The recent bullish trend in the number of police arrests has set a new record for the year we have just left. The

Police Corps made a total of 1,055 arrests during 2019, a 3.6% increa-se on the previous year. In this way, the number of arrests reached the highest level in the last seven years - since the Police Department has ac-cumulated data to compile the Se-curity Statistics.

Although for the first 15 weeks of the year arrests went up to 41% com-pared to the same period in 2018, statistics have stabilized for the re-mainder of 2019. The months with the highest arrests were January (122), March (105) and December (104), coinciding with the highest peaks in tourism. Depending on the type of arrests, these 1,055 arrests were broken down into 496 traffic safety offenses (47%), 356 crimes classified as «other» (33.8%), 179 pu-blic health offenses (16 , 9%) and 24 heritage crimes (0.03%).

TRAFFIC SAFETY OFFENSES / In relation to traffic safety offenses, driving un-der the influence of alcohol or nar-cotics was the main cause of the ar-rests. Of particular note are the 59 arrests made in July and the 60 ar-rests in December for drunken or drugged drivers as a result of cam-paigns for alcohol and drug preven-tive controls. As a record figure for 2019, last February a 33-year-old An-dorran resident gave a positive re-sult of 3.10 g / l after crashing his car in La Massana.

In fact, in the week between July 22 and 28, the body of order detai-ned up to 23 people to test positive behind the wheel, coinciding with the major festivals of Escaldes-En-gordany and Sant Julià de Lòria . In-deed, one of the loudest episodes oc-curred during Lauredian festivals, which ended with five young peo-ple detained - two of whom remai-ned in temporary detention - for multiple riots.

OTHER CRIMES / With regard to the ca-tegory of other crimes, one of the most media detentions was the one of the inmate who escaped from the La Comella prison center on Octo-ber 29, by which the body of Police had to activate Operation Cage. Li-kewise, the arrest of the Secretary General of the Andorran Football Federation (FAF), Tomás Gea, and the then President, Victor Santos, within the framework of the Opera-ció Cautxú May 7.

With regard to crimes against public health, the cases that raised the most dust are those related to drug possession in smuggling to-bacco. As an example, the arrest of three young residents who formed an organized network of marijuana introduction and sale in the Princi-

pality is worth remembering. Wit-hin the framework of the so-called Elite operation, police confiscated 6.5 kilos of marijuana and 1,765 eu-ros in tickets on March 26.

As for crimes against heritage, the most well-known arrest was the one carried out by the former Presi-dent of the Tutelar Foundation, Da-vid Claverol, following a complaint of appropriation of € 23,000 in fun-ding, which is why the Public Prose-cutor’s Office imposed a search and capture warrant for him.

POLICE ASSESSMENT FOR THE LAST WEEK / As a result of the first police assess-ment of the year, a total of 18 peo-ple were detained. Most significant, on January 1, police detained a non-resident woman and man, 39 and 26, respectively, as suspected perpe-trators of a domestic abuse offense. The man was also charged with cri-minal mischief of damages. Police were requested at a hotel in Escal-des-Engordany, after being notifi-ed of mutual aggression, and upon arriving at the scene, police reali-zed that the man had also caused damage to the property. the hotel room. 33 The Spanish ambassador, Àngel Ros.

@PeriodicAND

The Spanish ambassador to the Principality, Àngel Ros, hopes that an investiture of Pedro Sánchez as Presi-

dent of the Spanish Government will allow the cross-border dossiers between the Principality and Ma-drid to be relaunched. The diplo-matic representative is confident that the leader of the PSOE will be elected today in a second ballot in the Congress of Deputies, where he will need a simple majority (mo-re votes for him). In any case, gi-ven the fine majority so far the in-cumbent Spanish President can ac-hieve - with 167 votes in favor, 165 against and 18 abstentions - Ros is cautious but at the same time op-timistic about today’s vote in the Spanish capital and what it could mean for bilateral relations with Andorra.

Hours before the vote were mar-ked by right-wing parties’ attempts to influence Socialist MPs to pro-test against the coalition govern-ment with United Podemos, which among others will receive votes in favor of GNP and abstentions from ERC and Bildu. «There are issu-es that cannot be addressed when there is a functioning government, because it can only do certain for-malities, and new projects cannot be started,» says Ros, who believes that if the investiture of Pedro is fi-nally consumed, Sánchez will be

In addition, the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Ibe-ro-American Summit will be held this year. «The partnership in Eu-rope will mark a great future for the relations between Spain and Andorra, which are now excellent, but within a framework of partner-ship they will only increase,» says Ros, who said in installments for the GPS application, scheduled for spring, everything goes as planned.

NO CONDITION / In any case, Àngel Ros comments that the promotion of

María Moliner resumes classes waiting to regain normality

The María Moliner College will re-sume classes today waiting for a firm deliberation from the Batllia on the teacher reported for alle-ged child abuse. The man, who is on probation since December 24, cannot return to school because he has a stay-away order until the-re is a final decision.

The Spanish ambassador to the Principality, Angel Ros, says that now it is necessary that the relevant investigations have been completed and that if they prove that nothing has happened, «the teacher will ha-

ve to be helped to recover full nor-mality».

The representative is optimistic about how the case could end, as the Batllia decreed his provisional relea-se without bail or withdrawal of his passport. Ros explains that he can talk to the teacher after his release and hopes that the case will be filed and that he will be declared inno-cent.

The teacher, who had been in the Principality for a few months, has spent Christmas with his fa-mily. Ros, who hopes that the te-acher will go to court if required within the framework of the in-vestigation, values his professio-nalism and remembers that the presumption of innocence must always be preserved. «At the mo-ment it is being seen that it is out

there and I hope it works,» says Ros, who says «we need to respect Andorran jurisdiction, justice and maintain my confidence.»

The man was detained on De-cember 10 and locked up in a de-tention center for two weeks. As the investigation progressed, so-me of the complaining families removed the allegations about the teacher.

Police brought in computer equipment after the defendant was detained, with the purpose of analyzing the evidence collected in the search box. «The best news is that there have been no situati-ons of bullying or sexual violence in school.

I hope that the judicial process will now confirm it, «concluded Angel Ros. H

At the sa-me time, the Spanish ambassador claims that there are several com-panies interested in operating.

Regarding planned meetings on health, Ros hopes that a timetable can be made soon and at the same time states that there is «a determi-ned will to move them forward.»

Gerard Piqué’s FC Andorra is reac-hing one miles-tone after anot-her and is now in its best years. The club, after beating

UE Olot 1-0 and kicking Second Di-vision B on the table, finished the first lap of the competition in thi-rd position, with 34 points (nine wins, seven ties and three defeats), tied with CD Castellón, which is in second place. In the first position is the CE Sabadell, with only one more point.

In that sense, the tricolors clo-sed the third best lap of their his-tory because in the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons he managed to re-ach the equator of the course in the second position: in the first year they added 12 victories, four draws and three losses while the following year, 10 wins, five draws and four defeats. This means that

FC Andorra signs the third best first lap of its historyIn the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons, the tricolors reached the season’s equator in second place

FOOTBALL 3 SECOND DIVISION B

the Andorrans could have scored 40 and 35 points respectively, but at that time the wins had only two points.

Therefore, in the 1988-89 season they added 28 points, one less than Palamós CF, who was leader and finally reached the promotion to the Second Division. On the other hand, in the following year, those of the Principality occupied the sa-me position but with 25 points, to four of the leader, Lleida, a group that achieved the promotion to the silver category of national football.

In both respects, both were very good seasons, as if the promotion play-offs had been celebrated, FC Andorra would have played them. But they were different times and only the first place in each group went up in category. It was not un-til the 1990-91 season that the pro-motion system was introduced in which the four best in each group participated. But that year, the tri-colors were in eighth place, both at the end of the competition and at the end of the competition.

STRONG AT HOME / Although the draws are a little penalized, as the story goes, FC Andorra can be optimistic because the dynamics are very simi-lar. In the first leg of the 1988-89 se-ason they signed seven home wins, two draws and just one loss, while they won five away matches and ti-ed and lost two. On the other hand, in the first stretch of the season the following year, those in the Princi-pality added eight wins and two los-ses at home, while outside they ad-ded only two wins, five draws and two defeats. Thus, those in the Prin-cipality were the best home team in the first round, as did Gabri Gar-cía’s, who added one point more at home than Sabadell (24), as well as remaining unbeaten . In short, when the opponent is short of air at home, Andorra is encouraged.

OUTSTANDING SCORERS / In those years, Andorra also had outstanding sco-rers. In the 1989-90 season, unlike the previous year, Antonio Rueda was the second highest scorer in the competition with 15 goals, while the

previous year was 18th, with 10. This year, Ernest Forgas, with eight go-als, is the third highest scorer while Moussa Sidibè is 10th, with six.

THE PERMANENCE / Despite the bac-kground and the good dynamics, Gabri García does not want to talk about the play-offs. Yet. «We will ne-ver say that we are looking for the play-offs because our goal is to con-solidate in Second B and to compe-te next year,» he said, noting that «when we reach the points we beli-eve to be here, we can talk and see. where can we get to. ” «No one expec-ted this situation,» he emphasized. On the other hand, Nico Ratti, the go-alkeeper without whom Andorra is not understood, explained that «no-body expected to be with 34 points, to one of the leaders, tied with Cas-tellón, such a great set of the cate-gory. « «We are in a very sweet mo-ment and in a privileged place,» he said and assured that «we are all in a good dynamic and that is noticea-ble in the field, we want to continue like this».
