STACK: STUDENT MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2016Stack Awards is the world’s only awards scheme created exclusively for independent magazines.
They recently shortlisted and commended Metazine, a risograph printed collaborative zine created by students of BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion, as a “beautifully considered magazine about magazines”. Presented from a student perspective, the zine documents and illustrates Raw Print, an industry-focused series of lectures and events in Nottingham specialising in all things publication and print, and open to students and staff. Visit www.raw-print.com for more info.
L'ORÉAL BRANDSTORM: GLOBAL BRANDING COMPETITION 2017The background: Global brand L'Oréal promote their annual event as ‘an innovation competition like no other’. Over the past 25 years, 95,000 students from 58 countries have participated in the experience and each year 15,000 students take up the challenge.
The challenge: Using your intelligence, know-how and creativity, we want you to be part of innovation at L’Oréal, for real. Develop a campaign to disrupt men’s grooming with life-changing innovation.
After getting through the UK selection stages, in April 2017 Tara McGovern, Olivia Gascoine and Chloe Newton, of BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion, presented their response to this brief and were declared overall UK winners at the high profile London final. Their win takes them to Paris later this year where they will compete against the rest of the world!
" The" experience of participating in the L'ORÉAL Brandstorm competition has been invaluable; meeting industry experts, improving our presentation skills and working as a team to reach the world finals in Paris has been so exciting, and has really prepared me for working life."Tara McGovern, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion

FRED PERRY: SUBCULTURE
A Student Project And Guest Lecture By Dj Don Letts And Actress Vicky McclureThe School of Art & Design recently hosted a guest lecture with renowned videographer, film-maker and DJ, Don Letts, and critically acclaimed actress, Vicky McClure.
Chaired by James Daly, Managing Director of De Facto Design, the agency responsible for creating the Fred Perry Subculture website, Don and Vicky discussed their relationships with subcultures in an insightful two hour guest lecture.
Don explored the skinhead movement, arguably Britain’s first multicultural movement, and how it occupied an important crossroads in British youth and style. Vicky spoke in depth about her involvement in Shane Meadows' iconic work This Is England, and the significant impact it had on her as an actress and an individual.
