■ Nebivolol may be more beneficial than atenololfor systemic hypertension, according to the results of arandomised crossover study. A total of 16 previouslyuntreated patients with hypertension received atenolol50 mg/day, nebivolol 5 mg/day and placebo, for5 weeks each. There was no significant differencebetween atenolol and nebivolol in the reduction inbrachial BP, aortic BP or pulse wave velocity. However, aortic pulse pressure was significantly lowerwith nebivolol than with atenolol. Furthermore, nebivolol was associated with a significantly smallerreduction in heart rate and a significantly smallerincrease in augmentation index than atenolol.Dhakam Z, et al.
