Soft but deep, simple butmeaningful, thats the story inConnect with English ourlistening assignment in thesecond semester of the first yearin ULIS. Connect with English isa moving and lively story about agirl named Rebecca Casey, astory about believing a dream

    even when times are hard.

Rebecca lives with her father andher younger brother in a smalldepartment in Boston. BecauseRebeccas mother is dead, shehas to take up the responsibilityto take care for the Caseyshousehold, for both her fatherand her brother Kevin. She hasworked in a factory for six years, with her best friend Sandy. Shehas many friends, and herboyfriend is Matt. It seems to bea good life. But deep downinside, Rebecca wants to bebetter. Deep down inside,Rebecca has an intense dream towrite and perform her own music. Therefore, she wants to go tomusic school. To fulfill thisdream, she has to leave Boston, leave out all behind her family, her friends include her bestfriendand her boyfriend, her job. Some

people are happy for her, butsome others are not. Rebeccasboyfriend, Matt, does not wanther to go. Rebeccas fatherdoesnt want her to go, either. Atfirst, he opposes her decisionvehemently N-O. No way. Butin the end, he supports her, andso does Kevin. I really like thisscene, when Kevin saysmoderately Go for it, when

Rebeccas father tells her that heis so sorry, and Mother isnt hereto say all the right things. So Illtry myself. and This is yourhome. If you ever need help, orchange your mind or anything, remember, were here.

Life is a long journey alwaysmoves on, always changes, andthrough all that we can learn agreat deal of new things, meetnew people and even newtrouble, but also can have morefun and be happier. LeavingBoston, Rebecca drives acrosscountries, to San Francisco, where her adventure reallybegins. She starts everythingover again, since its very firstsight. She looks for a job, beginsschool, and has to face difficultchallenges in her new jobs. Andthen, little by little, step by step,Rebeccas life in San Fransiscobegins to come together, sheachieves certain successes in hernew life.

However, this world is full ofsurprises, and fate, sometimes, plays with people. Familysresponsibility brings Rebeccahome, back to Boston. Her fatherhas serious heart problems, anddied. From now on, there is onlyKevin as a member of Rebeccasfamily. From now on, she has totake a heavier responsibility thanever before. Beside her ownfamily crisis, Rebecca has to stepin with another one in Sandyslife. There are some times thatRebecca feels hurt, despair there are some times that it is all

seem like too much for Rebecca.Could she make a miracle?

Soon things begin to change.Rebecca and her brotherdiscover a familys secret. Itbrings new opportunities andmore changes for everyone. Andlike the theme song of the series,Dreamcatcher :

Everybody needs a dreamcatcher Someone to be there when your dreams start to fal l

Everybody needs a dreamcatcher Someone to be there when the bad dreams are all you can see Dreamcatcher, catch me

Bad moments are always gone. There is always someday thatthey somewhat fade away. Abrighter future will definitelycome, if you stick to your dream.Rebecca finally can open thedoor of hope, join into a new lifein which she connects her life inBoston with her life in SanFrancisco, connects the past andthe present. And that, everythingis soon gonna be okay.

Connect with English is notonly a program which helps youlearn English. More than that, it isa story that vibrates your heart, touches to every single corner ofyour soul, and creates wonders.

After studying hard for a long time at high school,I passed the university entrance examination. Finally,I become a student of a famous university, whichmakes me proud of myself.

As a student, I feel satisfied with myself. During thetime in preparation for the midterm test, I lived inhappiness and others compliments, so I ignored mystudying. I stated that if I become a student, I willenjoy my life rather than study hard. My thoughts aswell as my actions caused me to get bad results in thatexam. At first, I didnt care about whether my markwas good or not because I could re-sit the exam if Ifailed. Also, when I am a student, I can break free fromthe adults control of my mark. I still continued enjoying

my life by indulging myself in many meaninglesssprees. But after the spree I didnt find interesting, Iasked myself what the true meaning of life is?

I sat alone in the dark and thought long and hard. Irealized that I had slept on glory for too long. I lost thedirection for my future. The main reason for my failureis that I let my thoughts go astray. I used to think thatpassing the university entrance examination is all.

Now, I am regretful. Anyway, it is better late thannever. I also know that it comes as no surprise thatmany first-year students have the same thoughts asme. Rather than orient ourselves to the future, wehave immersed ourselves in that illusion. We areinterested in meeting our demands for pleasure ratherthan invest time in learning.

I write this writing to share my thoughts as wellas my failure to others. Remember that dontwait until you fail. Live to the full every day.

There are three main reasons for the considerable

increase in the proportion of students getting part-

time jobs. Firstly, for many students, starting to learn

at college means that they have become adults; as a

result, they do not want to depend too much on their

families. Having a job to be devoted to is one way to

prove their adulthood. Moreover, this also shows their

awareness of and consideration for working and

earning money as mature people. The second cause

for this trend is financial problems. It is said that

students are among those who have the highest

time jobs. Besides studying time, they do one or

several jobs to relatively get out of financial

dependence. Quite a few students can earn enough

money not only for their living expenses but also for

savings or even travelling. The third reason is that

they want to gain experiences in working and

professional behaviours. For them, real working

environment is the best way to train and challenge

oneself. These experiences are so valuable in their

studying and future career as well. Overall, students

doing part time jobs is a positive trend that should be

    Question

How to overcome the fear named Reading? I am afraid of letters!

    Answer

Reading is the fear of almost every student, but it is not as scary as youthink. To get rid of that fear, you should begin to read what you like first. It can be English story books like Harry Potter, Witches in OZ, etc, or famous English novels. You can also read English news or fun stories onthe Internet as a way to entertain and gain information. Gradually, whenyour letter-fear reduces, try something more academic like reading textor essays. We hope you all will soon fall in love with Reading.

    Answer:

Here are some suggestions:1. As some of them are boring because of being difficult, so try to

read the textbook before class? That will help you a lot whenlistening to teachers lectures. When you understand somethingclearly, it is easier for you to love it.

    2. Are you sure that all the general subjects are boring? Or it is youwho have never tried to love them?

    3. Go to class early and seat at the first tables.Force yourself to learn. Believe me, youcannot fall asleep when teachers are so close.
