The Prayer Warriors Ministry in our parish is a way to reach out to a larger community of people who pray daily for all of us. To contact “The Prayer Warriors” all you have to do is send an email to the email address below. Only first names are used and your email is kept private. The answer to your prayers may very well be the St. Mark Prayer Warriors who are committed to praying for all those who ask for prayers. Barbara Schenk [email protected]

"She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home." (From today's Gospel)

Challenge Ques on: Mary was very much, a woman in a crisis pregnancy. How does Joseph's fidelity to Mary serve as a model for compassion to women in crisis pregnancies today? What public policies could I support, that would enable women to choose life?

Basic Catholicism with Fr. Dan will not meet Wed. Dec. 25, 2019 or Wed. Jan. 1, 2020. Classes will resume Wed. Jan. 8, 2020.

Restricted bequest – This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into an endowment, a specific use, or renovation fund.)

• A bequest can be made in a number of ways: A.) Specific dollar amount B.) Specific assets such as securities, real estate or tangible property.

• Retirement account assets consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.

• A residuary bequest – St. Mark Parish receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met.

Fr. Dan’s FYI - Fourth Sunday of Advent December 22, 2019

The Virgin will be with child and give birth to a Son.

He will be called Emmanuel, God-with-us -Isaiah

On this fourth Sunday of Advent, the Gospel features St. Joseph and Our Lady as the central characters. Mary not only gives flesh to the Son of God, she gives Him her heart. St. Joseph, becomes the protector and the guardian of the Word Incarnate. We are called as Catholic Christians to honor and venerate both the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph for their role in our salvation. Our Lady has been called the First Disciple of Our Lord. God thought so much of her that He asked her to cooperate in His plan for our salvation. Imagine she was a young girl, probably no more than 14 years of age. At the time she was engaged to Joseph. With her consent, her entire life changed in the twinkling of an eye. She would become the Mother of the Savior and at the foot of the cross, the Mother of us all! With Our Lady’s consent to become the Mother of Jesus, Joseph’s life changed as well. We know from reading the Scriptures that Joseph is quite worried with Mary’s news that she is pregnant. He even considers divorcing her quietly to save her honor and life. He receives a vision of an angel in a dream assuring him that what Mary has told him is the truth. All hesitation evaporates and the two are united as husband and wife. I have tremendous awe and veneration for both Our Lady and St. Joseph. Imagine what it must have been like raising Jesus. Like any parent, I’m sure they were thrilled when He took His first steps, started talking, getting his first tooth. But all the more so, knowing that within their home, within their arms was Incarnate Son of God. On behalf of Fathers Richard, Germain, Joe, Alfredo, Ray, Deacons Mark, Lee, Antonio and Sr. Mary Joan may you have a Blessed and Merry Christmas. Brothers and sisters, while we have time, let us do good. Fr. Dan

Saint Mark’s Council of Catholic Women wants to express their

sincere thanks to St. Mark’s parish and each of the parishioners who made Christmas special for a disadvantaged youngster in our Back to Basics Outreach Program!

We want everyone to know how much we appreciate your commitment to bringing back your gifts in a timely manner. Our return rate this year was higher than ever! This truly facilitated the transfer of the gifts to our two elementary schools.

Their staff was extremely appreciative and sends their thanks also to those who were unable to shop but instead donated funds towards the purchase of gifts. “Kudos” for an act of kindness and a job well done!
