Principal’s Message DARE TO DREAM & ACT TO ACHIEVE 163 YEARS OF EDUCATION 1857 TO 2020 Eden Public School Term 3 Week 4 25 th August 2020 Respect Responsibility Resilience SASS recognition Week This week is SASS Recognition Week. SASS stands for school and administrative school staff and includes all those folk who work in schools who are not teachers. At Eden PS this is the office staff, the school learning and support officers who support students with additional learning needs, our Aboriginal Education officer, garden specialists and the general assistant. All these people play a very important role by taking care of numerous non-teaching responsibilities so that teachers can focus on the business of teaching and learning. We appreciate their work every week but it is good to take time in this week to reflect on the value of what they do to contribute to the quality of school life. This week Eden Public School is delighted to recognise the contributions of all of our SAS staff and thank them for their dedication, commitment and ongoing support. New COVID Guidelines Last week the Department of Education released updated advice regarding school programs and practices. The updates include: Parents and carers are reminded not to send children to school if unwell. If children have flu like symptoms (fever, sore throat, persistent cough, shortness of breath), parents are expected to have children tested for COVID-19, and self-isolate until results are received. Families will need to provide a copy of the negative COVID-19 test result before students return to school. To assist us, please specify the nature of your child’s illness when replying to school text and whether they are being tested when sending in absence notifications. The Department has put group singing activities, including choirs, and wind instruments (woodwind and brass) on hold for the rest of Term 3. Choir rehearsals will be cancelled, but individual tuition for instruments may continue. Thank you for your attention to the updated advice and for your ongoing support. Kids need good mental health - not only to be able to deal with challenges and adapt to change, but so they can feel good about themselves, build healthy relationships with others and enjoy life. There are plenty of things that can be done to improve mental health and help prevent mental health issues from developing. For example, getting enough sleep, eating well and doing regular physical activity is important for children, just as it is for adults. Longlasting, safe and secure relationships, such as with the child’s family (including extended family and carers), are considered the most influential factors in a child’s life. Mental health difficulties in children might present as frequent or intense struggles with their emotions, their thoughts, behaviours, learning or relationships. As a parent or concerned adult, there are some simple steps you can take to support a child’s mental health. These are things like taking an active interest in the child, encouraging them to talk about what’s happening in their life and being aware of changes in their behaviour. Seek support from your doctor or other health or mental health professional if you are concerned. Where to get help If you’d like to find out more, or talk to someone, here are some organisations that can help: Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 (telephone and online counselling for ages 5-25) Lifeline 13 11 14 Call Parentline in your state or territory for counselling and support for parents and carers eheadspace to chat online. P&C NEWS! Wednesday Raffle

This week (26/08) marks the start of our Wednesday Raffle! Normally this is one of our biggest fundraisers for the year, slowly but surely we have made around $2k a year in the past few years. It's been a year of false starts and upheaval but as we are nally back to some semblance of normality it's time to get it rolling. The P&C has not had much of a chance to fundraise this year, yet we are still supporting our school where we can. Any support you can give us will be much appreciated. Tickets are .20c each, with a maximum of 5 per student. If you have nominated to be on the roster to supply the prizes please check the listing in each fortnights newsletter, thank you!

Father’s Day

The Fathers Day Stall will not be running this year. Unfortunately trying to juggle the preparation and event around COVID-19 restrictions has proven to be a bit of a mission impossible. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Canteen News

A new menu will be issued this week, unfortunately with some price rises. The rising wholesale cost of some items and supplies, along with some issues in our supply chain have meant we have to purchase more expensive substitutes. Can we also ask that parents who place recess orders remind their children to come to the canteen to get their order as recess orders are not sent to the classroom. Thank you.
