Value-added Staffing and Cost Optimization

7

EchoStream reboot

EchoStream’s Value Mapping Analysis identified Odyssey’s value-adding functions (that is, the steps customers are actually willing to pay for), all of which were production focused. EchoStream realigned personnel and resources to support value-adding functions, resulting in significantly more effective spending on revenue generating versus non-revenue generating payroll and expenses.

EchoStream recalibrated spending to focus on revenue generating functions.

Former management consistently spent wasteful amounts on front office costs.

Dramatic improvements in operating margins

8

EchoStream reboot

For the prior 4 years, Odyssey had generated net losses of $1.9 million. EchoStream introduced updated processes and best practices to all areas of the company and rapidly improved operating margins and profitability in 12 months.

The above photos show the old operations. The former company suffered from an overweight expense structure, including inefficient use of space, and holding onto excessive inventory and low value materials.

Cost reductions improve profit capture

9

EchoStream eliminated 13.000 square feet of inefficient and expensive floor space and introduced Lean Manufacturing practices. Projected cost savings: $868,000 over the next 5 years in rent, utilities and insurance.

UNPRODUCTIVE SPACE 13,000 square feet Returned to landlord

The old company warehoused bulky, low-value materials accumulated over 20+ years, paying unnecessary and expensive rent for non-revenue generating floor space. EchoStream eliminated the costly waste.

Scalable platform for profitable growth

10

EchoStream reboot

EchoStream optimized factory floor space to prioritize revenue-generating activities. EchoStream’s Lean Manufacturing implementation enabled the company to produce more vehicles using a smaller footprint.

Reconfiguration includes an open and fluid layout, enabling Odyssey to work on more and larger vehicles simultaneously. Waste has been eliminated.

Administrative Process Improvement

11

EchoStream dramatically modernized the administrative operations of a 35-year-old company, introducing more efficient and less costly financial, sales and marketing practices. Cost Savings: $42,000 over next 5 years in paper, printing, and storage fees.

Old Odyssey maintained traditional and inefficient methods for financial management including working in a non-digital world.

Marketing Turnaround

13

EchoStream reboot

Similar to many industry peers, former management relied on expensive (and often ineffective) trade shows, ineffective print advertising and generic branding. Not surprisingly, under this outdated approach, marketing dollars spent relative to actual revenue generated were extremely expensive.

Marketing Turnaround

14

EchoStream repositioned Odyssey as a premium brand, materially moving away from the “lowest price bidder” approach to sales. This repositioning enabled the company to increase significantly its vehicle conversion gross margins by an additional 4 to 7 percentage points.

With a limited marketing budget, EchoStream positioned Odyssey to compete in today’s Internet 3.0 world, obtaining greater reach and deeper penetration with target customers and markets than would be achieved through traditional trade shows and media outlets. These results were achieved by spending less than $1,500 in online advertising over a two year period.

Modernized Branding for Greater Reach

17

EchoStream performed an extensive review of the industry and recognized the vast majority of manufacturers followed similar and generic rules for their branding. Rather than repeat old-fashioned industry norms, EchoStream successfully positioned Odyssey to distinguish its brand in an Internet 3.0 world of customers.

“This is a valuable show for any end users in the EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement fields to get detailed knowledge of the specialty vehicles that are available to them and at the same time speak to manufacturers who can add to the vehicles’ performance through products that can be added.” - Pelican Products

Importantly, 100% of the show was controlled by the sponsor, ensuring maximum visibility and return on investment. The out-of-pocket cost for the show was only $10,000 – substantially less than many regional trade shows.

As an industry-wide event, the Expo featured numerous presentations and events, including a live demonstration by the Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.
