    Park Oaks School in Thousand Oaks may be closedConejo Valley Unified School District officials are considering closing another elementary school ParkOaks, which has about 250 students, most of them from low-income families.

    School district may sell land to city of Thousand OaksConejo Valley Unified School District officials are considering selling land they own in Newbury Park tothe city of Thousand Oaks. The 10 acres is near a shopping center, restaurants and hotel.

    March means layoff plans at SLO County schoolsIts almost mid-March, which means school boards around San Luis Obispo County are grappling withhow many teachers, counselors and other employees to lay off in anticipation of another year of budgetcuts. About 55 initial layoff notices will be distributed to full-time teachers and other credentialedemployees and managers around the county by the legal deadline of March 15.

    Lopez: Take teacher layoff battle to SacramentoIf you're in a lather about teachers getting bounced, you might consider spending less time ripping beleaguered school districts and more timehounding state legislators. Gov. Jerry Brown wants to fill the state's budget hole with roughly $12 billion in cuts and $12 billion in revenue madepossible by a five-year extension of several existing tax increases. But Brown can't find the needed four Republican legislators willing to letCalifornians vote on his plan.
