BABSON ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE College Credits: 4
During the Summer Study for High School Students
program, you will have the chance to develop your skills
as a passionate, self-motivated entrepreneur within a
close-knit, driven community in the Babson Entrepreneurial
Development Experience. This 4-credit college course
will help you to identify opportunities and act on them,
develop a real entrepreneurial venture, and learn what
it takes to make it happen.
In the classroom, you’ll develop your problem-solving
skills while working in a hands-on, team environment.
This course provides the opportunity to explore and
approach social, economic, and environmental problems
in the context of new ventures as solutions. You will learn
how to grow your commercial or social venture, and gain
access to the tools and resources needed for your business.
Innovative business leaders and real-world examples
will inspire you through lectures, site visits, and classroom
discussions. You and your team will use this insight to
develop solutions and pitch your action plans. You will
interact with corporate and nonprofit leaders as you
share your entrepreneurial plans. Past corporate
visitors include Campbell Soup Company, Verizon
Wireless, Target Corporation, Best Buy, and Bain Capital.
The Babson mindset of Entrepreneurial Thought and
Action® will guide your understanding of the opportunities
available and help make your ideas a reality.

STUDENTS IN THIS PROGRAM JOIN THEIR PEERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY ON A NEW VENTURE.
PAST NEW VENTURES INCLUDE:
» NuPatch: A transdermal patch designed to deliver
nutrients to athletes
» Armadio: An online interactive website that
allows people to upload items in their wardrobe and
arrange them in the form of a virtual wardrobe that
can be shared with others.
» Natra: Provides a unique farming experience where
guests can tour the farm, pick their own organic produce,
and help prepare it alongside professional chefs.
» Surveys Co.: A service that collects customers’
shopping, recreation, and other specific information,
as well as pays customers to take surveys for
local businesses.
» Glare is an LED bracelet with smart technology to
increase safety for people who train at night.
» Project Monster: Recycling bins in the form of
friendly monster characters that are designed to
engage children in recycling.
» Discovery App: A smartphone application that will
enable teenagers to know more about other countries,
places, and people in a stimulating and engaging manner.
» Share Plate: A social media app that allows restaurant
patrons to generate funds for charities by sharing images
of their meals from partnering restaurants.
» SonicPel is a rubber bracelet with built-in mini speakers
that generate a high frequency sound to repel mosquitoes.
The sound is not audible by the human ear. The objective
in creating this product is to solve the problem of
mosquito bites without harming the ecosystem.
» Mundra Dance Imaging: Photography services
specialized in capturing dance recitals and
performances for dancers and their families.

Live in a vibrant, busy community at Babson in the
summer. From using state-of-the-art facilities such as the
Webster Athletic Center and the Reynolds Campus Center
to attending on-campus events sponsored by clubs and
organizations—you’ll enjoy your time out of the classroom
as much as in the classroom. You will live in on-campus
residence halls with top-notch Babson student leaders.
During the weekends, exciting off-campus trips will be
offered, from community service projects to cultural visits
to sporting games, and you also may explore the nation’s
greatest college city—Boston.
» Accommodations / Residence halls are each furnished
with Internet access, a bed, dresser, desk, and chair. Babson
student leaders serve as Summer Study mentors, reside
in the halls with you, and provide social and educational
programming throughout each week.
» Meals / Trim Dining Hall is the award-winning dining
facility for the Babson community. This all-you-can-eat,
buffet-style dining hall is open every day for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner for all summer students.
» Staff / You will be accompanied by full-time staff
members and undergraduate mentors at a 10:1 student-
to-staff ratio. Students will be inspired outside of the
classroom by staff members’ and mentors’ leadership
and unique backgrounds and experiences.
» Facilities / Access to the Reynolds Campus Center,
Horn Library, Webster Athletic Center, outdoor facilities,
and many other student-gathering places on campus is
available to you while you are on campus.

Guest lecturers include entrepreneurs, corporate
executives, small venture, legal, and venture capital
executives. Workshops including art classes, cooking
demonstrations, SAT prep, and college search strategies
are offered. Corporate leaders have visited from Levi
Jeans, Campbell Soup Company, and Best Buy.

ELIZABETH GOLDBERG / teaches
intermediate and advanced courses in
international literatures and human
rights, Babson’s interdisciplinary arts
and humanities foundation course,
and a summer course in Stellenbosch,
South Africa. Goldberg was voted
Professor of the Year by the graduating classes of 2007,
2008, and 2009, and has received many awards,
including the Nan Langowitz Women Who Make a
Difference Award and the dean’s Award for Excellence
in Teaching. Goldberg has published articles and edited
collections in the areas of multicultural literature,
gender studies, and human rights. She serves on the
editorial board of the international journal Teaching in
Higher Education.
SINAN ERZURUMLU / researches and
teaches technology management,
supply chain management,
environmental management, and
sustainability to both undergraduate
and graduate students. Erzurumlu
earned his PhD in supply chain and
operations management from McCombs School of
Business at the University of Texas at Austin. His recent
work focuses on the life cycle dynamics for portfolios
with durable goods and consumables to evaluate the
cost and the effects of a product in terms of economics
and environmental impacts.
CHERYL KISER / is the executive
director of The Lewis Institute and The
Babson Social Innovation Lab. She is
responsible for leading a critical aspect
of the growth strategy for Babson by
promoting broad support for Babson’s
work in integrating social innovation
and social relevance into its curriculum and cocurricular
activities. She is a recognized leader in corporate social
responsibility and social innovation. Before coming to
Babson, Kiser was the managing director of the Boston
College Center for Corporate Citizenship. For more than
12 years, she played a central role in creating the largest
research center of its kind in the U.S., and spearheaded
a national initiative to engage leading businesses to take
a collaborative approach to working on education issues.
Kiser also is the co-creator of Food Sol, an action tank
at Babson’s Social Innovation Lab dedicated to using
entrepreneurship to redesign the food system. She is
the author of Creating Social Value: A Guide for Leaders and
Change Makers, 2014.
