HoistGroupandHand inHand India (HIH)entered intoaMemorandumofUnderstanding(MOU) through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project to support elimination ofchild labour by running Residential Special Training Centre (RSTC) for child labourers andlong-time dropouts and to implement Social Mobilisation Program (SMP) in RK Pet,ThiruttaniandPallipetblocksofThiruvallurDistrict.
ProjectObjectives
HoistGroupprojectwillfocusonthefollowingobjectives:
• To run a Residential Special Training Centre (RSTC) for child labourers and long-timedropoutsbetween6-14yearsofage
• To ensure that every child is enrolled in school and continues to go to school in theprojectblocks

Out of the 64 children, 44 children have been mainstreamed into regular GovernmentSchools and20 children are continuing in RSTC. From44 children,26 students (Boys–11,Girls–15)wereenrolledintoschoolsproximaltotheirhomes,while18othershailingfrom

Group Motivation Meetings are an unique Hand in Hand India interventionwhereinthetargetgroupchildrenwhohavebeenidentifiedinthecommunitybyHiHIndiastaffareinvitedforaconversationalongwithkeystakeholders–theirparents, school teacher(s), Child Rights Protection Committee (CRPC)Membersandcommunityelders.
AttheseOutreaches,thechildrenareencouragedinvariousways–motivatedtoenvision their life in the long run with education, given career-counseling -informedofschemesandbenefits,courses,careeroptions,tie-upsandguidelines.Positiverolemodelsarealsoinvitedtointeractwiththemfromtheircommunity–their peers who are now gainfully employed after successfully resuming theireducationviaTransitSchools.
familiesbelongingtoverypoorsocio-economicconditionswereenlistedintoGovernment-runfreeHostels.The CLEP field staff regularly track the performance of the mainstreamed students andinteractwiththeirteachersatrecurringintervalstogaugetheirscholasticprogress.OwingtotheeffectiveSocialMobilizationProgrammestrategyatTiruvallur, thefieldstaff iswellawareofthestudent’sfamilycircumstancesandsocioeconomicstatus.

MedicalCampandHealthAwareness:
As part of regular healthmonitoring of the children, themonthly medical camp was heldat Kaverirajapuram RSTC on 11thApril,2017toensuregoodhealthof every student and staffmember in the campus. Themedical camp is one of the keyinitiativesaimedatenhancingtheoverall health of the students. AGeneral health check-up wasconducted by doctors and those
detectedwithhealthissueswerereferredtolocalhospitals.Medicinesandspecialattentionwas given to those who were unwell. Overall, 75 students benefitted from this medicalintervention.
AnnualDayCelebrationsandParents’Meeting:
The Annual Day Celebrations of Kaverirajapuram RSTC was held on 24th April 2017. Thiseventhasasingularfocus:toencouragestudentsandbuildtheirinterestineducation.
TheChiefGuest fortheprogrammewasMs.Sangeetha(DCPO).Otherattendees includedCWC members, parents and HiH India staff. New clothes & gifts were given to all thestudents and sweets were distributed at the end of the programme. 150 individualsparticipatedandwerebenefittedbytheprogramme.
Parents present were exhorted to continue supporting their children in their academicpursuits. Theacademicprogress andholistic developmentopportunitiesof the students -their education, grooming, manners, extra-curricular activities among others was alsoexpoundedtotheparentstoenablethemtomotivatetheirchildrentowardseducation.

InternationalYogaDay
Yoga has proven healthbenefits including bothphysical and mentaldevelopment, stressreductionandoverallwell-being. ‘International YogaDay’ was consequentlycommemorated on 21stJune 2017 inKaverirajapuram RSTC topromote the art ofpracticing yoga and forphysical fitness. Severalasanaswereperformedduringthesessionandthechildrenenthusiasticallyparticipatedintheprogramme.53childrenbenefittedfromthisprogramme.

Block level Child Protection CommitteeMeetings were held on 11th April, 2017 in threeblocks namely Thiruthani, R K Pettai and Pallipat. In thesemeetings, awareness on ChildMarriagewasdiscussedinallthethreeblocks.Mr.Senthil(DCPO)wastheChiefGuestforthe programmes. Other distinguished members who were part of this programme wereBDOs,AEOs,SWDmembers,SSASupervisorsandHiH Indiastaff.Overall87ofthemwerebenefittedfromtheseprogrammes.

The Gram Sabha which is the foundational self-governance unit of the Panchayati Rajsystem as envisioned under the Constitution of India, comprises of elected members,typicallyformedinvillagesorgroupsofvillageswithapopulationthatisatleast/exceeding1500persons.GramSabhaMeetingsaremandatorytobeorganisedatthevillage levelatperiodic intervals. These are significant meetings that are attended by the entire village
