House The Georgian house, set within a 300 acre deer park, was once home to the Earls and Countesses of Stamford & Warrington. The largely Edwardian interiors are host to an extensive collection of objects from a family that threw very little away. Perhaps most notable are the paintings, wooden furniture and large silver collection. Home to this family for over 400 years, there are new stories to discover with every visit.

Garden There are 30 acres of garden featuring both historical and modern planting. Historical features include an Elizabethan mount, an eighteenth-century orangery, a bark house and pump house. You enter through the maturing winter garden, one of the largest in Britain. Here, thousands of snowdrops, iris, daffodils, tulips and bluebells bloom from January through to May. Continue to the sweeping lawn area beyond and summer colour can be found in the herbaceous borders and large rose garden. September is great for those who like a quieter visit and the saloon border and veg patches are looking their best. Autumn sees the changing colours of the Acers, the smell of burnt toffee from the Katsura trees and the rose garden continuing to bloom until the first frost.

Deer Park As well as the herd of 150 fallow deer, the park offers great circular walks amongst the tree-lined avenues.

Mill Over 400 years old, the mill is the oldest building on the Dunham Massey estate. Such an old building requires a lot of TLC but we run the mill wheel and working machinery as often as we can. The mill stewards are on hand to tell you about the changing uses for the building over time.

Stables & Motorhouse Explore the stables and motorhouse to hear more about the comings and goings on the estate and the changing modes of transport, from horse and carriage to the motor car.

Celebrating 125 years of the National Trust In 2020 we are celebrating 125 years since the National Trust was founded with a year focussing on how Dunham Massey can positively contribute to people’s health and wellbeing.

Living and Dying Well In the house new collections and archives will be on display exploring themes such as birth, death, medicines, health, pets and pastimes.

Potted history talks Potted history talks in the house take place everyday it is open and will give you the background to the family who lived here and the people who worked here, as well as highlights of the collection.

Celebrating 10 years of the Winter Garden

From January—April we will be celebrating how the Winter Garden has grown over the past 10 years becoming a haven for people and wildlife. Join in the celebrations and take a bit of the garden home with you, including Erythronim ‘Pagoda’, Musicari ‘White Magic’, Iris ‘Harmony’ and ‘Katherine’s Gold’.
