Gru]ec has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Hos- pitals and Dispensaries to replace Dr. Gerstenberger, resigned. The new New York ]~Iospital--Cornell University Medical Center is expected to open for the reception of patients on September 1 and for the new school year later in the month. The Pediatric Hospital of that center is under the direction of Dr. Oscar M. Sehtoss who serves also as professor of Pediatrics in the University Medical School. Further details of this opening will be given later. Dr. Schloss has been pediatric Director of tile Nursery and Child's Itospitat for some time. Dr. Louis C. Schroeder has been nmde Director of the Pediatric Service at the Nursery an4 Child's Hospital in New York City to succeed Dr. Oscar /V[. Schloss who becomes Professor of Pediatrics at the new New York Hospital--Cornell University Medical Center. His appointment is effective from September 1, 1932. On June 4, 1932, Professor Arthur Schlossmann died at the age of 6~. Profes- sor Sehlossmann was director of the Children's Clinic of the Medizinische Akademie in Dusseldorf wh~re he had been for the last sixteen years. Professor Sehlossmann is best known to American pediatricians not only for his outstanding work in pedi- atrics, but because he was joint author with Professor von Pfaundler of the Ha~d- book o.f Pediatrics. Professor Schlossmann might be looked upon as one of the pioneers of modern pediatrics slnec he became interested in this branch of medicine when it was poorly defined as a specialty and when the problem of saving the lives of children was paramount. His interest in the social side of pediatrics gave ]tim a very broad ~ield of interest and many of the results of his efforts in this ~ield of pediatrics remain outstanding in his country and as examoles to others.
