Because of the kindness and caring of a number of district sta!ers, $750 was raised October 19th as they participated in “Denim

Day/Go Pink Day.Each participant _ from all five Newark

Central School District schools, the Bus Garage and the District O#ce _ donated $5 for the privilege of wearing jeans and or something pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

$e fundraiser was organized again this year by Lisa Spencer who teaches English as a new language at Kelley School and Newark Middle School, Kerri Levine, Kelley School Assistant Principal and Alisha Creagar, who teaches third grade at Kelley.

Interestingly, Creagar is one of the co-founders of the Canandaigua-based “Embrace Your Sisters” organization that fills a unique need for breast cancer patients in Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates counties by providing short-term emergency financial assistance to both female and male patients to help defray the costs of mounting co-pays and medical expenses and other necessary expenses. Levine said monies raised from the event last year were divided between EYS and a colleague who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Spencer, who has spearheaded the fundraiser at Kelley School for many years and who noted Superintendent Matt Cook asked that the fundraiser be opened up last year to all school district sta!, said she is grateful monies are being used to assist breast cancer patients in the area.

“We wanted monies raised to be used locally and it is really nice to put a face _Alisha’s _with the organization the money is being donated to,’’ Spencer said. Creager, who gratefully acknowledged that EYS is receiving funds again this year from the NCSD fundraiser said every penny donated annually to the organization is given to breast cancer patients.
