Drury Design Honored with Two NKBA 2013 Design Contest Awards
Gail Drury, CMKBDPresident and Studio Director
Congratulations to Brigitte Fabi
and our clients!
We are very proud of Brigitte Fabi,
CMKBD, for receiving not one,
but two, NKBA kitchen and bath
design awards– a first for our firm.
Whenever we win industry awards,
we are reminded that our success
starts with our clients. We thank our
clients for their support and vision
that inspires our entire team’s efforts.
In the NKBA 2013 Design
Competition Winners press release,
President John K. Morgan said, “We
take great pride in announcing to
the public the topnotch kitchen and
bath designers that our industry
has to offer. Hundreds of entries are
received every year, and our designer
members continue to impress.”
In more good news, the American
Institute of Architects’ quarterly
survey shows that home renovations
are outpacing new construction
projects this year. With the housing
recovery, homeowners are revisiting
kitchen and bathroom projects
that were previously put on hold.
To meet this pent-up demand, we
welcome three new members to the
Drury Design team.

The results are in! After judging over 400 kitchen and bath design projects from the U.S. and Canada, a panel of National Kitchen and Bath Association [NKBA] industry experts selected two Drury Design projects as winners. Brigitte Fabi, CMKBD [Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer] won two awards for Drury Design client projects. A luxurious, natural spa in Homer Glen, IL won the Best Before and After Bath Award at the competition. An Arts and Crafts kitchen in a Chicago loft inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh won the Third Place Award in the large kitchen design category, (see page 2). Since 1998, Drury Design has received over 50 NKBA kitchen and bath design awards. Founded by Gail Drury, CMKBD in 1987, Drury Design was also recently recognized as one of Trends Top 50 American design studios.
The winning bathroom design features a soothing, neutral color palette using only natural materials including slate tiles, a “rug” of pebbles, walnut cabinetry, a teak ceiling, and Caesarstone counters; all contribute to the calming environment. The private shower is the perfect place to recharge or unwind with six body jets, a stationary showerhead, large rain head, hand-held shower, and an integrated steam unit. An elegant soaking tub frames the view from a prominent picture window.

Transitional Kitchen Design in Chicago Loft Pays Homage to Arts and Crafts Pioneer Charles Rennie Mackintosh
From top to bottom, this kitchen reflects the homeowners’ love of the Arts and Crafts era. Inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, an Arts & Crafts pioneer often referenced as the European counterpart to Frank Lloyd Wright, it was important to be as historically accurate as possible while incorporating all of the mod-ern conveniences needed today.
Classic Motawi tiles are the back drop for this Rennie MacIntosh inspired design. Up-to-date appliances and warm colors are the open invitation to cook in this open-concept kitchen. From the fully integrated refrigera-tor to the right of the oven, to the microwave drawer in the island, this space offers all the amenities for a world-class meal.

Facing page: Space in this narrow bathroom has been maximized by the removal of two dividing walls. Interior designer Tina Muller introduced glass walls to the shower and specified a dark wood vanity with a Carrara marble top.

Remodeling projects often require plenty of vision and lateral thinking, especially when the space is constrained.
This was precisely the case for this master bathroom, says interior designer Tina Muller of Drury Design.
“The bathroom needed to be completely remodeled but there was literally nowhere to go,” she says. “We could only use the existing space, which

was long and narrow. The room was made smaller by a solid wall between the tub and shower, and a half wall that concealed the toilet.”
Muller says the decor was also long past its use-by date, and included a carpeted floor.
“The owner wanted a much more modern, clean-lined master bathroom that would be very serene, like a spa. It needed to be soft, and
not too hard-edged, with an elegant look.”
To open up the space, the two dividing walls were removed, and the shower walls replaced with glass.
“This completely opened up the bathroom and made it seem a lot larger,” says Muller. “Because we removed the half wall, the new toilet was turned 90° so it now backs up to the main wall, which is a lot more
