America better.

After I graduate I plan to go to Adelphi University to study

Human Resources. My major requires high communication

skills with different people who may come from different

countries. ELS is the perfect stepping-stone to education in the USA."

Li, China

"Before I came to ELS, I had a problem, which was a lack of

self-confidence. All teachers and ELS staff have always assisted

me to express myself and to improve my English since my

first day. They are also smiling at all the students all the time.

Thanks to their help and my effort, day by day I overcame all my problems. In addition, every month ELS Berkeley

prepares a schedule of activities. I participated in most of

them, and they were very fun and helpful to make

conversation with people. If I had a chance to choose a language school, I would choose ELS again."

Celal, Turkey

"I’ve sent my kids through ELS English programs for several

years. It’s not only a language experience but also a lifetime experience. They get to learn from cultures of the

world and make friends for a lifetime. All admission paths are

taken care of, and that is a great help for a busy parent."

Catherine, Martinique

Parent of ELS Students

"There are no words to express all my gratitude to all the teachers and staff at ELS. When I arrived to the USA, I could

barely connect two sentences in English. Now, I am confident

about my skills and I’m able to express myself in ways that

I’m truly proud of. All the teachers and staff were ALWAYS

supporting me in my learning process. Day by day, I received all that I needed to succeed. Now my doctoral studies are

awaiting me at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and I

can’t wait to put into practice all that I’ve learned."

Juan, Colombia

ELS Graduate

Current University of California at Santa Cruz Student

"I definitely made a right decision when attending ELS school.

At school, I learned not only English but also American Culture. Both of them are very important to anyone who wants

to study in America. ELS teachers who are friendly to students

have helped me a lot even though I graduated. Personally, I

love the English Master program so much, although at first I felt

worried about my English just a little bit learning in the Master

class. Shortly after that, I enjoyed studying with the program

because it pushed me both to speak and write a lot. Not only

that, I completed a research paper with 10 pages, which helped

me get used to MBA classes in the university. I am now studying

in Louisiana Tech and do well in my classes."

Hoai, Vietnam

ELS Graduate

Current Louisiana Tech Student

"It was not hard for me to apply to community college,

because ELS helped me prepare all the documents. It did not

take me long to get used to it because I knew what I should

do to succeed from my ELS experience. In ELS, I met the best teacher I ever had. I was having a difficult time writing

my personal statements for my application to UC Berkeley,

but I asked her for help and she advised me whenever I had

problems. I think I would not have gotten into UC Berkeley

without her help. Another advantage of the ELS 2+2

community college system is that you save money if you go

to community college and then transfer."

Gim, Korea

ELS Graduate and Former Community College Student

Current UC Berkeley Student

"I was interested in pharmacoepidemiology. So I created a plan

to meet the English requirement for admission by laying out

how I would attend ELS on campus and prepare for the GRE.

They said yes to admitting me conditionally. ELS helped me a lot. ELS was not just for English, it was for everything. It was the best time of my life."

Ziyad, Saudi Arabia

ELS Graduate

Current University of Cincinnati Student

ACCESSIBLE AND SUPPORTIVE TEACHERS AND STAFF WHOSE FOCUS IS ON YOUBeing away from your home country, especially if it is for the

first time, brings with it excitement, adventure, discovery and

self-awareness. It can also bring the challenges that come from

being in an unfamiliar place, apart from family and friends.

The faculty and staff at every ELS Center are warm, friendly,

welcoming people who understand that you are a person as

well as an English language student. Their goal is to ensure

your success, offering care, patience and diligence.

WELCOME TO OUR CENTERS!“I work intensively with students on their critical thinking,

questioning, reading, writing and presentation skills, preparing

them for research writing at the university level. It has been

my joy and privilege to travel with them on their journey

and to reconnect with them once they are in college. It is

gratifying that they fondly recall being in my class because it

helped prepare them to be successful in their undergraduate

or graduate writing.”
