WATER SYSTEM

INSPIRATION

Reina moved to the Aspen Springs community to live a simple life. To coincide

with this, the basic form of the dwelling is kept simple. The majority of Reinaspaintings are oil. Oil paintings show contrast with touches of lights. The window

slits on the east and west sides allow touches of light into the space. Partitions

in the wall jut out to create shade for some of the windows. The shadows they

cast create a subtle contrast. To have a great connection to the outdoors, thedwelling opens up to the south.

Hydroponics

Because of Reinas love for gardening, a hydroponics space was created so she

could grow plants year-round. This space is located on the second oor is madealmost entirely out of glass, similar to a greenhouse. The hydroponics are adja-

cent to the bed. Some plants sprawl down to the rst oor, covering the wholeoutside bathroom wall. Having the plants in those places make her relaxation

and bathing a type of ritual that connects her to nature.

Systems

The dwelling collects its own rainwater. Part of the water rst goes to the hydro-

ponics space. After going through the plants, the excess water is directed with

the rest of the water to a lter. The ltered water goes into a storage tank where

it is pumped as needed. Besides collectings its own water, the dwelling also pro-

duces its own energy through the use of solar panels. The solar panels are lo-cated on the stable where the roof slants to the south.

VENTILATION

The wind currents are mainly from the west. Some of the window slits o n the

east and west sides are larger to let more air in. This allows for cross-ventilation

through the space. The hydroponics space also has operable windows for thehot air to escape in the summer.
