Role Play & Analysis - Preparation
• Objective: – Practicing difficult feedback in a safe environment in order to improve feedback
giving skills – Practicing giving and receiving feedback in 2 different environments – role play
and analysis• Preparation:
– Every participant reads written information about his/her role, which is either “a manager” or “an employee” (scenarios are worked out based on common situations)
– Every participant is asked to define his/her learning objective in terms of giving feedback that he/she would like to work on
– Preparation happens 2 times – first time every person receives one role, which is either “a manager” or “an employee”, second time every person receives a new role, which is opposite to the first role from a different scenario (meaning all managers now become employees and vice versa).

Role Play & Analysis - Performance
• Performance: • A pair performs in front of the room, others act as observers and
take notes• After every role play both “a manager” and “an employee” share
their feelings experienced during the exercise• Then a person, who was acting as a manager is welcomed to a
“warm seat “ – this means he/she asks the group one specific question related to his/her learning objective and the group (one by one) provide feedback answering this question
E.g. Learning objective: When giving feedback, support every judgment with at least 2 examplesQuestion posed to the audience: “What can I improve in terms of providing examples, when expressing my judgments to an employee?”
