Attendance Monitoring and Reporting Flow Chart

Students who are absent for �ve consecutive days receive a phone call fromShafston to ensure their safety and well-being.

Students whose attendance falls below 85% are posted a Warning Letter.

Students whose attendance falls below 80% are posted a Letter of Intent to Report.

Student has 20+3 working days to access the appeals process from the date on the letter.

20 working days elapses with No Response from the student.

Student accesses the Appeals Processvia the Shafston Reception counter.

Students are responsible for maintaining an overall attendance of 80% and

updating their Address with Shafston. These are conditions

of all Student Visas.

STUDENT REPORTED to DIAC via PRISMS. Shafston Attendance Counsellor hears the

student’s appeal, collects documentary evidenceand makes a decision on the appeal in accordance

with Standard 11.9 of the National Code. 2007 Student receives a letter from

Shafston notifying that they havebeen reported to DIAC.

DIAC may make contact with the student and request

information in regards to the attendance breach.

UNSUCCESSFUL APPEALCounsellor informs student in writing of the unsuccessful appeal and reminds student of

their right to an external appeals process.

SUCCESSFUL APPEALCounsellor informs studentin writing of the successfulappeal. The Student mustnow, until the end of the

course, maintain an overallattendance of 70% or higher

to avoid being reported. Student doesnot reply to

DIAC’s requestfor information

DIAC mayimplement a

discretionary visacancellation

Student claimsto DIAC thatthey did notreceive the

letter and/orwere not

informed oftheir rights by

Shafston.

Student acceptsresponsibility and

gives DIACreasons and any

documentaryevidence tosupport the

absences.

DIAC takes a statementfrom the student and passes

it to DEEWR

DEEWR requests Shafston to supply evidence supporting the decision to

report. Shafston complies.

DIAC may requestShafston to write a

letter of support for the student

and give anyadditional

compliant-:The case willbe returned

to DIAC.

DEEWR decidesShafston was

non-compliant-:Shafston issued
