As Marita Morgan so deftly phrased it, we are a large class with many people who have lots of interesting things to say. In order to give everyone an opportunity to voice their comments, we are incorporating into our weekly lessons the discussion guidelines that Marita utilized. As a reminder to us all, here are the guidelines: (1) Only one comment per person per class. (2) Economy of words. (3). Speak loudly so everyone has an opportunity to hear you. Thank you



for adhering to these discussion guidelines so that we will all have an opportunity to participate in the discussions and benefit from hearing each other.

The paintings that David Cooley generously donated are still up for auction/bid. Ed Payton is working on how to have them up loaded to an art website for potential bidding to people outside of our circles. IF you know how to do this or have insight into the art world, please contact Ed Payton as he would be interested in talking to you about this subject.

SOCIALS:Hockey, anyone? For those who signed up and bought tickets, the Social Committee has organized a group of Maranatha folks to go to the Tulsa Oilers vs. Utah Grizzlies hockey game this Saturday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m. Have a great time!

MISSIONS:



St. Luke’s Redemption Dinner On January 31st, a group from the class served dinner for St. Luke’s Redemption Dinner/Meeting, organized by Glenna Arnott and Jim Embrey. Thank you to all for representing Maranatha in this great service.

Sunday Night Live Talent Show & Chili Cook-Off – At the same date/time as the St. Luke’s mission project, our class participated with great success in this all church event to support missions. Margaret Been was our Maranatha Chili Chef and took 3rd Place, so we are very proud of her! Margaret Been, Susie Butterworth & Ed Payton worked together to create a Maranatha basket of donated items which was a huge hit and was used as one of the live



auction items. Additionally, Kendall Carpenter and Rob Reck participated in the talent show portion of the evening, showcasing their great talents. We appreciate these class members stepping up to represent us all to raise money for missions!

Barton/Clinton/Gordey Chili Supper – 22nd February: Our Chili Supper this year is being led by the inimitable Jim Embrey and the ever patient Julee Embrey so prepare to salute, follow orders and have a great time making chili for the church as we serve our congregation.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:



APPRECIATION PARTY AND DATE CHANGE – We learned recently that the church staff is planning a big party on Friday, February 26, 2016, to honor our own Shari Goodwin as she retires from her many years of service as Director of Communications for Boston Avenue. David Wiggs has informed us that all of Maranatha will be invited to the party! To make sure that we can all support and celebrate our friend Shari’s accomplishments, we are moving the Maranatha Social previously planned for that night (Private Planetarium Viewing and Los Cabos Dinner) to Friday, March 4th. Please put both events on your calendar and plan to celebrate!



ADVENT SPEAKERS SOUGHT – It is always special to have our Advent lessons taught by members of our own class, and is something to which our class looks forward all year. If you would be willing to teach one Sunday during Advent (December 11 or December 18), please contact Michelle Place to discuss scheduling.
