stick o fire* news*Bahamian colloquialism: years ago in the Out Islands, (i.e. theother islands of the Bahamian archipelago other than the capital,Nassau, which are now referred to as the Family Islands) keepingyour fire lit was crucial especially for cooking purposes. Whensomeones fire went out they would go over to their neighbor tocatch a stick of fire in order to rekindle theirs. This is a symboltherefore of the Bahamian community spirit. Each month we will besharing how quickly the CN fire is catching on!
Pam Burnside was recently interviewed by LukeFanin via skype for the upcoming Santa Fe: A
Creative Tourism Journey Blog... so watch this
space..This weeks blog states:
In the fall of 2008, Santa Fe hosted the UNESCOCreative Cities Networks International Confer-ence on Creative Tourism. This gathering of Net-work representatives, tourism professionals, crea-tive entrepreneurs, and artists provided a forumfor identifying economic opportunities through thearts, as well as developing creative tourism pro-grams designed to capitalize on these opportuni-ties. The conference contributed directly to the
publication of the book Creative Tourism: A GlobalConversation, which has become an invaluableresource guide to communities seeking to emulatethe Creative Cities model. It also led directly to thecreation of this very forum, Santa Fe CreativeTourism. And in 2012, Santa Fe officially becamea Sister City of fellow Network city (and craft andfolk art representative) Icheon, South Korea,
pledging to foster mutual economic developmentand cultural exchange.
Next week, we will bring you the story of whatwe hope will be a new Sister City to Santa FeNassau, the Bahamas, where Pam Burnsideleads the efforts of Creative Nassau in thehopes of making her city the newest memberof the Creative Cities Network.
[Jackson and Pam attended the 2008 Santa Fe Inter-
national Conference referenced above as the sole rep-
resentatives of The Bahamas.]
