STORYLINE Joe saw a basketball tournament advertisement along the street while walking

back home in the evening. He got interested and decided to join the competition with his group of friends. After they decided to join the tournament, they learn more skills and strategy by observing some professional players through television. After observing, Joe and his teammates went to practice the skills that they’ve learnt. They did not managed to claim the gold medal, his teammates blamed him for the cause of losing the game because of his physical size is small and weak.

After competing in the tournament, Joe’s teammates did not praised him for his contribution towards the team. From there, he was very disappointed because his individual contribution and effort cannot be identified. Joe’s brother comfort Joe and tell him not to give up. He have faith in Joe that he can accomplish anything just like everyone else. He decided to guide through intensive training.

CONCEPT 1: INTRINSIC MOTIVATION

Definition: Taking a certain action for the sake of enjoyment, it will lead us to be

more fully engaged, greater curiosity and pleasure.

CONCEPT 2: SOCIAL LEARNING PERSPECTIVE

Definition: This perspective argues that individuals learns observing the behaviours of

others. Individuals tend to observe modelled behaviours and, in turn behave in a similar manner.

After they decided to join the tournament, they learn more skills and strategy by observing some professional players through television. After observing, Joe and his teammates went to practice the skills that they’ve learnt.

CONCEPT 3: STEREOTYPE ( PREJUDICE)

Definition: Stereotype is a learned attitude toward

a group of people. Prejudice is a negative learned attitude

towards a group of people.

CONCEPT 4: SOCIAL LOAFINGDefinition: Social loafing occurs when persons are

performing a task as part of a group and individual effort cannot be identified.

CONCEPT 5: SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY

Definition: Self-fulfilling prophecy is a predictions

that directly or indirectly cause itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behaviour.
