Philosophy Still Under Discussion The written philosophy of the College of Allied Health Science
necessary guide for the leaders in the department to face continu
well as unexpected problems requiring decisions that are consisten
straight forward. The formulation and growth of philosophy that will
the department of nursing will bring the Dean, level chairs, c
instructors, staff and students to believe something or to ac
something together.
In a sense, a philosophy is as much like a diamond-it is three dimen
with multitude of facets reflects one aspect of the total and repre
something to which one can commit oneself and be able to live wi
by day and decision to decision.
When the members of the has a good understanding of the philosop
the department, hidden uncertainties regarding the value of one s
and actions are greatly reduced and thus the decision making proc
enhanced. Thus formulation of the philosophy of the College of
Health Sciences is imperative.

Goals andObjectives
Objectives:
1. To inculcate the ethics of a health care professional.
2. To put quality service to mankind as the priority in the profession.
3. To develop among the students precision, accuracy and professionalhonesty
There are three specific objectives of the CAHS. However the obje
do not indicate the short term target and the measurable results.
The absence of the CAHS written goals does not provide the organ
with the blueprint that determines the course of action and a
preparing the future changes in the college.
This implies that there is a need for a written clearly defined goals
review of the present objectives of the CAHS. Without Clearly D
goals and objectives, the organization will have trouble coordi
activities and forecasting future events.
According to Baine and Griffin (2007), organizational goals serv
basic functions; they provide guidance and direction, facilitate pla
motivate and inspire employees and help organizations evaluat
control performance.

Structure of the organization
The College of Allied Health Sciences organizational is structured using a hierarchy. In this
organizational hierarchy, the Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences has the most power and
authority over the next levels who are composed of the Heads of Midwifery, Physical Therapy,
Medical Technology and Nursing.
Specifically, the Department Head of Nursing is directly linked to the different level chairs. This
model represents the idea that the member of the higher rankings are responsible for members
who are in the lower positions.
In the apex of the organization the dean of CAHS is directly responsible to the Vice President of
Academic Affair. The VPAA is directly responsible to the executive vice president.
The bold line represents the administrative/supervisory functions while the broken line represents
the support functions.
(hierarchical structure on next page)
The organizational structure of the college of A llied Health Sciences
adopted hierarchical design is very important for an effective and ef
operation. The organizational structure clarifies expectations to whabe done. Divides work to avoid duplication and wasted effort, confli
misuse of resources, provide for logical flow of work activities; est
communication channels; provide coordinating mechanisms; focus
efforts in accomplishing objectives and enhance planning and coordi
functions(Robbins and Carter, 2000). The CAHS organizational str
shows the six key elements of an organizational structure which in
work specialization, chain of command, span of control, centralizatio
decentralization and formalization.
The Importance of a carefully designed organizational structure i
necessary for the smooth operation of the College of Allied
Sciences.
