Look for software that makes it easy to configure your logger and analyze data
• Intuitive point-and-click configuration
• Multi-logger graphing and analysis
• Ability to format, annotate and save graphs
Consider ease of data integration
• Merging data from multiple loggers
• Data export – for use in other programs or databases
• Data import – for bringing in related data

Software
![Page 6: Choosing a conductivity salinity logger part 2 of 2](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022051820/5538af06550346bf308b4827/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Look for software that provides the conversion methods & accuracy you need
• Salinity calculated with Practical Salinity Scale 1978 (PSS-78) (2 to 42 ppt range)
• Specific conductance – there are several temperature compensation methods: – Linear compensation (%/C)
– Freshwater compensation EN27888
– Non-linear seawater compensation
• Ability to use field calibration readings, preferably from both the start and end of deployment to adjust for fouling.

Think beyond the initial purchase price! • Look for a logger that will last many years
– Housing material – Delrin or Titanium for saltwater – stainless steel is good for freshwater, but corrodes in saltwater
– Non-contact sensors last longer than electrodes that are in contact with the water
• Regular sensor cleaning extends the logger’s life – look for one that is easy to clean
• Replacement batteries and sensor extends the life of your logger
• Using a waterproof shuttle avoids risking your laptop in the field
• Software that saves you time can reduce your cost:
– Easy logger configuration and data analysis
– Software that can compensate for fouling means you don’t have to go into the field as often
