Bluetooth wireless technology
• Bluetooth facilitates real-time voice and data transmissions, which makes it possible to connect any portable and stationary communication devices.
• Connections are instant and they are maintained even when devices are not within line of sight.
• Instant connection to another Bluetooth radio as soon as it comes into range.
• Supports both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections
• Several piconets can be established and linked together.
• Supports email, two way messaging, LAN and IP access
• Fully functional in noisy environment
• Data are protected by advance error-correction method, encryption and authentication routine for privacy.
• For more information see (http://www.bluetooth.com).

Solution• Bluetooth devices are installed in various locations as beacon which communicate their
physical locations to the desk top and portable devices when activated by a 911 call.
• Two methods are recommended for the installation of Bluetooth beacon: a) LAN wall outlet (for 10 meter “Normal” range of Bluetooth operation) or b) Central (for 100 meter “Optional” range of Bluetooth operation).
• For (a) method, a Bluetooth device is integrated into each wall outlet and powered from the LAN permanently or when devices are plugged into LAN’s wall outlet.
• For (b) method, each device is powered directly with battery back up.
• The beacon is in a standby mode until it detects a nearby Bluetooth device, in which case becomes operational.
• The beacon is programmed to transmit a code representing its physical location or coordinates when activated by 911 call.
• The physical location coordinates transmitted by the beacon will be picked up by the device that initiated the 911 call and transported over IP to the E911 server.
• The E911 server determines the appropriate jurisdiction and provides support for the call server to establish call with the PSAP.

Advantage
• Provides accurate location information (10 meter for wall outlet method).
• Supports all scenarios including VPN and Telecommuter location information.
• Interoperate with Cellular and wireless devices equipped with Bluetooth.
Mo Zonoun - 8
• Not backward compatible
• Requires retrofitting of the sets
• Requires industry adoption to provide 100% coverage for the VPN.
