INCREASING THE NUMBER OF WOMENIN ICT AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY ROLESWomen are under represented in ICT and digitaltechnology occupations across the sectors inScotland. Participation rates of females in theworkforce has declined over a ten-year period to2011 from 30% to 17% and the number of femaleacceptances onto ICT and digital technologiesrelated higher education courses have tended to besignificantly lower than for males. This represents apotential loss of talent to the sector. 5. LOOKING TO THE FUTUREJob growth is expected to be particularlyconcentrated in areas such as softwaredevelopment, software engineering andweb development - there has alreadybeen a 50% increase in demand forsoftware professionals over the last tenyears. 6.
