Check in with your goals. We all have our reasons for keeping fit. Channel your

purpose every time you lace up your shoes or roll out your yoga mat. Be ok with

what you can't do, because there is so much you CAN do!

an early morning workout is a great way to stay accountable. And

WHAT'S THE ONE MOVE YOU NEED TO ADD TO YOUR DAILY WORKOUT & WHY?

I love exercises that work the entire body while challenging both the mobility (larger) and stability (smaller) muscles. This makes

each rep more effective at building a balanced, strong physique and burning plenty of calories. One of my favorite exercises is the single leg burpee:

1. Start standing, balancing on the right leg.

2. Begin to squat on the supportive leg and lower your hands to the ground on either side of your foot.

3. Jump the right leg back to a single-leg plank.

4. Keep the left leg hovering off the ground.

5. Jump the right leg forward to land between your hands.

6. Use your core to lift your chest back to standing, without letting the left foot touch the floor.

7. Then add a single leg jump!

SO YOU'VE WORKED WITH SOME OF HOLLYWOOD'S BEST – HOW DO YOU SET OUT IN TAILORING THEIR FITNESS PLANS SO THEY SEE RESULTS.

Starlets, pro athletes, teenagers, mother’s... they all get the same treatment. First, I get to understand their physical needs by learning their daily repetitive activities, what type of

activity they enjoy, and what their weaknesses are. I include Pilates, yoga, resistance, and HIIT into their training so that their body never plateaus and they all become a strong athlete.

WE BELIEVE PROGRESS TAKES TIME (NO QUICK FIXES HERE!). SO WHAT'S YOUR ADVICE FOR MAINTAINING MOMENTUM.

I absolutely agree. I find that my clients feel most successful after achieving a goal related to strength. When focusing on building a strong body, sprinting faster, jumping higher, making it through a class you never thought you could, makes you build a confidence that is more meaningful than fitting into a pair of skinny jeans. Remember: it’s all about enjoying the journey.

WALKING OR RUNNING.. WHAT'S YOUR TAKE?

Both! The most efficient workout combines high intensity drills with periods of active rest. To burn the most calories in the least amount of time, combine sprints with walking.

is important beyond it’s affect on external results. The foods you eat affect every system of the body including your hormones, skin, and brain. Nutrition is the key to longevity, beauty, brain strength and disease prevention.

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST FITNESS MISCONCEPTIONS YOU'VE HEARD?

That pilates is simply “stretching” or an easy workout. Pilates can be one of the most effective (and difficult) workouts when taught and performed correctly. It takes extreme control and engagement of the whole body, which creates full-body strength and flexibility.

MY NUTRITION SECRETS ARE…

I eat a plant based alkaline diet. My diet includes waking up with a glass of hot lemon water, drinking a green juice or smoothie as my first meal, including a variety of raw vegetables in my daily meals, and drinking alkaline water from our Kangen filtration system.

ONE WORD OF ADVICE FOR WOMEN ON THEIR ACTIVE JOURNEY…

Have fun, it’s just fitness! Oh, and wear cute clothing. When I have fun with what I’m wearing, whether it’s an inspirational tank or a bright colored tight, I feel better AND have a stronger workout.

DO YOU EVER FALL OFF THE WAGON? WHAT DO YOU DO?

I do, but I don’t look at it that way. I’m not overly strict with my diet or have “cheat” days. I generally live a healthy lifestyle so I get to enjoy occasional treats when I want. I also like to cook and I make healthy alternatives when I’m having a craving (like my squash pizza). Life and food should be enjoyed, so indulge a little here and there without regret.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT KEEPING YOUR CORE ENGAGED?

Your core (abdominals, obliques, low back, hamstrings and glutes) are the center of the body. They are where all movement should originate from. Keeping your core active protects the body from injury and develops a stronger body because it is working as a whole.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO STRETCH BEFORE AND AFTER A WORKOUT?

A flexible muscle is a strong muscle. When a muscle is tight and has built up scar tissue in the fibers, it cannot contract or relax as much as a malleable muscle. This means all your hard work is producing less results. I like to foam roll the entire body before a workout

(especially the area I’m about to work) because it turns on the neurological signals to make my workouts more effective. I also aim to foam roll after my workout and take 10 minutes to stretch.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE RESULTS?

There are plenty of tests you can do to test muscle mass and body fat, but I know I’m progressing when my training progresses in strength, cardiovascular endurance, or quality of movement.

WHAT'S THE NEXT BIG THING IN FITNESS?

Variety! Mix up your workouts to create a balanced but strong body. Studios are now creating 60-minute classes broken into two different workouts like spinning and yoga, or Pilates and HIIT. You get this variety in my new 3-month fitness program called EVOLUTION20 which includes Pilates, Yoga, HIIT, Strength, Plyometrics, Boxing and Dance! By doing this, the body never plateaus, leading to fast results and zero boredom. Evolution20 is launching this fall and there are plenty of Lorna Jane Active wardrobe changes!

ingredients that thrive in summer and satisfy your craving for crunch!

♦ 2 organic chicken breasts

♦ 1 basket cherry tomatoes,

halved

stems removed

♦ 1 avocado

♦ 1 tbsp. olive oil

♦ 1 tbsp. yogurt (optional)

♦ Juice of 1 lemon

♦ 1 tsp. paprika

♦ 1/2 tsp. salt

♦ 1/2 tsp. pepper

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix the chicken marinade ingredients in a bowl, and add in the chicken. Coat the chicken

thoroughly, cover with cling wrap and place in the fridge to marinade for a minimum of four hours, or overnight. Place

the chicken, along with marinade and 1/2 cup water on a baking tray and cook for approximately 20 minutes. Check to

make sure it has cooked all the way through. Allow to cool before slicing. Meanwhile, chop all of the salad ingredients,

and place into a bowl. Whisk together the dressing ingredients, and drizzle over the salad just before serving.

NOURISHING NOTE: Vermicelli rice noodles are a great addition to this salad!

Summer’s here so beat the heat with these refreshing and healthy recipes.

Preheat the oven to 300°F. Spread the brazil nuts over a lined baking tray, and toast in the oven for 10 mins. Remove

the nuts from the oven and turn the oven temperature up to 350°F. Spread the drained chickpeas over a lined baking

tray. Sprinkle the spices and seasoning over the chickpeas, along with the 2 tsp. coconut oil, and toss to coat evenly.

Bake in the oven for 10-15 mins, or until light golden in color. Meanwhile, separate the leaves of the purple cabbage.

Chop into thick slices and place into a bowl. Add the 1 tbs. coconut oil, salt and pepper to the cabbage, and toss

through. On a hot grill plate sear both sides of the cabbage slices. Return to the bowl, and toss through the spinach

and mint leaves. Add all the dressing ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. When ready to serve, spread the

leafy mix over a serving tray. Sprinkle over the chickpeas and brazil nuts. Drizzle the creamy avocado dressing.

We love this spicy chickpea salad because it’s jam-packed with nutrients,

antioxidants and immune boosters! It’s all about the fundamental ingredients,

which work well together and give you loads of energy. Plus, this salad is

packed with color and our motto is always “the brighter the better”!

SPICY CHICKPEA SALAD WITH CREAMY AVOCADO DRESSINGPREP: 40 minutes

SERVES: 4

PREP: 30 minutes TOTAL TIME: 4 hours 50 minutes (including marinating itime)

Break the widely preconceived ‘rules’ with this raspberry and chia seed salad

and take advantage of berries available this time of year. Soak up the nutrients

from this amazing fruity creation while admiring its mood-lifting brightness!

RASPBERRY AND CHIA SEED SALAD

♦ 3 cups spinach

♦ 1 cucumber,

sliced using a

vegetable peeler

♦ 1 avocado, skin

removed and

sliced

chopped

♦ 2 tbsp. mint,

chopped

♦ 1 tbsp. chia

seeds

♦ 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar

♦ 1 tsp. honey

♦ 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

♦ Salt and pepper, to taste

Add all salad ingredients in a bowl and mix together. In a bowl or jar, whisk or shake all of the dressing

ingredients. Dress the salad just before serving.

Opposites attract when it comes to this dish with a delicious mix of sweet

and spice. Combine the best of both worlds in this summer citrus salad and

experience a taste explosion!

SUMMER CITRUS SALAD

♦ 1 ruby grapefruit

♦ 1 yellow

♦ 2 tbs. almonds

thinly sliced

♦ Pinch of sea salt

♦ 1/3 cup extra-

virgin olive oil

lemon juice

♦ 1 tsp. coarse pink

Himalayan sea

chopped

♦ 4 green zucchini

♦ 1/2 cup fresh

basil, coarsely

chopped

♦ 1/2 cup mint

leaves

♦ A sprinkle

freshly shaved

Parmesan cheese

(optional)

Heat oven to 300°F. Toast almonds in oven for 10

minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Once

cool, roughly chop them. Carefully remove the

peel and rind from the citrus fruit. Thinly slice

the citrus fruit, horizontally. Arrange the fruit

on a serving platter, and top with the chopped

almonds, dates, chives and salt. This salad could

have a dressing, but I believe the juice from the

fruit speaks for itself.

Whisk together oil, lemon juice, salt and crushed red pepper in small bowl to blend. Set dressing aside. Trim ends of

zucchini. Use a vegetable peeler or mandolin to form into thin fettuccini slices. Place zucchini ribbons in a mixing bowl

with the basil and mint leaves. Add dressing and toss to coat. Top with some parmesan cheese (if using) and toss again.

Serve immediately.

Whip up a quick summer salad in half the time with this amazing fresh

zucchini salad.

HOW TO:In a bowl, mix together the coconut cream, chili, coriander and lime zest. Place the fish fillets in the bowl and turn

to coat. Marinate for 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, place the flesh of the avocado, minced garlic, pepper, and lime

juice. Mash well with a fork. Grill the cob of corn on a hot plate with the coconut oil until seared on each side. Remove

corn kernels carefully with a sharp knife. Then, grill fish for 3-4 mins each side, or until browned and cooked through.

Assemble the taco by spreading over the avocado mix, and topping it with the fish, cherry tomatoes, corn kernels, lime

zest and coriander.

such as snapper

chili, finely sliced

♦ 1 clove garlic, minced

♦ 1/2 tsp. pepper

♦ 2 tbsp. coconut oil

♦ 1 cup cherry tomatoes,

halved

♦ 1 ear of corn

♦ Extra coriander and

lime zest, to serve

In a steamer basket over boiling water, steam the brussels sprouts for approx. 3 minutes, or just until slightly

tender. Add some coconut oil to a hot grill, and grill the brussels sprouts (flat face down), for 3-5 minutes, or

until browned. Remove from the grill and place into a bowl. Grill the sliced Spanish onion on the same grill

plate, until softened (you may need to add more coconut oil). Add all ingredients together into a bowl and

mix. In a bowl or jar, whisk or shake all of the dressing ingredients. Let sit for 5 minutes, before removing the

crushed garlic clove. Pour the salad dressing over the salad just before serving.

away from them during the holidays. Get your body back on track with this

♦ Coconut (white) Layer: 2 cups coconut cream, 2 tbsp. honey or

maple syrup, 1/2 cup ice cubes

♦ Strawberry (red) Layer: 1 cup strawberries, stems removed or 1

1/2 cups frozen strawberries, 1/3 cup ice cubes

♦ Orange (yellow) Layer: 2 large oranges, peeled, 1/2 banana, 1/3

cup ice cubes

♦ Kiwi (green) Layer: 1/2 cup spinach, 3 kiwi fruit, peeled, Juice

from 1/2 emon, 1/3 cup ice cubes

Preheat the oven to 150°C. Spread the macadamias in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 10

minutes. Set aside to cool. In a heatproof bowl, add the egg yolks and 2 tablespoons of honey. Place the bowl over a

pot of slowly simmering water (to act as a double-boiler). Constantly whisk the egg yolks and honey for 3-5 minutes,

or until the mix has doubled in size and has turned white and fluffy. Remove the bowl from the pot. Add the rest of the

ingredients to the fluffy yolk and honey mix, whisking all together. If you have an ice cream maker, pour the ice cream

mix into it slowly. Let it churn for 10 minutes or so, or until it has frozen considerably, then drizzle in an extra tablespoon

of honey, creating a swirl effect. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, place the mix into a large container. Place in the

freezer for a minimum of four hours, removing every hour or so to whisk and fork the mixture well. Store any leftover

ice cream in the freezer in a sealed container.

Blend together the ingredients for the coconut layer and divide into 2 or 3 glasses (so that they are around

1/4 full). Place in the freezer for 10 minutes. Repeat for each layer, freezing for at least 10 minutes in between

layers to prevent mixing. Allow the rainbow smoothies to thaw for approx. 10 minutes before serving.

Blend all ingredients (one at a time) in a blender until smooth. Feel free to experiment with your own flavors! In two

clean ice-cube trays, pour a variety of different flavors. Fill some squares to the halfway mark and fill some only 1/3 or

1/4 of the way. Place in the freezer to set for 20 minutes. Keep adding layers, freezing for 20 minutes after adding each

layer, until the ice-cube tray is full. Serve with soda water for an extra burst of flavor or eat as-is on a hot summer's day.
