SPRING BALL - April 20th, 2013 WWW.RIVIERALITTLELEAGUE.ORG
Riviera Travel Team to Live the
“Cooperstown Dream” this Summer
A team consisting of Riviera Little League
Major division players will be heading to
Cooperstown, New York on August 9th to
participate in the Cooperstown Dreams
baseball tournament. This is a national
invitational tournament that hosts travel
teams from all over the United States. The
travel team from Riviera is called the Beach
City Bombers which was formed two years ago.
Coaches are Gregg Hokuf, John Humphrey,
Gary Guagenti, and Kevin Nakai. Players are
Luke Humphrey and Matt Hirano (Rays), Chase
Guagenti (Dodgers), Garrett Cortesi and Dawson Hokuf (Orioles), Ryan Lee and Kyle Nakai
(Braves), Shohei Eguchi and Ryan Murphy (Jays), Truman Thompson (Brewers), and Carey
Arbolida (TABB). Another Riviera travel team, Tsunami, is also planning on going in 2014.
The team will arrive on August 9th and will participate in opening ceremonies and a skills
competition on August 10. Each player on the team will get to compete in one of the
competitions – strongest arm, fastest base runner, around the horn, and the homerun
competition called the “King of Swat”. Players that make it through the preliminary rounds will
get to compete for the championship trophy at night in front of thousands of screaming
players and parents.
After the skills competition, the tournament begins with pool play among 104 teams - each
team will play 2 games per day. On the fourth day, the actual tournament will begin and teams
will be seeded according to their record with a single elimination format. The ball park has 22
fields and games are played all day long. The championship game will be held on Thursday night
which will be preceded by the closing ceremonies and a fireworks display.

Stump the Ump… Learning the Rules of Little League
Situation: In an effort to try something to increase the odds of
getting a hit or walk, a batter steps from one batter’s box to the
other while the pitcher is winding up. The umpire rules “No
Pitch” to the batter.
Is the umpire correct? (Answer on last page)
You don’t save a You don’t save a You don’t save a
pitcher for pitcher for pitcher for
tomorrow. tomorrow. tomorrow.
Tomorrow it may Tomorrow it may Tomorrow it may

Need a quick energy boost!
Get over to the Snack Shack for some candy to
enjoy while your watching
the game!
With so many choices, the
biggest decision you will
have to make all day is ;
Which one to Choose!
Baseball — ”What’s Different?”
The baseball card printer goofed! Only two of the cards below are exactly alike. All of the others
have minor differences. Can you spot the two identical baseball cards?
Cooperstown Dream Cont. from page #1
The team will stay in a military style
barrack located at the Cooperstown
Dreams facility with the coaching staff.
Metal bunk beds, a foot locker, and
community bathrooms are as fancy as it
gets. After the games are over for the
day, there are plenty of fun things to do.
The team will go to the Baseball Hall of
Fame which is located about 5 miles up
the country highway in downtown
Cooperstown. In addition, the players will
be pin trading with other teams during
the baseball “down time”.
A lot of planning and coordination is
needed to make the event happen for the
team. The spot in the tournament was reserved over 18 months ago. Fund raising events will
be announced to help the team offset some of its expenses which includes travel, buying pins,
and also paying for an umpire to travel to the tournament with the team.
If you are able to support the team in any way (no matter how big or small), that would be
greatly appreciated! Here is a list of the team’s fundraising events and dates will be
communicated in the Diamond Dust in the near future.
Fundraising Events:
1) A donation jar will be available at the snack shack window
2) Car wash
3) Garage sale
4) Restaurant events with a portion of the proceeds going to the team
The team is really excited about
participating in the tournament and it will
be a baseball trip of a lifetime – go
Bombers!

Stump the Ump… (Answer)
Dear Riviera Little League Families,
Each week RLL puts out “The Diamond Dust”. The Diamond Dust
is available at the Snack Shack on Saturdays and for download
on the RLL web site in full color.
In order to produce the newsletter each week we need your help.
We are looking for article and picture submissions. Without your
help we can not produce The Diamond Dust.
Please email us pictures of games your watching. It’s a great way
to get YOUR team into The Diamond Dust. Good articles include
great games, team events and other RLL activities. Remember
when writing articles to keep them in the spirit of Riviera Little
League. Articles about games should be positive and include
information about both teams. We may edit submissions for
content and length or reject inappropriate articles.
Please send your submissions, pictures, and suggestions. The
deadline is each week on Wednesday by noon to be included in
that weeks Diamond Dust. Thanks for your time and help!
