DESCRIPTION

Overview: This slide deck captures a brief comparison of media outlets visualizing election data across an interactive US map. UX: The best desktop UX was offered by Huffington Post as their data tooltips provided the most pertinent information via mouse over. Clicking through, each state page provided loads of data including results for Ballot questions and a secondary navigation to toggle to other states. The cleanest UX was offered by Google which did the best job of displaying 3rd party candidate election results. However, their election data seemed to lag a couple minutes behind other media outlets. Data: These 8 organizations were pulling data from several sources, including: AP, Ballotpedia, National Conference of State Legislatures, Brenner Center for Justice. As you view the screenshots, you will notice that real-time election data (electoral/popular vote) displayed inconsistently across these organizations within my survey of a 2-3 minute window. I assume this is because some sites were organically populating data and others were curating it? Even now a whole 24 hours after the election, Politico's electoral/popular vote totals are different than others. Slide deck (in no particular order): 1.)
