    Students have been introduced and are able to identify the

    basic parts of a sentence (subject and predicate).

    Students know the proper usage of punctuation marks.

    Students are familiar with the basic functions of a digital

    camera and computer.

    Prerequisites:

    Teacher will show students a sample/model of the Fun

    Digital Sentences! assignment they will be doing.

    Teacher has received all Permission Forms to take photos of

    students in the class. (It is best to make sure all

    students are able to participate in this project without

    any obstruction before making it a class project. We

    do not want any student to feel left out because they

    cannot have their picture taken. Children are

    observant.)

    Teacher will have students practice writing simple and

    coherent sentences.

    Teacher will provide an opportunity for students to get

    familiar with using a digital camera; by having them practice

    taking pictures of items in the class.

    State Objectives1. Students will construct two complete sentences describing each of

    the 3 photos they take with a digital camera (6 complete

    sentences in total for the project).

    2. Students will utilize proper punctuation marks and spacing for the

    sentences they have written.

    3. Students will verbally read their constructed sentences using

    proper pronunciation and expression of punctuation marks.

    4. Students will utilize a digital camera to take 1 photo of themselves,

    and 2 photos of two items that are important or meaningful to

    them with the teachers assistance (3 photos in total).

    5. Students will record their voices speaking their constructed

    sentences they have made using the online website

    Utilizing Media:

    o Computer - Students will use the computer to access the

    Internet and create their Fun Digital Sentences!.

    o Computer Speakers- The computer speakers will be needed to

    playbackthe voice recordings of students reading and

    speaking their constructed sentences.5

    o Computer microphone- The computer microphone will be

    needed to recordstudents speaking and reading their

    constructed sentences.

    o Digital Camera with USB cable- Students will use the

    teachers digital camera to take pictures of themselves and

    two important/meaningful items to them. The USB cable is

    needed to uploadthe pictures onto the computer.

    The Teacher will take pictures of all students completed

    sentences.

    o Internet (Website) http://www.voicethread.com-

    Students will need to access the Internet and utilize the

    website http://www.voicethread.com. The teacher has the

    username and password for the class account. The website

    MUST be automatically logged on for the student to begin

    recording his/her sentences. (The student must not type in

    the address, username and password)

    o

    Projector- The teacher utilizes the projector toplayandpresentall the students individual digital sentence projects

    to the class when all students are done.

    Utilizing Materials:

    o Permission To take photo form; for parents- The teacher

    will need to create a permission form for the

    parents/guardians in order to take photos of the students in

    the class.

    o Two important items- Students will need to bring in two

    appropriate, important or meaningful items to take a picture

    of.

    o Art supplies (If needed)- Art supplies are only needed when a

    student is not able to bring in their two desired items or may

    not have any important or meaningful items. The student may

    draw the items without taking a picture of it if they are

    limited.

    o Pencils- Students will use pencils to write out the rough and

    final drafts of their sentences describing each picture they

    took.

    o Markers- Students will use markers to trace over their final

    draft of sentences.

    o Paper- Students will write their six completed sentences on

    paper.

    Utilizing Methods:

    o Engaged Learning-

    Students will be actively participating in this assignment.

    Students will be making decisions on what items they

    find meaningful, write two sentences about it, take

    individual photos of their peersand items they brought in.

    Students are also utilizing

    technology to explore their

    learning abilities with the

    assistance of the teacher.

    Introduction/Pre-assessment:

    The Teacher will:

    o (Day 1) Introduce the class project Fun Digital

    Sentences!; let the students know that they will need to

    have their parents sign the parent permission form to have

    their photos taken in the class.

    Let students know that they will need to bring in two

    items that are important or meaningful to them. (It is

    best to write all the required items down or attach a

    printed form of required materials in the student

    planners so they will not forget or misplace the

    information. Also attach the parent permission photo

    forms.)

    You may also write and attach the required information

    in the parent communication logbooks.

    o (Day 1) Show students a model of the teachers Fun Digital

    Sentences! assignment on the projector, so that students

    will have an idea.

    o (Day 2 & 3) Make sure all parent permission forms for taking

    photos of students are submitted.

    o (Day 2) Review students knowledge of the basic

    parts of a complete sentence (Capitalization,subject, predicate and punctuation).

    Exploration

    The Teacher will:

    o (Day 3) Have students bring in their two-8

    o (Day ) Have students take pictures of their peers individually

    and cooperatively using the digital camera (Teacher

    Guidance).

    Student with Orthopedic Impairment : Teacher or Para-

    educator will take all the pictures for the student. The

    student will choose the items he wants for

    his project.

    o (Day ) Have each student take a picture of his or

    her two-important/meaningful items (Teacher Guidance).

    o (Day ) Have students write down their two items on a

    separate sheet of paper, so they can remember what items

    they brought.

    Student with Orthopedic Impairment: Teacher or Para-

    educator will write down all the sentences for the

    student. The student will create the sentences and

    verbally tell the teacher or Para-educator what to write.o (Day ) Have students write two complete sentences about

    themselves using pencils and paper. The first sentence should

    have them state their full name. The second

    sentence should be their birth date.

    Ex. Sentence 1: My name is Becky Lynn

    Johnson.

    Ex. Sentence 2: My birthday is on July 20,2003.

    o (Day 3) Proofread individual students sentences about

    themselves. Make sure they have used proper capitalization,

    subject, predicate and proper punctuation.

    o (Day 3 or 4) Allow students to begin tracing their final draft of

    complete sentences about themselves with a marker.

    o (Day 4) Next, have students write two complete sentences

    about the two important /meaningful items using pencils and

    paper. The first sentence should state what the item is. The

    second sentence should state why the item is important or

    meaningful to them.

    Example Item 1- sentence 1: This is my soccer

    ball.

    Example Item 1- sentence 2: I love to play soccer

    with my dad!

    Example Item 2 sentence 1: This is amango.

    Example Item 2 sentence 2: Mango is

    my favorite fruit!

    o (Day 4) Proofread individual students sentences about the

    two-important/meaningful items. Make sure they have usedproper capitalization, subject, predicate and proper

    punctuation.

    o (Day 5) Allow students to begin tracing their final draft of

    complete sentences about two important/meaningful items

    with a marker.

    o (Day ) Instruct students to practice reading all their

    sentences with correct pronunciation and expression based

    on punctuation marks.

    o (Day ) When students are dismissed from school, take a

    picture of all the students completed sentences.

    o (Day ) Upload all pictures from the digital camera using the

    USB cable onto the class computer. The pictures should

    consist of student photos, items, and

    sentences.

    o (Day) Log onto the website

    http://www.voicethread.com and begin

    making individual folders for each student

    and upload their respective pictures (student photo, photo of

    2 items and 6 sentences) into their own files on voice thread.

    Organize it well so that the following day, all you have to do is

    open up the students individual files and they can begin

    recording their voices speaking their sentences.

    Generalization

    o (Day 6) Pass out Fun Language Arts worksheets that will keep

    your other students occupied while you are working with eachindividual student at the computer station for recording.

    o (Day ) Log onto http://www.voicethread.com and have the

    website ready to click record for the

    students to begin recording their sentences.

    o (Day ) Have each of the students

    sentences prepared to be handed to them

    when they are called to the computer

    station.

    o (Day ) Call up students individually to begin recording their

    voices speaking their sentences. Make sure to have the

    students file open and ready. The teacher will click the

    record button when the student is ready to record their

    voice. Students will read the sentences that relate to each of

    their photo while being audio recorded by the computer

    microphone.

    Application/Post Assessment

    The teacher will:

    o (Day 7) Present all of the students Fun Digital Sentences

    onto the class computer & projector. Students will be able to

    see their hard work as well as their peers.

    Strongly encourage the class to clap after every

    presentation.

    Also praise all students for their efforts.

    Evaluate and Revise

    Student Performance:

    Students will be evaluated on:

    Their abilities to write complete and coherent sentences (Properly

    using capitalization, subject, predicate and punctuation marks).

    How well they wrote their sentences (Spacing and penmanship).

    How well they pronounce the words spoken in their sentences.

    How well they verbally expressed their sentences according to the

    punctuation marks used.

    At the end of this activity students should be able to:

    Write simple and complete sentences.

    Verbally express sentences according to their punctuation
