Beastly Creations…….

Here are some examples of Year 7’s

Fantastic beasts. The Task involved the

students selecting a variety of animals,

birds, sea creative or insects and combining

them into a whole new creation. After the

design was finalised they gave it a

botanical name and converted the concept

from a 2 dimensional into a 3 dimensional

ceramic sculpture. This produced some

wonderful and interesting results as you

CAREERS NEWS

Last week all Year 10 students travelled to the Senior Campus to attend a talk by all the Head

Teachers in faculty areas and TAFE courses for 2014 to help students make informed decisions

about subject selections for next year.

During that evening the Senior Campus also hosted a Parent/ Student session for students attending

the Senior Campus in 2014. Students in Year 10 also attended the TAFE Open day to explore the

three TAFE campuses and what they had to offer. I could not have been more proud of the Delroy

Year 10 students, their behaviour under trying circumstances with the poor weather was exemplary.

SRC … In a Nutshell__________________________________________

Since the start of Term 3 we have been busy working on some of the suggestions that were put forward at the end of

Term 2. One of the main suggestions put to the SRC was for more excursions. We are acting upon this and working

toward more excursions in the future.

Firstly, the SRC have discussed and are guiding our participation in the 40 hour Famine. Participants spend 40 hours with-

out something of their choice that they normally use in their daily life, for example, going 40 hours without using furni-

ture or food.

Secondly, the SRC have organised a disco with the theme of ‘go with the glow’. This would be a great opportunity for all

students of Delroy, to attend and have a lot of fun. There are only 200 tickets available at $5 each. So hurry or you will

miss out.

The SRC were successful in obtaining top quality ID cards for all students in order to show proof of identification which

will no doubt improve the security of Delroy (You have no excuse for not getting to class on time!!). We also have Sam

Read, Sarah Toohey, Kate Simpson and Nikki Avila to represent us at the Regional SRC camp at Wambangalang.

Congratulations to these students and we hope you have fun!!

Delroy Vibe, the Anti-Bullying Committee, has been working hard on a number of activities for the school over the recent

weeks and months. Firstly, the radio program we had planned for release late last term/early this term was unable to go

ahead as we encountered some technical difficulties.

We have instead focussed on the planning of Superhero Day later this term, in Week 7. Students are invited to dress up as

their favourite superhero, and are asked to pay a gold coin donation. There will also be a number of activities on the day.

We’ll go into detail about those later, but for now…just know that there will be a lot of cling wrap involved!

Chloe Towers, Ash Cox, Jessi Clayton,

Kate Simpson and Sarah Toohey prepare posters for

Amy Yeo Year 7 and Sharika-Marrie.Howard Year 8

Nathan Hawkes Year 10

HSIE Happenings.... With the start of second semester, all students will have “flipped”.

Year 7 and 10 were studying Geography, and now will be studying History.

Years 8 and 9 were studying History and are now studying Geography. All students have been

given their assessment schedules and course outlines to glue into the front of their books. All

students should also be aware of the assessment tasks due this term from the Assessment

booklets issued on their first day back at school.

Year 9/10 Commerce students are still doing a unit on Travel/Tourism, but will be taking a break from that topic to manage

the finances for the School Magazine. Students will be undertaking clerical tasks, writing letters, and maintaining records

that reflect what happens in the real world in community organisations and the work place. This is an example of the

relevance of Commerce to the real world, providing students with workplace skills and personal development.

College Sport Term Report. Term 2 had a lot going on around the College regarding sport. We had many western area representatives, a State

representative and great success in team CHS sporting competitions.

Athletics

Each of the campuses has had their Athletics Carnivals with good participation levels at all of them. We will now have

over 50 students travelling to the Western Area Carnival in Bathurst on 26th July. Delroy Campus will have 14 students

trying to qualify for the State NSW CHS Athletics to be held in Sydney.

Tennis

The boys college tennis team have finished as Western Area runners up after going down in a closely contested final to

Parkes High 5-3 sets. Well done Sam Wells, Corey Blattman, Lucas Blattman, Dylan Cox and Jarred Buckland who were

part of the team.

The girls’ team made it through to the Western Area semi-finals where they were defeated by West Wyalong.

Rugby League

In U/16 rugby league the South Campus team has won the Tom Kemp Cup after a courageous 22-20 win over Orange

High in the final of the competition played on the last day of Term 2.

The U/14 Buckley Shield College team coached by Mr Webb and Mr Boon are Western Area B champions after strong

wins over Nyngan, Wellington and Gilgandra High schools. They played Forbes in the final and ran away 56-10 winners.

The team will play Sydney North B- Barrenjoey High in Week 2 of Term 3 in the first part of the State final series.

The Open Rugby League is also Western Area B winners, after defeating Condobolin High 48-22 in the final. They will

now take on Balgowlah Boys High (Sydney North) in the final on Thursday 25th July in Dubbo.

Netball

Well done to Pippa Manton and Leah Read who were part of the Western Area CHs team that competed at the State CHS

championships. The team finishing in tenth place overall.

Soccer

Our boys open soccer team have been defeated in the Western Area final by Bathurst High in Bathurst by 3-0. Justin

Pickering, Jarred Buckland and Scott Doolan were part of this team.

Well done to Justin Pickering who was part of the Western Area team that competed at the State CHS championships. The

Western Area team was coached by Mr Groen.

Lawn Bowls

Our Dubbo College triples team has finished 7th in the State after an impressive performance on the Central Coast at North

Haven Bowling Club. The team of Trent, Keeden and Ryan McGuire have been great ambassadors for the Dubbo College.

They defeated Warilla High and Macksville High but were unfortunately defeated by Rutherford High.

Basketball

Our open girls basketball team is through to the State quarter finals after an impressive and hard fought win over North

West area champions Manilla High 29-28. Melita Hampton, Ashleigh Taylor and Brodie Taylor lead the way for the team.

They will travel to Terrigal to take on Wooloware High (Sydney East), Cherrybrook High (Sydney West) and Hunter

Sports High in the finals series. A great effort considering only one of the team is from the Senior campus

Boys Hockey

The team were champions of the Western Region and are currently waiting for information of who they play in their final

16 match. It will be a home match in early term three. The team also had four representatives in the Western Area team

who finished fourth in State CHS championships. They were Jack Eckford (captain), Hunter Medcalf, Dalton Medcalf and

Luke Carmen. From this carnival Jack was selected in the NSW CHS team to compete at the national championships.

Cross Country

The Dubbo College held its annual cross country at the Dubbo racecourse on 5/6/13 with over 300 competitors. Well done

to Harry Vandartel and Matilda Munn (in a photo finish from Savannah Dimmock) who were the overall winners on the

day.

From the Dubbo College Cross Country we had 12 members from Delroy Campus and South Campus travel to Wellington

in terrible weather conditions. Well done to Dennis Allen, Savannah Dimmock, Matilda Munn and Kyle Borwick who

were selected in the Western Area cross country team to compete at the State Carnival at Eastern Creek in Term 3.

John Hill, Rod Newman and Brodie Caton also did well to finish in the top ten of their respective age groups.

Hockey

After three wins the open girl’s hockey team took on Lithgow High in the Western Area B final in the last week of Term.

Unfortunately, the team was defeated 6-0 by a very strong side. Kyla Lake played well for the team.

Rugby Union

The Dubbo College Buchan Shield U/16 Rugby League team defeated Orange High and Parkes High to move through to

the Western Area final. Unfortunately, on the same day the Open Boys and Open Girls team were defeated in the respec-

tive regional days. Well done to Rebecca Dunn, Pippa Manton, Tearne Ryan, Caitlin Christie and Taylor Gray who were

selected in a Western Area high performance squad from the girls divisional day.

The U/16 College boys sevens are through to the coast/country cup final to be played next term at Wyong.

Mathematics Report: Year 10 students are in the process of making a very important decision with their Mathematics at they begin their final

semester of Stage 5 Mathematics. They are currently deciding which Mathematics course they are best suited to study at

the Senior Campus. Their studies at Delroy have been preparing them for the following courses:

Mathematics / Extension Mathematics:

These courses are extremely challenging. They are designed for those students who are performing at an exceptional stand-

ard in the Extension Mathematics class. Many of the concepts currently studied by the Extension Mathematics class are the

essential fundamental skills needed to succeed in these courses.

General Mathematics:

The General Mathematics course, although an easier course than the Mathematics and Extension Mathematics is still a

difficult course in its own right. This course branches off into two separate pathways in the HSC, General Mathematics 1

and General Mathematics 2.

- General Mathematics 2 counts as two units towards a students’ Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

- General Mathematics 1 counts as two units toward a student’s HSC, however it is the least difficult of all

Mathematics courses offered and does not count towards an ATAR.

In order to assist Year 10 for success in their senior studies the Mathematics faculty offers a number of opportunities. We

are available to provide assistance during lunchtimes and recess with homework, to clarify important concepts and provide

extension material. Homework Centre is also available of a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. I urge Year 10 to strongly

consider their options for Year 11, consult with their Mathematics teachers and to utilise the assistance available at Delroy

Campus.

Good luck in your studies.
